Oh my God ,you make me feel at home .I used to love your music all the time when I was in Ghana. I listened to the music today at work. Thank you very much. I am going to buy the gramophone very soon so I'll be playing it.
Patrick 'Steel' Kwame (PSK) Ampadu alias *Nana Kwame Ampadu* was born on 31 March 1945 to Opanyin *Kwame Ampadu* and *Mercy Afua Ntiriwaa*, both of Obo-Kwahu, Eastern Region.
In 1963, *Nana Ampadu* formed the African Brothers Band (renamed African Brothers International Band in 1973). The name of the band, according to *Nana Ampadu,* was in support of Kwame Nkrumah’s call for African unity.
Nana Ampadu explained how the African Brothers Band was formed:
"In 1963, I Nana Kwame Ampadu, then called *Patrick Kwame Ampadu* was approached by a gentleman by the name *Kwasi Boahene*, a resident of Nima who told me he was enthused by my prowess at my band rehearsals at Adabraka-Accra. He suggested to me his in-law had some musical instruments, though not full set and added we could set up a band. His persuasion won my confidence so I gave him a consent but explained I have to discuss with my elder brother *Rover Kofi Amo* who I stayed with at Adabraka"
"Before this event, Rover and I had already purchased conga drums, an acoustic guitar, and a locally made set of set of drums. Met with Kwasi Boahene and his In-law and we came to a consensus to combine the musical instruments and started recruiting bandsmen. Already we had *Yaw Owusu,* who was my cousin, *P.K Ampadu, Rover Kofi Amo, Kwasi Boahene, Kwame Anim,Yaw Asante and K. Ofori*"
"When it came to the group name, we asked each member to suggest a name, K.Ofori suggested *THE AFRICAN BROTHERS BAND* and we all agreed as a way to show support for Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, first president of Ghana’s fight for Africa Unity"
"In September 1963 at Park Cinema, *The African Brothers Band* was inaugurated with the following band's men.
1. P.K Ampadu
2. Rover Amo Ampadu
3. Kwasi Boahene
4. Yaw Owusu
5. Kwame Anim
6. Yaw Asante
7. Nana Nyarko
8. Snr Eddie Donkor
It took the band three good years before we were able to win confidence of *PHILIPS WEST AFRICAN LTD* who recorded our maiden 33/3 single plate: *Agyanka Dabere, Suminaso Ntonko*"
The African Brothers emerged as superstars in 1967, with their first hit *"Ebi Tie Ye."* (Some are well seated). They were part of the *new highlife sound* that fused rock and reggae bits into a tight, multiple guitar front line, accenting lyricist and leader Nana Ampadu's exhaustive, metaphor-driven sermons drawn from *stories of the animal kingdom.*
His name was changed from *PSK Ampadu* to *Nana Kwame Ampadu I* when in 1972 he won the National highlife competition held at Rex Cinema Hall, Accra to be crowned the

Kwasi Boahene is Eddie Donkor
Welldone
Kwasi Boahene is the great rhythm guitarist, Senior Eddie Donkor.
I like your insight into Nana 's beginning but it was Senior Eddie Donkor who was enthused by Nana's earlier recordings convinced Nana to form a band.
Senior Eddie Donkor was n't kwasi Boahen but rather Kwasi Donkor
Hmm my dad is the one singing the high tuner the late snr Eddie Donkor may their soul rest in perfect peace of God
YEA! Abena you went hiding somewhere after the release of your single song. What happened to your band? It was perceived that your group was made of siblings, if so where are the rest?
You had a great dad
Hi Abena Nyanteh, I loved your father Senior Eddie Donkor so much. The king of rhythm guitar.
Aawww😭😭😭😭
I love them both. But senior Eddie Donkor is my number 1❤

Nana Kwame Ampadu is really musical composer and legend in Ghana and Africa in general
Excactly, his was really a music maker
There is an organic cohesiveneness to this album that ties all the songs to make the album a classic!
This is a real music
Great Nana Ampadu
This is the old time musicians with good appearance, well centred suits, not today's young musicians appears to be rascals and comedians.
And today's musicians you don't understand their music.
I remember the days of our father's and their a advice
Today's so-called musicians are all gangsters with nothing good to offer.
All i can i say is May you Live long Nana
Thanks for this. |Left my album back in Ghana and been missing it badly. For me this is one the best albums of all time. Frikkin timeless and dem dere guitars!!!!!!!!!
For me, these guitars kind of remind me of the Stone Roses (they are from Manchester and were popular when I was a teenager in the 90s)
My best is the track that seem to be singing, "Sambro Ma'me o!" Ampadu's best to we Igbos of Biafraland is "Kofi Nkrabia."
I so agree.
Abusua nye asafo: the vocal is very great
Old memories
I'm reminded back school days in Abetifi kwahu (p u c)when boys gathered for some wine with these tunes behind
You shall always be missed
We will never see happiness times like this again. RIP Nana we will forever miss you.

Boss question, I know they were in Nigeria those days especially at Aba City, but how did you guys understood the language. Was it the performance that pleased the people?
Sure that year

I am a Ghanaian myself. Your question was due to the beat. All the players of the instrumentals depend on the kongalist. He has to be energetic, that is why those days there use to several kongalist during live bands. Even in studios, during a particular music, there will be 2 to 3 drummers.
What a legend..great African son
Why no new music we the Eastern Nigeria love Ghana music
This is freaking spectacular
This is the most favourite of all the albums of Nana Ampedu. In blessed memory of the late Yaw Ankomah of Yahmowes band.He was. Like. a. father. to me

Nana songs is just too good. The song is too good that some lost control even in steering while driving therefore his songs also dangerously too good for over indulgence. Too good a genius. RIP my Legend!

I love this. Some bass tunes for me to learn. Especially the second tune! In some ways, the echoey tone sounds just like a lot of music did in the late 60s, but in a way it also sounds like it was done a bit later.
The bass line on " mmobrowa" is the first song I learned to play.
