@@RobL350 if the person plays a letter on a double or triple letter square, they get extra points for that letter accordingly. If that forms two words, the double or triple letter value is given twice, once for each word it's used in. If the word covers a double or triple word space, then the point value of the word is doubled or tripled. Again, if it forms two words, the point value for each word is doubled or tripled. The strategy is to try to put bigger point value letters on the double/triple letter squares and to try to place words on the double/triple word scores to maximize your points.
The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (OSPD) can be found in bookstores, it's a compilation of words from 5 dictionaries. In tournaments, they're using the TWL (Tournament Word List), which is the OSPD plus profanity and racial slur words.

GILT is 16, and UH is 10, totaling 28. UH is on a double word score
