Thank you for the honest review...you really saved my nephew from his tantrums forcing me to buy this GAN 356 Maglev and after showing this video to him, his mind, body & soul is at peace now 😂 😂 😂
Don't apologise for a negative review. If multiple cube manufacturers are trying to maximise profit while going through an identity crisis (and producing below par/overpriced cubes) then the review is warranted. The day you only make positive reviews is the day I stop trusting your opinion, so keep at it 👍
I have the Gan 356 maglev. With a decent lube setup, but not too much, and on settings 2 and 5, the cube actually feels amazing. Corner cutting is also great. The auto alignment starts around the same place as a 12 or a 14 but the pull itself is not as strong, so it feels a lot calmer and more controllable. Honestly I think this is a massive sleeper cube and if people gave it a chance they would really love it.
i kinda actually like my 356 Maglev, and while it is my first actual speed cibe upgrading from the i Carry, I've compared it to my friends 12 and V9 I've found to actually like the auto udjustment especially with the M slice ironically. I feel like my M slice EPLLs just go faster than my mind can think with this cube. Maybe I'm not used to not having enough control but overshooting isn't a problem, but that's coming from someone who only acverages 15 (my times have decreased solely because of the M slice and S slices I use for some ZBLS/ZBLL). Massive sleeper. I liked my purchase but again I have some specific tastes and turning styles. As for other reports on the 356 Maglev, I've only heard good aside from this video: potentially being even better than the 14, Cubehead's review along with other GAN-affiliated propaganda (Tymon can avg 5 on everything). I do think that this could be flagship level especially if it did a better job than the 14 despite having 36 vs 1k+ combinations. Also I don't think magnet adjustment matters thaaaat much because according to everyone it doesn't make much of a difference at higher than 2 tps. SO buy it or don't, but do a little more research outside of this compilation of tihs cube slipping out of these guys's hands before completely throwing this one off the table. For my current setup I'm using 2-6 (I do agree with their point that only half of the travel distance settings are useful but nothing a little lube can't fix) with lunar/nebula and I might try 2-5 or 1-5 soon
I bought the 356M and it overturning like crazy. I also didn’t get the UV Version and the frosted plastic doesn’t have any grip. My times were really bad compared to my standards. I can’t recommend it at all. Rs3m V5 is so much better and it’s even cheaper.
I don’t know but I feel like people shouldn’t be making their decision after watching this video. Even when I was about to get my 356 maglev, I saw this video and due to which when I did my first turns, it was disappointing. I kept that cube aside for like a week or two. But then I thought of giving it a chance. Center piece travel on 1 and tension on 6 made it much better (and of course lubes) and right now I’m maining my 356 maglev. This cube has potential and gan cube at this price point is worth it. I’ve seen a lot of speedcubers switch to gan 356 maglev. My opinion is people should give it a try.
just dont trust any person, trust the whole community, we can prove that because i have seen a lot of reviews and the most of them says that "is a great choice if you like gan cubes but you dont wanna spend 80 dollars, and its still a top tier cube" also, if u ask me, i do not recommend the v9 (i prefer tornado v3 or gan cubes), but a lot of cubers recommend it or main it.
I bought an rs and magnetized it myself. I prefer it magnetized to my rs3m 2020 and my rs3m v5. I must say though it was a real pain in the neck to magnetize, they aren't the easy to take apart cubies, they are the tiny tab type, and on top of it all I got a drop of glue on a blue piece and it's ugly where I scraped it off. Feel wise though it's pretty great. Without magnets it was basically garbage.
Same, the 356RS was the first cube I magnetized and despite being a lot harder to do it than the Yuxin Little Magic or the Meilong 3, it felt so much better. I have no idea why, but my home magnetized 356RS also felt way smoother and overall more pleasing to use than a 356M. Back then the RS didn't made that much sense already, but I'm afraid the RS2 may take this one step further if it uses the same kind of edge cap design as newer GAN puzzles like the XS, 11 and newer... just like the 11 Air, the lack of externally accessible clips makes it way harder to disassemble the edge pieces to glue the magnets inside it. We have tons of cheap magnetic cubes right now, it makes zero sense paying over twice as much as a decent basic magnetic cube on a non-magnetic cube that's a major hassle to magnetize yourself, especially when there are other options out there that cost about the same and perform a lot better without all that pain.
@@gcolombelli I totally agree. If I'd known how difficult the pieces were I would never have done it. By the time I got it it was too late so I just did it anyway.
I wonder if this review turned out the same way a few years earlier when Magnets in Cubes weren’t that common. Turning style has changed and that’s why going back feels so awkward.
I honestly hate when people say “This cube is too fast” or “How do you possibly control that”. People have different turning styles, and personally even the gan 14 pro is too slow for me. I tried tension 1 compression 4 on it, and it was still too slow. I like a super effortless turning style, and it isn’t enough for me. And I can bet a lot of you disagree with me. Using “Too fast” as a reason is just dumb. And I can tell you about many other cubes I think are slow. Weilong V9 on the loosest tension is slow for me. Tornado V3 is also slow. When I say it is slow, it isn’t that I cant handle it, it’s that its not comfortable for me to turn. I turn incredibly light. Every cube on the market is slow to me.
Tornado V3 is one of the fastest cubes out there, people literally have to use to lots of lube to slow it down. Your turning style gotta have it's qualms since max park is one of the fastest cubers out there and uses a tornado V3. Even the pros at the very top use GAN 12, since every gan after that has been a downgrade from every standpoint.

And im pretty sure the cube you tried isn't that baad , all youtubers gave good resume about it 😮 Plz don't listen to this video , the cube is worth and you can go watch other videos .
When I started cubing, I bought the RS thinking it was magnetic. I searched for magnetic gan cubes and the rs popped up and I was like: OMG A GAN CUBE AT $17 :O And I got it and I was disappointed when I saw the mistake. The same thing happened to me when I bought a gan 249 v2 and I thought it was magnetic.
Buying a "cheap" gan cube is like buying a cheap car from a more luxary brand. For instance you can get a $30000 car with all the bells and whistles and it's a better car. Or you can get a $30000 car from a luxary brand that doesn't have any bells and whistles because it's the base model. You're buying it because it says Gan, not because it's good.
you're right about the "people will think gan isn't a good brand" because I got the RS after a 3 years break so I didn't really know the newer cubes and it just sucks
Thank you as always for making decision choosing cubes, But a question? Does the cheap price of this GAN cube has affected your solving or this is really non competitive to other maglev GAN cubes or Moyu cubes?
I have used this cube for more than 3 months and the corner core magnet dislodge twice. Not sure whether it is only the cube that I bought has this problem or others may also have.
Most cubes nowadays come extremely fast out of the box, including the gan 356 maglev shown in this video and pretty much any gan cube. Moyu also tends to do that, so there are a lot of options. What I'd recommend is choose a cube that the reviews say comes extremely fast out of the box. Then choose one that has magnet adjustment so you can put it at the lowest magnet strength. Lastly, get yourself some lubes, both fast and slow (my recommendation is weight 4 + dnm37 + silk/mystic), so you can make the cube be exactly as fast or slow as you want. Good luck!
If you want a light turning cube, consider cube the pro used with blind solved. Usually they have a light cube with lower magnet strength. From my experience, gan cube usually is light, but the price is just... Ugh. I would recommend something like Dayan tengyun, moyu gts3m, tornado both V2 and v3 (V2 is a bit smaller and a tad expensive, v3 is more modern and more solid with adjustable magnet strength) and rs ball core (specifically ball core, because it has weaker magnet). If you have a speed cube retailer near you, try to ask them if you can give a turn on some of the cubes. So that you can make sure the cube suit your turning style. Sorry for the essay, hopefully it could help.
I think the guhong pro m is criminally under rated at how good it is for $20. The performance and feel of the ys3m is on par with the guhong pro m but given it's lack of durability of the corner core magnets I can't see why anyone would recommend it. That's what happened to mine initially and I pressed fit it back in and thought it was fine. Then while solving it popped out again and latched onto another core magnet popped it off and repeat until four had been messed up and the internal were blocked by more magnets stacking up on the core corner slots. Its a matter of time before yours does too. It shouldn't happen to any magnet core ever. The fact a 20 dollar cube that never had a magnet pop put ever is telling in the design. I never buy cubes when they come out immediately anymore because the quality on them feel like its planned obsolescence. I almost bought a tornado v3 until I read the reviews. It seems newer flagship cubes have this problem where quality control is abysmal. Anyway, I hope your ys3m holds up. If you haven't glued it together do it asap and don't make my mistake.
