Which one is Better Sponge Filter or Power Filter

  • So this is the Defference in Sponge and Power Filter No hate to Power Filter it's also work same, when I was washing it soo many dirt coming out from it.
    Disadvantages of Power Filter
(×) Powerhead in the Power filter could be dangerous if not handled correctly. If the powerhead is running above water level, then it could heat up & break.
    (✓)Advantages of Power Filter
Power filters are very efficient in cleaning because they have high quality sponges & some Power filters can hold bio media too. Sponges hold heaps of good bacteria, & more useful bacteria grow on the bio media. So, internal filters can be used as secondary filters if your main filter is not performing well in a high stocked aquarium.
    (×)Disadvantages of Sponge Filter
Sponge filters have no means to include chemical media, which means they can only provide mechanical and biological filtration.
    (✓) Advantage of Sponge Filter
provide mechanical filtration, and can lead to a better population of beneficial bacteria in your aquarium and therefore a more balanced aquatic ecosystem

Power filter is for cleaning big particles in tank. Sponge filter is to clear micro particles. So both of them has their own purpose. It better to use both

Both filters are not designed to filter mud. Sponge filter section looks cleaner because it didn't disturbed water column much and allows the mud to settle down whereas power filter creates turbulence in water so it looks dirtier.

sponge filter is primarily good for low bio load environment and for breeding since it doesn't suck in fish, but power filter can handle higher bio load from just the higher flow rate. mechanical filtration is mainly dependent on the filtration media itself

Both has their unique ways , but i prefer spongefilter works faster + easier to handle and clean but also good for fry they dont get sucked in.

This is not too accurate. Since the power filter created much more flow causing the dirt to keep floating. Sponge filter created low flow causing the dirt to sink to the bottom of tank. In term of cleaning, i found that the power filter is better than the sponge filter because the volume flow rate of water passed through the filter is way more than the sponge filter. However there are more parameters to be considered in deciding which filter is the best for the tank. The habitants, number of them, size of tank, frequencies of maintenance and so on.

It's not about which is powerfull.
It's about which types of fish you have...
    Big fish = Power filter
    Small fish = sponge filter
Because small fish can't suffer in pressure water.

Pro tip if u use a sponge filter use a good amount of rocks so that the waste is collected underneath . Becoz sponge filter cannot clean the tsnk like powerhead and top filters. Using rocks will make the tank look cleaner...

I feel any filter that is submerged under water adds to more ammonia in the water since all the collected waste eventually starts to rott and give away ammonia..
Over head and canister filters are the best choice

@@letsgrow2 the media with in the canister filter is also submerged. In fact there is a better chance for food to get trapped. A sponge filter is so much easier to clean and maintain. I'm sorry but your comment doesn't make a lot of sense.

    • @letsgrow2
      @letsgrow2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I totally agree with you on this but the matter of fact is there you have large numbers of bio media in canister filters allowing the beneficial bacteria to break down the ammonia at large scale, same is not possible with submerged filters due to the space required.
      Hope it clears my point.
Please add if you have anything else in mind so that the best results come out 🙏🏻

  • @tanveerahmedmb
    @tanveerahmedmb ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think the power head does a better job. The water thrown by the power filter disturbs the water surface which in turn creates oxygen.
Sponge filter is not at all a good filter. It cant support loads of media too. Which is very bad. The bacteria only can live in the sponge. So don't play with people's thought and confuse them.
Guys power filter was continuously disturbing the water obviously dust cannot settle. The sponge filter hardly creates turbulence so dust will obviously settle. But sponge filter is only good for arowana, betta or small tetras. If you have cichlids and gouramis only go for hang on back filter, top filter or powerfilter.
I have had fish, since 17 years now and in my case I would always reject a sponge filter...

Power filter, might be offer stonger suction through medias.
If powerhead required put submerged, it heats your water in tank, a little. A lots can be happened in nanotank.
Sponge foam filter + air pump not so strong suction as powerhead + sponge foam filter. But it do not emmits heat as powerhead.
For people ”fight” with high temperature water, can be problems
Myself live in tropical area. My water temperature 27°c -31°c.
I want my water temperature around 26°c
I will not put powerhead in my nano tank.
