@@johnfalstaff2270 To absolutnie normalne.

By the way: in 1936 you couldn't see any nazi flags or symbols in Gdansk - it was Free City under Polish and German control, with independent government and Hitler influence was not as strong at that time.

@@grzegorzp.5734 Learn history (of the all 20 years of interwar period) and read something about the structure of the ruling of the Free City. Gdańsk was ruled by an independent government with Polish representatives of local Poles, and with the official representation of the Polish state (keeping an eye on the law adherence), with Polish post office, policemen and military unit. The same was on the German side. Coexistence of Polish indigenous population and of Germans (multiple descendants of Germans who flowed there in 19th century) was difficult. Of course, since 1933 nazi influence was stronger and stronger, with a lot of cases of breaking international law by Germans in 1938 and 1939,.

One of my grandparents had a Polish last name (he appeared to be ethnically and genetically Polish) but he had German citizenship and was married to a German woman who lived in Gdansk (Danzig). He lived there with his two German speaking children up until over 90% of the city was destroyed and all of the remaining original inhabitants were either killed or expelled by the Communists in March 1945. The 1929 census that was published in "Ergebnisse der Volks- und Berufszählung vom 1. November 1923 in der Freien Stadt Danzig" shows that there were 328,025 Germans living there and 7,896 Kashubian, Polish and Masurian people living there, whereas the 1948 census shows the population as being 99% ethnic Polish (many of these new Polish arrivals were victims of the U.S.S.R. who were forcefully expelled from their homes in what is now the country of Belarus, and Belarus used to be called "Poland" before the USSR invaded and took it over in 1939). So if this video is in fact Gdansk, in Communist Poland, in 1956, as it purports to be, then why is there a little blonde smiling German kid wearing Bavarian Lederhosen pants at the right side of the screen 3 minutes and 6 seconds in to the video standing next to an old chimney sweep who has a Hitler / Chaplin type moustache? A second German boy (also wearing Bavarian Lederhosen pants) shows up at 3:11 and then 3 minutes and 14 seconds in you see a woman who is dressed the way German women would dress in the early 1940's. And all of the SS runes and swastika flags that we see 3 minutes and 25 seconds of the way in to the video, well, that is kind of unusual for 1950's Communist Poland, but maybe the Dalai Lama and some Tibetan Buddhist monks were visiting and they plastered Hindu / Buddhist religious markings all over the town to make it more festive. These Buddhist monks must have also had some kind of Germanophilic inclinations as they put up a sign 3 minutes and 38 seconds in that says "Danzig, bleibt Deutsch", which roughly translates as "Danzig, is still German." All and all this is actually not all that unusual for video that was filmed in Communist Poland in 1956 because Oceania is not, and has never been, at war with Eurasia. Oceania is, and always has been, at war with Eastasia. The people out in the streets then become embarrassed about carrying the anti-Eurasia signs and blame Emmanuel Goldstein’s agents for sabotaging them. Nevertheless, they exhibit full-fledged hatred for Eastasia.

This is the first time I have seen a reference to a credible source. Trying to google it. I suspect the book might be available in Pomeranian digital library, am I right ?

Zepter00 is right, it is after all historically a Polish city founded by a Polish leader and occupied by polish people before the Prussians took it and annexed it. Poles were expelled and then come back after world war I. The Nazis expelled the Poles again and Hitler declared the city truly German.
After the war, the surviving poles returned and the Allied leaders including Stalin declaring it a Polish city at Potsdam conference. Germans were either fled or expelling from the city to Germany. Very few Germans remains in the city to this day.
