Clearly, you’ve never experienced hydroplaning. I was driving under the speed limit on a stretch of highway where I was the only car. It wasn’t even raining-it had stopped about 20 minutes earlier-when I hit standing water and was thrown off the road into a ditch. Thankfully, I was okay, but the experience left me with a lingering anxiety about driving on wet roads. It can happen anywhere at anytime. And NO you don’t have to be speeding.
@ true hydroplaning can happen at lower speeds however the chances of you hydroplaning at higher speeds are very likely. Thankfully no I have never hydroplaned before I am usually very cautious when driving in raining and snowy weather.
When road conditions are bad, anyone can hydroplane. It doesn’t mean this family was speeding. In fact, there have been three other similar wrecks at the same location. For you to make a blanket statement about something you admittedly know nothing about is not only unnecessary but also ignorant.

The drain could be grated. Putting a metal grate over it also can prevent larger debris from entering the drain and causing dam like flooding.
I’m afraid they may have to wait until the rain clears up before they can find the child’s body. It’s so sad.

There have been three wrecks in the same area from the same cause. Yes, barriers are needed. There is clearly a problem here.
