Thanks for recommending this video about making a saw horse!

It's a nice simple first project, that'll be useful to you for a long time. The nails *WILL* get loose over time, so if you want the stools to stay nice and sturdy for longer you should use glue and screws instead.
When you're ready for a slightly more complicated version, take a look at this video:

      Enjoy! 😃

@@TightwadWorkshop great! Do you have any suggestions for hand plane brands that won’t break the bank?

@@mikhail8853 Well, everyone has their opinion on this topic. My opinion is that "ANY plane is better than no plane at all". Here in Australia the biggest hardware chain is Bunnings, and at the "low end" they have these 3 options available:
      AUD$35 - www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-225mm-bench-plane_p5520081
      AUD$73 - www.bunnings.com.au/trojan-235mm-block-plane_p0023188
      AUD$118 - www.bunnings.com.au/stanley-245mm-no-4-smoothing-bench-plane_p5761053
In this case I'd recommend getting the cheap $35 plane, then use it to practice sharpening/setup and learn how to use it. Once you've used it for a while you'll have a clearer idea of what works well for you, and what you'd like in your "next step up" plane.
Here are a couple of videos showing what you'll need to do with pretty much ANY hand plane once you unpack it from the box:
      Basic setup - th-cam.com/video/4xA3GDHq-CM/w-d-xo.html
      Improved setup - th-cam.com/video/t4agbmcZxwE/w-d-xo.html
And if you want to have a try at restoring a vintage plane, have a look at this video for some ideas and techniques:

Please record and upload some video of your progress, I'd really like to see how this works out for you. 🙂

I guess the simplest way is to e-mail me here:
      tightwadworkshop@gmail.com
If you want to go a little fancier, you can shoot a video with your phone and upload it to your own TH-cam channel (but e-mail sure is easy!) :-)

I'd love to see that! You can always upload a video short to your YT account and link back here (obviously taking the usual "keep your kids safe on YT" precautions).

All this time I never realised the saw blade at the top is also a right angle ruler

    • @TightwadWorkshop
      @TightwadWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

This saw also has a 45 degree protractor (well, it actually has 88 and 43 degrees, but let's not quibble).
It might be possible to loosen the screws holding the handle to the blade to correct the setting, but I doubt it would stay correct for very long.

Some models of saws are even marked with 45° and 90° angles.
