Hahah, no problem, it happens! Way too many characters. Non related, but that shirt color really suits you, you look specially beautiful in this video.
@Persephone Diggen Others I know the name of the characters too and don't usually mix them up. But Aberforth and Regulus are characters with very ponctual contributions to the series that don't appear much. It's a fair mistake. It's alright. (also, doesn't Harry Potter have, like, more than 500 characters with names? It's a lot for a middle grade/ya series)
I'm just gonna say it: McGonnagal was the only person who was awesome in the beginning and stayed awesome all throughout the books. Everybody else had fucked up royal sometime in the series but not McGonnagal. She truly is the greatest Gryffindor.
Made even better by this scene🤓 . . . . . . 'I've always wanted to use that spell!' (Seriously, this was possibly the only addition to the whole 'Battle of Hogwarts' scene in the movie that I liked.)
Yes molly is great consistently but I also found her consistently frustrating for her typical overbearing parent archetype. She didnt even want to let ron drop out of hogwarts when it was clearly corrupted and people were dying around them. She didnt want harry to be in the order thinking it was for his own benefit but really all of the information involved harry and he deserved to know, there are many more examples..
Number 9 Yeah I agree. Although I think that the reason that Molly is so overbearing is because she loves people so deeply. And like we saw with the boggart her greatest fear is something bad happening to her family. I guess I just relate to her because I tend to worry quite a bit too. And I always saw that she didn’t want Ron to drop out because people would target the Weasleys who were already ’blood traitors’. But I think it’s great that her character has flaws because that makes her feel like a real person. I just admire her instant reaction to love Harry and Hermione so much. Now that I’ve thought about it, the only things I disliked most about Molly was how she was so cold to Hermione about Rita Skeeter’s article and the way that she treats Fleur in the half blood prince. But still she’s one of my favorite characters!
Log line for the book: High school dropout steals identities, robs a bank, and destroys priceless heirlooms in quest to murder the man who killed his parents.
Umbridge was horrible before she got the locket. I dont recall exactly when mundungus took the locket but it was after Sirius died, at the end of book 5, so that means she was evil before getting the locket
I don't like Voldemort's death scene in the movie. I loved that in the book, everyone was watching and there to see it, and in the end, Voldemort was just a regular corpse. All his attempts at immortality failed, and he was a regular human corpse like anyone else. In the movies, Harry is the only one who sees Voldemort die, and Voldemort turns into confetti so Harry doesn't even have his dead body to prove to everyone else that Voldemort's really dead this time.
If I lived in the movies universe, I wouldn’t believe that he was dead. I mean... he was meant to be dead the first time. Him having a corpse was important to prove he was just a person and was also definitely dead.
MC YT Right, he should maintain his physical form to prove that he’s truly dead. The reason Thanos snap in the movie works and wasn’t just cool visually because the victim of the snap truly get deleted from existence in the comic so the way the Russos did it is cool and also faithful to source material.
Yes! In a way both Dudley and Draco grow up with shitty parents who have a bad view of the world and as they grow up and start thinking for themselves, they question what their parents told them, and it's a big step for them! 😊
I always thought the reason Luna’s new wand worked was because it was made for her. I’m guessing that Ollivander knows Luna’s personality, and from there, chose a wand wood and core.
Yeah, wand materials are supposed to compliment a person's personality, which is why wizards go through many wands while they're buying one because a wand that likes a hotheaded noble person wouldn't pick some laid back guy. Ollivander had the advantage of being together with Luna for a good amount of time, and profiling her traits very well and that probably made it far easier for him to custom-make a wand with the exact materials which would suit her. This isn't possible as a shopkeeper because Ollivander cannot know some random person's deep nature, which is why he has pre-made wands for those scenarios.
Agreed. Also I would think a brand new wand wouldn’t be accustomed to the previous wizard’s habits and personality, so even if it wasn’t 100% perfect from the start maybe it would more easily mold to the users abilities
I remember having so much fun in that scene at the end where Percy comes back and him and Fred are fighting death eaters and Percy sees the minister and is like 'Did I mention I'm resigning?' But of course, the next second Fred is dying and it was just so heartbreaking and I especially felt so sad for Percy because he'd just come back to his family and to see his brother die so soon after his return just ahhh, I cried so much at that. Lupin's and Tonks' deaths were also so heartbreaking, they'd just had Teddy and I really wanted a happy ending for them.
You missed one of the most important scenes the burial scene of Dobby, the free house- elf . One of the most emotional scenes in the book. The fact Harry chooses to bury him using hands and not by magic convinced griphook to be an accomplice in gringotts bank robbery. Also the whole Mr Ollivander , Grindelwald and Voldemort , the wand chooses the wizard thing.
I wish you had mentioned poor Hedwig's death. To me that was a punch in the guts and the sign that all bets where off Harry's childhood such as it was was over and anyone could die in this book. In my opinion JK should have written 'yup shits about to get real y'all' right after it. Also the scene in Malfoy Manor where Draco had the chance to turn Harry over to Voldemort but wouldn't confirm it was him was major character development for him in my eyes.
His character development was ruined though, because he tried to capture Harry and bring him to Voldemort in the final battle. Everyone keep forgetting about that.
@@netagenis7235 yeah but when crabbe set the room of requirement and used Arvada Kedvra draco was really shocked and scared showing he wasn’t supporting that level of action.
@@chiseledhalo1305 ofc he wasn't because he didn't wanna die from the fire lmao. And the only reason he didn't want them to kill him was because Voldemort wanted to kill him himself, so they had to bring Harry to him alive so he could kill him... So it's still just as bad.
I felt like Hedwig's death was gratuitous and unearned, along with many of the deaths in "DEATHly Hallows." Like, they're some of the most memorable characters in the series and Merphy couldn't even remember who they were. That's not putting her on blast, I can't even remember them! I love J.K., but deaths in earlier books felt so much more meaningful (Cedric, Dumbledore, Sirius) than the ones in this one. I did, however (for all you haters), think Severus' and Harry's deaths were earned in this one, but the rest of them INCLUDING DOBBY felt over the top.
When Voldemort dies in the movie, I really think they do it wrong. He disintegrates into black mist, while in the book, I believe it's described as "His body hit the floor with a mundane thud." Rowling did it that way because she wanted to emphasize the fact that Voldemort is human and capable of dying, not some infallible spirit-man thing.
totally agree. also, in the movie, harry is the only one to see voldemort die, so he basically would have to go back to everyone else, tell them voldemort is dead, and he doesn't even have a corpse to prove it to them
Also, in the book voldy dies with no difference than a normal person. All his life he tried to be great and different from others but in death he was as mundane as the next person.
I wish they could have done it differently as well, but I think it makes some sense in the rather bombastic cinematic language of the Harry Potter films (she said, admittedly knowing very little about the language of film as a concept) because we've seen Voldemort withering away with the destruction of each Horcrux. The movies also pretty much did away with the concept of Voldemort as a man who became something "greater" because he was utterly terrified of death and was looking to outrun it, so with the characterization of film!Voldy as more of a run-of-the-mill big bad, a mundane death wouldn't hit the same. That said, making confetti out of Bellatrix as well? Bull. Crap.
I just love the way Voldemort dies. We were waiting for this scene for 7 books, no big explosion or something like that could have been fitting. This big, scary, evil person just silently dies like everyone else. It's so simple, and I love it
I know this was two years ago, but I just wanna add to this. He dies pathetically too. All his attempts at immortality failed, he's being undermined in front of everyone by Harry, and in the end, he dies like anyone else would; a cold corpse on the floor. There's nothing more poetic than a villain with dreams of granduer not only being brought down to Earth, but being slammed into the ground too.
About Pettigrew - when Harry says something in lines of "you owe me your life", Peter hesitates a bit into attacking them or not. And then the hand that Voldemort gave to him chokes him. Peter is a turncloak and probably Voldy put some spell on it for Peter to die if he didn't act accordingly.
Yeah, Voldemort even told Wormtail not to waver in his loyalty ever again near the end of Goblet of Fire. It totally feels like an in-character thing for him to do.
I'm honestly wondering where that arm came from. Priori Incantantem establishes that it was "killed" (as we see the people murdered, in reverse order, from Voldy's wand - never mind James and Lily's death order being swapped around, I think?). How _do_ you kill an arm? What the heck did he do, exactly?
@@Woodenfan I think that priori incatatem (~prior incantantions) doesn't necessarily show what you killed, but just all your recent spells or their victims...really, it's probably just not very well defined :D
When Kreacher rallies the house elves, he does it for Regulus. Even though he may have grown to be much nicer to Harry, it was still Regulus that he wanted to stand for, with whom his ultimate loyalties lie, the only one he probably loved. One of the many reasons why I love Regulus's character so much💜😭
If I remember he was saying fight for my master the protector of house elves(harry) and fight in the name of brave regulus.... So he fought for both... I may be wrong but I think I am right
@@karthikayanedathodathu1337 Possible ......... But, I don't think Kreacher ever felt that passionately about Harry..... He was nicer to him, sure. But Dobby was the one with the 'put him up on a pedestal' type of feelings. Just my opinion. But still, yeah,.... Very possible.
The first time I read the book, I thought he was talking about Regulus when he said defender of house elves. But the last time I read it (the only time where I've read the whole book, not just snippets), I read it as Kreacher talking about Harry. Like how Dobby was defending Harry in HBP, I think Kreacher realized how Harry was. I just can't see it as him saying that Regulus was a defender of house elves when Regulus made him go on a mission for Voldemort.
@@willigagbob8243 He says “Fight! Fight! Fight for my Master, defender of house-elves! Fight the Dark Lord, in the name of brave Regulus! Fight!” So when he says 'my master', it's not clear which master. Harry is his master now, and Kreacher did become fond of him in this book, so could be saying that he's the defender of house elves
yeah its just awful, yet another forced-dysfunctional relationship bit (bc it "sells" right?). Might not have been a bad read if he and Albus actually got on REALLY well (Harry got to be the father he never had and always wanted) and that Albus' struggles were mainly at/with school, yet he still bonds well with Scorpius and Harry encourages that (vs the hack/overplayed "DADDY SAYS NO!" nonsense) ...
Harry trusting Neville was also a plot device to point out Neville's importance as the Chosen One himself, though an unbranded one. Remember that, at least in the time period in which the books take place, Neville is the only other person to get the Sword of Gryffindor out of the Sorting Hat, which is something only a true Gryffindor can do.
Yeah as I remember in that moment he reflects that Neville has been through as much as him because of it and that Neville could be trusted because they both never had a choice in the matter.
Neville was a good friend. Harry was leaving three people behind that new what needed to be done just like Dumbledore. That’s it. Neville was simply a good soldier following the orders of his General. That’s all he is. The Prophecy specifically states that the ONE would be marked by the Dark Lord. Neville was not.
Nevielle also shown extraordinary strength. The Sword appears to a true Griffyindor. He defied Voldemort when Voldemort won the battle. He refused to bend the knee. That's why he got the sword and not because he was the second chosen one
"I don't want all my eggs in one basket, and especially a basket that spends so much time dangling on the arm of Lord Voldemort." "ON YOUR ORDERS." It wasn't all-caps in the book but I just thought I'd point that out.
19:42 I think the reason Dumbledore told them not to tell anyone else is because he didn't want other people to possibly give that information to Voldemort or have the information brought out of them via torture. Basically, I think his reasoning was that the fewer people know about it, the smaller the chance that Voldemort will find out that people know about his Horcruxes and thus increase the magical protection around them.
I'm not surprised by Harry and the saying Voldemort's name thing because back in book 1 they made such a big deal of him being one of the few people not afraid to say his name. It felt very much like a pride thing. As if to say, "I wasn't afraid to say it then, I'm not afraid to say it now."
And that was the point of the curse on his name. "Like what you think you're so tough and brave to say my name? Well come face me (or my minions)." An ego checker from Voldemort.
Also earlier in DH Ron says Harry should give Voldemort some respect, again trying to stop him from saying his name. I can easily imagine that making Harry want to say it even more in that moment.
I actually want to know, since I have been under this impression. Yeah, there's those three lines of dialogue: "Vol--" "HARRY, NO!" "--demort." Doesn't the long hyphens indicate that Harry started to say Voldemort's name without pause, with Ron and Hermione screaming not to do it as he was finishing saying the name out of custom and excitement?
I agree thats what was intended. However, I believe it is written incorrectly. Instaed of attempting to write out the vocalizations of all three characters at the same time, I think the narration should have come in and described what happened properly. The way it is, does indeed make it seem like Harry might have maliciously finished the whole name, for whatever reason, even though we know that doesn't make sense.
my issue is that saying the name was the biggest mistake he could have made and others paid for it with torture and thier lives and harry didnt even apologise to hermoine
Deathly Hallows is a perfect analogy for the final year of school. They were given a capstone assignment (find and destroy 4 horcruxes and kill Voldemort) , they stuff around getting nothing down all year and then get 80% of the assignment done (destroy 3 horcruxes and kill Voldemort) literally in the last 24 hours.
Actually, Harry didn't overcome the whole entrusting people thing by telling Neville about Nagini. He didn't even give any reasoning behind it to Neville, except for that it was very important. Harry's whole thought process was that he reasoned Dumbledore thinking that there should be three people sharing the secret to make sure it didn't die with someone, and since he was walking to his death, he should make sure he passes on his burden to another in order to maintain Dumbledore's pattern and plan.
Still, coming to that conclusion required him to trust someone, and he chose Neville in specific because Neville was the other possible chosen one and had been nearly as affected by it as Harry himself.
@@willigagbob8243 I mean that might be, but the text doesn't even hint at that, so I would classify that more as head canon. Here's what's in the text: Harry had pulled off the Cloak: The idea had come to him out of nowhere, born out of a desire to make absolutely sure. --- You know Voldemort's snake. Neville? He's got a huge snake... Calls it Nagini..." "I've heard, yeah... What about it?" "It's got to be killed. Ron and Hermione know that, but just in case they--" The awfulness of that possibility smothered him for a moment, made it impossible to keep talking. But he pulled himself together again: This was crucial, he must be like Dumbledore, keep a cool head, make sure there were backups, others to carry on. Dumbledore had died knowing that three people still knew about the Horcruxes; now Neville would take Harry's place. There would still be three in the secret. "Just in case they're-- busy. And you get the chance--" "Kill the snake?" "Kill the snake," Harry repeated.
This is the point I was going to make. Totally Bering conclusion drawn for me. Harry even says someone to carry it on. Give them enough information to do the task not enough to understand why and have their own ideas. True dumbledore thinking
I believe Umbridge was being affected by the horcrux. It was amplifying all her worst qualities, just as it did to Ron. That's why she was so blood-thirst and reveling in rounding up the muggle born. Yes, that is who she always was in reality, but with the horcrux she became openly and happily viscous.
but didn’t umbridge get the locket after mundungus sold it to her after he raided the black’s house when sirius dies? she was already a piece of shit long before that
25:19 -- Looking on the bright side, if Harry hadn't said LV's name and got taken to Malfoy Manor: -- They would never have rescued Luna, Griphook, and Ollivander -- Harry would never have gotten the clue that there's a Horcrux in Gringotts -- Because of the above, Harry wouldn't have garnered any insight into Wand Lore, and wouldn't have had someone to help them nab the Cup, even if they had known where to look for it.
You do realize that Dumbledore had a LOT of psychological damage from his teenage relationship with Grindelwald. He poured his entire soul into his boyfriend, every ounce of faith and trust, and after it backfired in the most horrific way, he was never truly able to trust others, even the ones who should have had his full trust. It's one of the greatest tragedies of the entire series, because Dumbledore never really opening up about things caused several large issues.
@Krish Nair I never thought they were boyfriends but when I first read this book I assumed they had some sort of romantic relationship. When I first read these books I always thought he was gay because they never gave him a female love interest and the fact he dressed so flamboyantly when he was younger. Those things aren't exclusive to gay men but I always thought those were hints towards it so the book didn't have to admit that the most powerful wizard in the world was gay and upset people who didn't like that idea.
Deleted scenes are extremely common for movies. In this case I believe I've heard both that and the Petunia scene were cut from pacing: the opening of the finished cut of the movie largely has no dialogue and an emotional score playing, white it flits between the mirrored scenarios of both Harry and Hermione parting ways with the families in preparation for what comes next. Stopping to have some dialogue scenes in between that would have killed some of that momentum and atmosphere
Molly's fears from the book5 felt like they were coming to life, I can just imagine her anxiety when port-key after port-key came back with no family member. Oh just by the way... just why would they turn into Harry, why not become muggles, Harry would've been hidden as he was during the wedding.
Right? Harry could've drove off with the Dursley's and then portkeyed to the Burrow. He couldn't portkey out of Privet Drive because of Thickness, but he can from the Tonks' house. So they could have just driven him somewhere else. The Death Eaters weren't looking for MUGGLE transportation.
Omg. I feel so validated right now. Litterally no one knows what I'm talking about when I tell them that my favorite part out all 7 books is the Ron/ Malfod punch. I laughed so hard when I first read it, and could not find the passage afterwards. Not even when I listened to the audio version of the book. I felt like I had imagined the scene.
Can I just say that after Harry “died” and Dumbledore showed up and “spread his arms wide” I wanted Harry to just run to Dumbledore and hug him like he was his grandfather or something. Every time I read this part I want it to happen so bad, I want them both to cry and hug each other because they both meant so much to each other and just.... gah! It would’ve brought me to tears. The first time I read the book I wanted it to happen, but it didn’t.
Active Advocate an exclusively “doesn’t make sense” video. No review because it would be a lot less than 5 minutes of “gushing”. The ONLY good thing about it is that it brings us back to hogwarts. That’s literally it.
I know someone who liked it. They liked it. They also read the canon books and liked those then read the Cursed Child and thought yep this is a pretty good representation of the series.
Yeah I remember reading the final face off, and being like "wait what?" Having to go back a bit and read it again. Because it just kinda happened. He was just dead all of a sudden.
Wow I saw Harry telling Neville to kill Nagini as the complete opposite. I saw it as him being like Dumbledore and giving someone a task without explaining why it was important or anything beyond - when you see an opening kill the snake. If I remember it correctly, it has been a while since I read the book.
Harry's dumb actions reflect the Dumbledore young age mistakes. They both make mistakes or do dumb stuff because they don't know everything. Just a comparison of growth.
It’s was regulus black, not aberforth that sent kreacher out with Voldemort but summoned him back as soon as Voldemort left the cave while kreacher lay there in absolute agony after drinking the potion to test if it worked and to fit the locket in the basin. This is a huge point, regulus was thought to be killed serving the dark lord In OOTP but when In actual fact he returned to the cave to drink that potion himself and allow kreacher this time to take the locket and destroy it once and for all - regulus died to inferi by being dragged into the lake unable to help himself sacrificing himself for kreacher as well as an attempt to stop Voldemort. Kreacher specifically yells In the final battle “for my master regulus!” While wearing the non horcrux locket that Harry gifted him in grimauld place.
I have always interpreted that the tongue-tying curse makes him unable to speak specifically the location of the headquarters, and when it comes in effect it gives you that feeling, not that the curse would stop you speaking at all.
The thing I love about the 7bharry scene is that it's all from Harry perspective so as you are reading you are so worried for everyone else. Fantastic stuff and use of perspective.
Why didn't Snape try to defend himself vs Nagini as he was a talented wizard? A. Dumbledore was such a Machiavellian string puller. Hogwarts students really are sorted too soon. Albus very much should have been sorted into Slytherin.
When I compare the finale of the book and film between Harry and Voldermort, I much prefer the book because it's the depth of Harry's understanding that really triumphs. That's what's shown in that confrontational dialogue they have just before the final duel. You talked about Dumble's schooling of Harry in Voldie's history in the previous book. The finale in the book the culmination of that.
So I voted Yes for Cursed Child simply because I want to see your "Doesnt make sense" video on it lol. I love these videos (as well as every video you do). You go into so much detail when you review books and comment on underlying issues/ motivations of the characters. I bet you were GREAT at book reports in school 😂😂 Love it!💜
Dang I loved watching/listening to you talk about this story! Seeing and hearing your emotions and expressions and whatnot was a blast and you brought back ALL the feels from when I read this years ago. Thanks so much for bringing us along with you on this re-read!
Dumbledore didn’t say he didn’t trust Harry enough to give him crucial info. He said he loved and cared for him too much to burden him with the information.
🤣🤣🤣 Torture ... yes! BUT I cant wait to see a "doesn't make sense" video on it! All the issues with the time Turner necklace... Do the adults at Hogwarts even watch the children?? lol
The Cursed Child should only be experienced in person, watching the off shoot play in person. It is NOT canon (because it can't be) and is a fun fan fict only.
I agree that Voldemort's death is better done in the film. It's much more dramatic and cathartic, and feels like a strong payoff to the saga. In the book, that scene is very talky, and then the duel itself is quick and even a little confusing on a first read.
Gabe Rodriguez I think people mostly object to him disintegrating. The big thing was he tried to be above death and ultimately died a mortal death. My first read I definitively went what? and had to give it a second read.
Your reviews make me see hagrid in a new light. I used to just not care one way or another but I like the way you talk about him. I think it's interesting how differently fans stick to and love different characters:]
Knowing Lupin he would've only helped Harry, Ron and Hermione if Dumbledore told him to do so. Otherwise Lupin would not believe Harry had a task to seek and destroy the Horcruxes. He would say Dumbledore would never trust a child to do such a thing.
It's hard to put in words the emotional roller coaster that the journey of these characters have had on each one of us. I think those feelings are what makes this random so strong and devoted. The series has been completed for more than a decade now and we can't just get enough of it. You made a great work of it. Thank you!
22:03 I was actually tearing up at Merphy's explanation of their friendship and then laughing when she said "Harry, the idiot" 23:03 . These mood swings ...
I’m very shocked you didn’t talk about Lupin wanting to join the trio! That was such a powerful scene for me to read, and I felt so bad for Lupin after Harry was so cold to him.
Did he really? I feel like he did the same thing, he only gave Neville enough information to make sure the plan could go on cause he thought he was gonna die. He didn't tell anybody what he was planning and he didn't really explain why or how the snake had to be killed. The fact that neville managed to kill it with the Gryffindor sword it's just pure luck.
@@willigagbob8243 no, with nagini being a horrocrux you supposedly needed a special way of killing it a.k.a basilisc venom (i know there's a couple more but that's the most used one on the books) and neville uses the sword of griffyndor which happens to be the right move but harry didn't tell him that. so if neville had tried killing it some other way it wouldn't have worked.
i love harry and i love your channel!! i will say though that i don’t think petunia was heartless about leaving harry, i actually think she was a little sad! but i do think she was too ashamed to admit that she had been terrible to him, so she had to persist in pretending like she had been a wonderful mother and aunt.
You are absolutely amazing in your takes on these books, and I appreciate your channel beyond words. I used to read religiously and for some reason, I stopped and could never finish a book ever. You’ve helped me to regain my passion for reading. Thank you 😊
I love dh because of the scenes where Harry seems to truly grasp all that he could have had with his family. He finds his mother's letter, and it becomes one of his most treasured objects. He keeps it with him in the mokeskin pouch at all times. He finds out they had a cat (possibly Crookshanks??), and that Sirius had given him his first (& last) broomstick. Then later he visits his old home, finds the statue and his house and just needs to simply touch a part of the home he never had but always deserved. And the people who graffitied the sign was SUCH a beautiful little addition too. It's those quieter scenes of loss that make me the saddest. Yes, Dobby, Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Mad-Eye, hell even Ted Tonks's deaths are all gut-wrenchingly sad, but Harry realizing he didn't get the childhood he should have had, realizing that he was and is loved and actually seeing proof of the lives that were lost that night are just so. sad. He's always being told that his mother loved him so much that she died for him when she didn't have to, but I think these small moments are when he fully grasps that Lily wasn't just a mother who died for her son. she was a human who lived and loved, and Harry finally feels that loss.
I really appreciated your bit about Dumbledore. A lot of reviewers or simply people who consume media, they expect characters to just, do things perfectly all the time. If a character makes a mistake a lot of people point that out as a plot hole. Which makes sense sometimes, if say the solution is really obvious and there's no reason the character wouldn't do it. But as you say, the mistakes Dumbledore make are in character mistakes based on his personal flaws, and it infuriates me when some people don't get stuff like that in a book or a movie.
The Death Eaters would have never let Kreacher out of their sight after finding him there with Potter. Harry knew this. I love your videos keep up the great work can’t wait for Snape video....could care less about a Curse Child review but would appreciate a “Everything Wrong With” CC video. Please start with the fact that it even exist.
I teared up a little watching this video because you talked about the love hagrid has for harry, as Hagrid is one of my favorite characters from the saga. I think the main trio in a way were amongst the few people who really treated Hagrid with the respect he deserved, like Dumbledore and some in the Order. My headcannon is: They probably were also the first to do so without having to take Dumbledore's trust in Hagrid into consideration. That probably means a lot to Hagrid too. Hagrid is (ironically) belittled many times in the series, treated like a savage, incompetent or even worse and then this kid, Harry, who is the son of his late friends, is so open to Hagrid. And then he bring friends along, who visit Hagrid all the time and make him feel SO less lonely and so more cherished in the Hogwarts grounds... I mean... Argh I love Hagrid so much, I just wanna hug him.
I first discovered you and your channel when I was looking up videos about Harry Potter. Any and all videos from you (no matter how long) are awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Okay, didn't Harry learn through his scar visions of V Diddy (the intense ones when he found out the horcruxes had vanished) that Hogsmeade had protections against Harry, and then Harry's first fucking step after that was to Apparate there? He's such a dummy.
Yess, finally! About the curse on Voldemort's name: I'm pretty sure they said his name quite a few times in the woods ans literally nothing happened. Since I remembered that fact, I was quite annoyed every time. ^^" Can't wait for your Snape video, that's a great idea! Something I found really interesting and that I had completely forgotten is when Hermione explains to the boys that an horcrux have more power over someone the more he's emotionally attached to it. Which might partially explain Kreacher's behavior the whole time he had to keep it safe.
They did not at any point in the woods, Ron established that he didn’t want the name said out loud very early on. I think it was said at Grimmauld Place, but I’d assume the taboo couldn’t break a Fidelius charm.
@@undisclosedperson3871 I thought it might have been said once Ron left. It has been said many times in Grimmauld Place, of that I'm sure, and that's probably why there were Death Eaters on the street, but they couldn't see the house.
I think they did probably say it in the woods, but they were under all of the protection charms. When they were caught they had like just gotten to the location and hadn't set up the protection yet.
"Luna always gets not enough attention because there's so much to talk about" - 25:34 thats also her character in the books; unsung and not brave in the conventional gryffindor sense
I completely forgot about Regulus before I reread the series a couple years ago, so when I read about his death, while yes I very much think it was problematic and didn't HAVE to happen, it was still devastating and wow did I cry over a character I hardly knew.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind you talking about these books for 2h, for me your videos are so much more enjoyable than the HP films, I love the books and I love your videos, you're witty, honest and you spot the details I've never noticed before while rereading the series!
I've been so excited for you to get to Deathly Hallows! Won't lie, I teared up at a point our two remembering the book. Great review! Also looking forward to the "doesn't make sense" portion :-) As far as the length goes, you could have easily made it an hour, and I would have gladly watched!
Great review! Harry only told Neville because he believed he was going to die and wanted someone else to have the knowledge just like Dumbledore did with him. I always thought that Dumbledore didn’t want the knowledge about the horcruxes to be known to more than Harry Ron and Hermione is because it it very sensitive information. The people in the Order are trustworthy but you have to take into account torture and legilimancy. Voldemort was watching the Order members and didn’t think that Harry was capable of discovering his secret. Basically the fewer people who knew the less chance Voldy would suspect anything and double his defenses.
Such a great review, as always. I just assumed that there were more charms that would have activated if Snape showed up at Grimmauld Place or that the effects would be much worse for him. Harry didn't want Kreacher to be in danger. He didn't even want Ron and Hermione to go with him. He may be an idiot but he's a noble one. Deceiving Voldemort isn't easy. If Dumbledore had told Harry more Voldemort might have learned about it because of their telepathic link. Harry just thought Ron was being superstitious about the name thing, not realizing the actual danger and even Ron uses Voldemort's name at first in the book.
I wish you would give your opinion about the movies! I'm guessing you didn't love them or else you'd have watched them more than once and therefore remember them better. I didn't really like any of them, although Goblet of fire worked as a weird teen high school drama comedy movie, if not as an adaptation of the book. It seems I'm in the minority though because the movies do seem highly regarded. I don't get it. Each one was a major disappointment to me. Rowlings dry humor was completely lost in translation.
The Crawley siblings...I think you mean the Carrows. The Crawleys are from Downton Abbey, which gives me some really amazing mental images of Death Eaters in fancy Edwardian costumes. :-) All joking aside, I've really enjoyed watching these videos and joining you on this journey of love for the books! And as much as I joke, you're a lot better at paraphrasing passages from the books from memory than I ever could.
I still remember when this book came out. It was the first book I ever ordered on my own through amazon and it came in a red box which said DO NOT OPEN UNTIL JULY 21st 2007. I think it was one of the few books I read in a day! Also, the film adaptation was great especially part 1. The acting is superb.
Sorry for mixing up my names! I kept saying Aberforth when I mean Regulus around the 9 min mark. Sorry I didn't catch it in editing!
You got the wrong brother! 😂😂
I was so confused haha. Like "why are you bringing up Aberforth?"
that threw me off lol
I'm just gonna say it: McGonnagal was the only person who was awesome in the beginning and stayed awesome all throughout the books. Everybody else had fucked up royal sometime in the series but not McGonnagal. She truly is the greatest Gryffindor.
Desmond Gentle Yeah McGonnagall is awesome but...Molly?!
Made even better by this scene🤓

.
'I've always wanted to use that spell!'
(Seriously, this was possibly the only addition to the whole 'Battle of Hogwarts' scene in the movie that I liked.)
MY FAVORITE CHARACTER!!! Anyone remember when Carrow spat in her face?? Harry said, “ya done fucked up.”
Log line for the book: High school dropout steals identities, robs a bank, and destroys priceless heirlooms in quest to murder the man who killed his parents.
Perfect 👌
That could be a really interesting story even outside the context of Harry Potter.
*the man who killed his parents and a lot more people.
@@banjotiki3910 the serial killer that killed his parents
Im only human evil racial supremacist mass murderer who has an army.
Umbridge is so terrible that the locket could be affecting her and you'd never know.
Making her a lot more evil
I think that was supposed to be the irony of it.
That's what I always assumed.
Umbridge was horrible before she got the locket. I dont recall exactly when mundungus took the locket but it was after Sirius died, at the end of book 5, so that means she was evil before getting the locket
I think the trio had made a joke about that. Like she's just so evil her being possessed wouldn't change anything
MC YT Well the reason movie Voldy got snapped because it looks cool visually (but I agree with you, his book death is better and much more poetic)
If I lived in the movies universe, I wouldn’t believe that he was dead. I mean... he was meant to be dead the first time.
Him having a corpse was important to prove he was just a person and was also definitely dead.
@@nont18411 yeah, i know why they chose that, i just don't think it actually works
@@Jackylification exactly. like given voldemort's history, why would anyone believe that he's really dead this time if harry has no way of proving it?
MC YT Right, he should maintain his physical form to prove that he’s truly dead. The reason Thanos snap in the movie works and wasn’t just cool visually because the victim of the snap truly get deleted from existence in the comic so the way the Russos did it is cool and also faithful to source material.
I always liked Dudley's goodbye. It was small, but for HIM it was massive. I need to do a re-read, because I did forget a lot of these little aspects.
I choose to believe bespoke wands are a thing, just expensive or rare.
Agreed. Also I would think a brand new wand wouldn’t be accustomed to the previous wizard’s habits and personality, so even if it wasn’t 100% perfect from the start maybe it would more easily mold to the users abilities
@@beasleydad I think that Draco's first wand was custom made. Read ot somewhere, could be wrong tho
"Are you thinking about consequences to your actions?" No, he's a Gryffindor 😂
Hedwig and Dobby were the saddest deaths in all the books.
It was "mundane finality" but your point still stands.
totally agree. also, in the movie, harry is the only one to see voldemort die, so he basically would have to go back to everyone else, tell them voldemort is dead, and he doesn't even have a corpse to prove it to them
Also, in the book voldy dies with no difference than a normal person. All his life he tried to be great and different from others but in death he was as mundane as the next person.
I'd like to pick up the wording of that other comment and add that it's not really black mist, he basically turns into dusty confetti 😂
Bull. Crap.
I'm a little low key shocked at 0 mention of Hedwig in that chase scene. That absolutely killed me
I just love the way Voldemort dies.
@@anaisabelpais7389 pretty sure he called Regulus by name.
@@willigagbob8243
He says “Fight! Fight! Fight for my Master, defender of house-elves! Fight the Dark Lord, in the name of brave Regulus! Fight!”
So when he says 'my master', it's not clear which master. Harry is his master now, and Kreacher did become fond of him in this book, so could be saying that he's the defender of house elves
This is my favourite book in the entire series...
It's like this book connected all the other books and made a unbelievable plot..
"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Doesnt make Sense" The whole d*mn book
yeah its just awful, yet another forced-dysfunctional relationship bit (bc it "sells" right?).
It's not even a book
Harry trusting Neville was also a plot device to point out Neville's importance as the Chosen One himself, though an unbranded one. Remember that, at least in the time period in which the books take place, Neville is the only other person to get the Sword of Gryffindor out of the Sorting Hat, which is something only a true Gryffindor can do.
He could've been the chosen one but he never was. Harry's bern the chosen one.
Wow who would have thought?
Nevielle also shown extraordinary strength. The Sword appears to a true Griffyindor. He defied Voldemort when Voldemort won the battle. He refused to bend the knee. That's why he got the sword and not because he was the second chosen one
"I don't want all my eggs in one basket, and especially a basket that spends so much time dangling on the arm of Lord Voldemort."
"ON YOUR ORDERS."
It wasn't all-caps in the book but I just thought I'd point that out.
I loved how salty that made Snape, Dumbledore was on some real b.s. to say that.
This is my favorite comment.
That is what i thought
Here's what's in the text:
Harry had pulled off the Cloak: The idea had come to him out of nowhere, born out of a desire to make absolutely sure.
---
You know Voldemort's snake. Neville? He's got a huge snake... Calls it Nagini..."
"I've heard, yeah... What about it?"
"It's got to be killed. Ron and Hermione know that, but just in case they--"
The awfulness of that possibility smothered him for a moment, made it impossible to keep talking.
And you get the chance--"
"Kill the snake?"
"Kill the snake," Harry repeated.
@@sakkenakke you're right! I think I was thinking of book 5 then Harry was reflecting on what Neville was going through.
This is the point I was going to make. Totally Bering conclusion drawn for me. Harry even says someone to carry it on. Give them enough information to do the task not enough to understand why and have their own ideas. True dumbledore thinking
Very much this, Harry does not learn from the mistakes of Dumbledore
Hedwig's death was not even mentioned. One of the first (major) death in Book 7. I remember screaming while reading.
I didn't think of that but that totally makes sense!
Very good point
I didn't notice any difference. I mean she DID unleash Dementors out to the public just to shut Harry up.
but didn’t umbridge get the locket after mundungus sold it to her after he raided the black’s house when sirius dies? she was already a piece of shit long before that
Umbridge was still able to produce a patronus which means she was not effected by the horcrux.
25:19 -- Looking on the bright side, if Harry hadn't said LV's name and got taken to Malfoy Manor:
-- They would never have rescued Luna, Griphook, and Ollivander
-- Harry would never have gotten the clue that there's a Horcrux in Gringotts
-- Because of the above, Harry wouldn't have garnered any insight into Wand Lore, and wouldn't have had someone to help them nab the Cup, even if they had known where to look for it.
Also that tussle with Malfoy enabling him to gain ownership of the Elder wand
I never can hold back my tears when Dobby dies, no matter how many times i read it.

@Krish Nair JK already told they were boyfriends

I don’t understand why they cut out the “See you, Big D” scene for the DHp1 film. It was even filmed and everything, ready to go.
That was a great scene...it's on the dvd extras though
Deleted scenes are extremely common for movies. In this case I believe I've heard both that and the Petunia scene were cut from pacing: the opening of the finished cut of the movie largely has no dialogue and an emotional score playing, white it flits between the mirrored scenarios of both Harry and Hermione parting ways with the families in preparation for what comes next. Stopping to have some dialogue scenes in between that would have killed some of that momentum and atmosphere
Deleted things are very common in movies to keep the flow and the pacing of the film.
The fact that they go to Gringotts DOESN’T EVEN GET MENTIONED has me real excited for the “Doesn’t make sense” video.
Am I the only one who wants to see a road movie starring Vernon Dursley and Daedalus Diggle?
Hahahaha! You WERE the only one but now I'm in
Do you mean the actors or the characters? Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley) died in 2013.
Such an underrated comment lmao
"Dobby is a free elf." I literally tear up every time just thinking about that scene. Gets me every single time.
Well...you COULD be done, or you could do "Cursed Child" too, by which I mean bashing it with us. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
"Now let's talk *AGAIN* about Harry the Idiot."
When I tell you I CACKLED 😂😂
Yeah I remember reading the final face off, and being like "wait what?" Having to go back a bit and read it again. Because it just kinda happened. He was just dead all of a sudden.
I think kreacher in the battle of Hogwarts said fight for my master Regulus the protector/defender of house elves. I might be wrong.
You're right, I just finished rereading the series too, I'm sure he said Regulus.
Wow I saw Harry telling Neville to kill Nagini as the complete opposite. I saw it as him being like Dumbledore and giving someone a task without explaining why it was important or anything beyond - when you see an opening kill the snake. If I remember it correctly, it has been a while since I read the book.
"And then they all got caught, Hermione got tortured, and Dobby got killed. GOOD JOB, HARRY." 😂😭
Your enthusiasm is infectious! Love your work and review.
Wonderful review! You really capture the range of emotions this book evokes. Looking forward to the Snape video!
I Love how she is wearing the top from the Philosopher's Stone

So I voted Yes for Cursed Child simply because I want to see your "Doesnt make sense" video on it lol. I love these videos (as well as every video you do). Dumbledore didn’t say he didn’t trust Harry enough to give him crucial info. He said he loved and cared for him too much to burden him with the information.
Thank you for acknowledging how great Luna is! She was always my favorite in the series. I don’t know why but I loved her
Are you going to subject yourself to the torture that is the Cursed Child?
🤣🤣🤣 Torture ... yes! BUT I cant wait to see a "doesn't make sense" video on it! All the issues with the time Turner necklace...
Do the adults at Hogwarts even watch the children?? lol
The Cursed Child should only be experienced in person, watching the off shoot play in person. It is NOT canon (because it can't be) and is a fun fan fict only.
@@rustydaboyrobot so it's practically a Harry Potter circus
@@rustydaboyrobot it's considered Canon lol, but I don't consider.
@@thebakedpriestess Considered cannon only by those few who profited from the sale. The rest of us...not so much. 😁
The locket did affect umbridge, but because her thoughts and feelings aligned with Voldemort's it made her happy.
He knew about Harry being the chosen one though
It's hard to put in words the emotional roller coaster that the journey of these characters have had on each one of us. I think those feelings are what makes this random so strong and devoted. The series has been completed for more than a decade now and we can't just get enough of it.
You made a great work of it. Thank you!
22:03 I was actually tearing up at Merphy's explanation of their friendship and then laughing when she said "Harry, the idiot" 23:03 . These mood swings ...
Although it's never said explicitly, I think Ron must have some magical talent for imitating people's voices.
We’re in the Endgame now
“So Tony...Tony must die?”
“You have kept him alive so that he can die at the right moment?”
Pepper Potts to Doctor Strange
Voldemort: I am immortal
Harry: And I am.....master of death
Expelliarmus
In defense of Harry's decision making skills, his brain is still developing and that includes the decision making part of his brain lol
I’m very shocked you didn’t talk about Lupin wanting to join the trio! That was such a powerful scene for me to read, and I felt so bad for Lupin after Harry was so cold to him.
The entire story would have been "Neville Longbottom" if Voldi had interpreted the prediction another way
Did he really? I feel like he did the same thing, he only gave Neville enough information to make sure the plan could go on cause he thought he was gonna die. He didn't tell anybody what he was planning and he didn't really explain why or how the snake had to be killed. The fact that neville managed to kill it with the Gryffindor sword it's just pure luck.
Exactly! I thought the same thing.
True, but with it being the last Horcrux, kill Nagini before trying to kill Voldemort was the only relevant information needed.
I love your channel. You speak with so much passion and bring the books you review to life. You make me want to read all the books! Don't ever stop!
With all these amazing character arcs everyone forgets about Luna because she started off perfect and didn’t need an arc
I first discovered you and your channel when I was looking up videos about Harry Potter. Any and all videos from you (no matter how long) are awesome. Thanks for sharing!
What I hate about the book is how Ron leaves. It's established early on that his loyalty is his greatest strength. Then Rowling just robs him of it.
Ron is worst
Goblet of fire. I rest my case
Okay, didn't Harry learn through his scar visions of V Diddy (the intense ones when he found out the horcruxes had vanished) that Hogsmeade had protections against Harry, and then Harry's first fucking step after that was to Apparate there? He's such a dummy.
Wait when you kept referring to Aberforth and Kreacher didn’t you mean Regulus Black?
Same, I was thrown off a bit
Joel Katumba I was like what ? He was a death eater wtf
See pinned comment :)
Aina Paavola I see, she added that after my comment. All is well :)

Alyssa Watson they had set them up
I was surprised how many things I' ve forgotten too!!! I also admire Hermione even more seen how many times is her that saves the day!!!
Harry's personality was much more pronounced in this book. There was so many moments where i was cheering for him for his actions and one liners.
"Luna always gets not enough attention because there's so much to talk about" - 25:34 thats also her character in the books; unsung and not brave in the conventional gryffindor sense
Let’s be real, Dobby’s death is the most heartbreaking in the entire series.
I completely forgot about Regulus before I reread the series a couple years ago, so when I read about his death, while yes I very much think it was problematic and didn't HAVE to happen, it was still devastating and wow did I cry over a character I hardly knew.
I'd like to read a version where Harry accepts the help of the only adults/individuals. Having Lupin or Fred/George coming along would be cool
Just hearing you talk about this book made me tear up, I love it so much and it always brings up so many memories
Basically the fewer people who knew the less chance Voldy would suspect anything and double his defenses.
you have so much passion for these books, it is a joy to watch and it takes me back to the time I read the books. Thank you..
I waited so much for thus video! Thanks a lot, you did an amazing work here!
