    Hi. We've been traveling around Oz for 2 years now in our 2016 Ranger, no mods, towing a 2.7t semi offroad van. I always have it in 'S' sport mode and never had a problem. We've been on dirt roads and hot weather and never missed a beat. In 2 years We've done around 50k kilometers.
    A great car all round.

      Hi guys! Thanks for saying g'day 😁 Great to hear she's done you well! Is there a reason you drive in sport mode other than perhaps wanting to use gears 😁

    • @c-est-la-vie
      @c-est-la-vie 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @gettingaroundaus When you shift across to sport mode and leave it, it still in auto but if you can also use it as a manual by shifting the gear leaver up or down. I keep it in the sport auto mode. The trans doesn't go into overdrive. Doesn't affect the fuel economy 16l/100k.

      @gettingaroundaus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@c-est-la-vie interesting, appreciate your feedback. People have only mentioned to me its about managing the trans load but always thought you shouldn't have to work around a weakness.
      In my experience extra fuel consumption had always been a factor but I'm curious to experiment. Cheers 🍻

    Awesome install vid Deezel!! 👍
    My thoughts are that you should also fit a monitor to accurately track your temps with a ECU gauge (connected via your OBD port) such as a Scangauge (noting that the latest Scangauge 3 is pretty darn pricey!!) or an Ultragauge (about half the price in comparison). Maybe you could reach out to one of those companies to see if they can sling you one of their products for a review. That way, you could see what your actual temps are under various transmission load conditions and compare that data with a given optimum temperature range.
    Also as you’d be aware, apart from being able to monitor your transmission temps, the gauges give you the ability to accurately monitor a whole range of ECU outputs which is very neat.
    That said however, your MDC Robson wouldn’t be all that heavy compared with for example a 20+ foot caravan you often see being towed by a 4cylinder diesel but even so, as well as having gear like transmission oil coolers fitted, I think it’s just as important to then also be able to accurately monitor the results. It would have been really awesome if you had such a gauge fitted before fitment of the cooler to allow a ‘before and after’ temp comparison.
    Just my 2c Deezel … I didn’t mean to rant 🤘

      @gettingaroundaus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep totally agree with you regarding the before and after. Would have been nice to do the comparison but didn't have the time or money to make it happen.
      Have definitely however been thinking about getting a scan gauge to still see what the temps looks like.
      I think it would still be interesting to know if because I'm not getting alarms for eg. Does that still mean it's actually keeping the temps within what many would consider or is it just under the high but not overs range.
      Will have to go back through the mighty mountain range heading back so there's a chance for more action 😂

      @rich9903 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@gettingaroundaus I reckon that if folks purely rely on an alarm to indicate excessive transmission temps, damage to the transmission and degradation of the oil is already well underway. My thoughts would be to ideally be forewarned well ahead of time so that appropriate user action can be immediately taken to minimise any potential damaging effect that may occur i.e. prevention being better than cure. A bit like having tyre pressure monitors to prevent tyre blowouts etc. and possibly the tragedy of a vehicle accident.
      The other thing is that without a means of accurately monitoring transmission temps, those elevated temps could possibly be hovering be just under the alarm trigger point over several months/years of driving thereby accelerated wear and tear occurring undetected. That said, I guess that's why it's vital to ensure that scheduled vehicle servicings are kept up-to-date 👍

    How does the Ranger tow compared to the Pajero? As a Pajero owner who tows a camper, I always get thoughts of upgrading but just can't commit as the Pajero has never let me down.

    • @gettingaroundaus
      @gettingaroundaus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah mate, I'm the same regarding the Pajero.
      Can't fault the Pajero either myself but both are really strong to be honest.
      There is some differing characteristics however. I do intend to do a comparison video as I've been asked by mate also and it's a really good question as I personally now regard both highly.
      I can say the Pajero does a have better fuel consumption though.
