I’m 29yo and a regular beach goer in Perth, I’ve never seen a shark. I think it’s just statistically all of the frequented coastline in WA will mean shark sightings and shark attacks so people think they hear about lots of sharks in Perth but there really isn’t many.
Well that's exactly what the family hosting me in 1984 told me before I dove into the ocean at Cottesloe Beach: "Sharks? Not too many this year mate ...." Not too reassuring. Turns out the ocean water is freezing cold in September, to the point I thought I had totally lost my right foot. But I loved everything in Perth and WA, especially the friendly, happy people.
FANTASTIC video!!!! Hilarious fascination with sharks there. hahahaha I swim at Mullaloo beach every Friday from the club house North to the surf life saving lookout point, never had an issue with sharks. The second helicopter you seen was the shark helicopter its the red and yellow one. This is a daily patrol conducted by the helicopter during summer. Does not mean there is a shark of significance around, though. Hahaha The yellow bouys that you see in the distance mark the kite surfing area and some of them are for monitoring. There is a shark alarm that goes off from the club house when there is a shark around. Think you should have swam from the club house at Mullaloo, has other amenities available as well, coffee, cafe, etc. Being biaised as I am totally devastated with at 6.5 but glad to be reviewed 🙂 🙂 As you said, best time to go to beach is in the morning as afternoon brings the wind, its gets choppy and is less pleasant. I've been to Bondi, Manly, Gold Coast but I still say Perth has the better beaches. The swells on Bondi is crazy that's why there is a show on rescuing people there. Having the sun set on the west coast that tops it.

Esperance has some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. Stunning, cliff surrounded coves of the whitest, white sand and crystal clear water. Go in the hotter months to enjoy lots of swimming.

It can be! But there’s a lot more population and rainforest runoff that can muddy the waters after heavy rain etc. But you can certainly find amazing clarity in places like Stradbroke Island, the Whitsundays, Yeppoon, and the Great Barrier Reef of course!
The best Trigg beach you didn't even look at. Trigg through to Swanbourne is magnificent with endless strips of blue water and yellow sand. Only high rise is at Scarborough and that's just a handful of towers, due to people power shutting down developers.
@@cjexplores In winter there are a number of good protected bays in the Trigg to Hillarys strip. Good for swimming. For some of them (in theory) the reef should protect from any aggressive species, sharks, gropers! etc.
I'm more interested in judging the beaches, not the shops. 1. City Beach. 2. Sorrento 3. Mullaloo. 4. Leightons. 5. Cottesloe. 6. Scarborough. 7. South Beach 8. Floreat. 9. Trigg 10. Rockingham... All sandy beaches. But elsewhere there are good rocky bays. How about list some spots for swimming in the river.
HI there. One question about your drone: did you need any particular permission to fly around beaches and so on ? Do you have any suggestion (websites with rules and no-fly zones to check, whatever...) in Australia ?
WA coastline spans some +12,000kms and what you expored is only a tiny snippet. Our beaches are the best in the world. When you live here in Perth depending on the month of the season you head to the beaches in the early morning before any sea breeze comes in unless your into windsurfing. You can't arrive in WA and zip around in such a short timeframe - you need a 6mths to a year to expore this vast State properly or if travelling whe whole of Aust then at least a year

oh, no they did not, they mentioned Pinnaroo Point and this is exactly Whitfords Beach, they did not like "no caffee and too quiet" thing. They gave it only 6/10. Well they are young people and one just cannot have caffee everywhere, one needs a nice place with hardly any people there, not that it is crowded in Mullaloo. And to add there is always a coffee van park on the carpark that provides drinks icecream and snacks if one so desires, there are toilets and showers to wash off all the sand before getting in the car. I am local, just a stone throw away therefore I am very familiar with this beach. I walk there most of the mornings for a swim.

You missed Swanbourne Beach, the official Nudist Beach - located between Scarborough Beach and Cottesloe Beach ??? And only 8 for Cottesloe ?? Really, this is our Premier Beach and best for family swimming, nowhere near as lumpy as Scarborough and on the left hand side of the groyne is a very popular surfing area

For me, Cottesloe has always been a beach I never enjoyed going to. I moved to Doubleview in 1962 when I was 13. Back then, Scarborough was the premier beach with 3 to 4 metre waves regularly rolling in, Luna Park and the beachfront shops. Unforunately, the Snakepit was closed just a few weeks before I moved. Over those 63 years I've watched Scarborough get systematically destroyed. The waves have now gone, Luna Park replaced by a shopping centre and to add insult to injury, a stupid swimming pool right on the beachfront. In 1962 Trigg Point was Trigg Island and the groynes along the coast to stop erosion have had the oppostie effect, especially at City baech and Floreat. The length of the groynes protruding into the ocean is now less than half. For me today, City Beach is the best beach with Trigg #2. But they don't compare to the beaches in the 60's.

I'm an island boy who grew up in the Philippines but now living 30 mins away from Frankfurt. I miss the sun and beaches. Seems like Perth is full of beautiful beaches perfect if you are looking for summer vibes. One thing, is Australia really infested with sharks?
Hi Drew! 👋🏼 Perth is definitely one of the best cities in Australia for that beach life vibe. But yes, there are always sharks in the waters. 99.9% of the time you don’t even know that they are there and they will leave you completely alone. But every now and then, there will be a shark attack. Fortunately some of the beaches actually have a shark net surrounding them, like Cottesloe, so you can swim freely! I guess most of the time its absolutely fine to swim in the open water, maybe just try and stay out of the waters during shark feeding times 😉
@@cjexplores Yeah i have seen a video of shark attack in Bondi beach last year, that was sad. That is a setback cause i like to swim and soak that crystal clear waters but I can't imagine a shark suddenly pops within reach. It would be reassuring atleast that all their beaches would have shark nets like Cottesloe. But again, i'd still love to see it for myself if i have time. I'll just stay on shallow waters anyway and i'll be fine🙂

@@drewjamila3868 we did at the time but can’t remember how that shop went down. There are hundreds of wrecks all along that stretch of coastline from the trading route that used to run along there. Fascinating history with the VOC (Dutch East India Trading Company)
Kings Park for a Perth sunrise, but Esperance is spectacular, that's 700km South of Perth overlooking the Southern Ocean. Perhaps the top of Bluff Knoll for a land view. For Perth sunsets, anywhere on any beach, from the top of Bold Park or the West End of Rottnest Island, but my favourite sunset spot near Perth is the top floor of a luxury hotel in Scarborough Beach, with lobster and champagne of course, and a MUST HAVE view to the West overlooking the Indian Ocean. Riding a camel on a sunset Cable Beach tour in Broome might be my all time favourite, but that is 2,400km up the coast. You have about 10,194 km of West Australian State coast to explore. Exmouth to swim with whale sharks, Ningaloo Reef is special. Anywhere around Coral Bay, they're all special, but don't go swimming when you go past Broome. When it's too hot for the North, there are magnificent beaches and surf spots, with the world's best wines, when you head South. WA has 3 Oceans around it, Southern, Indian, including the Pacific at the very top, it's a big place.

Very, very subjective ratings. It all depends on what phase of life you are in. For families, a more quieter beach would be helpful. For teenagers and young adults something like Scarborough beach is very appealing. For small kids something like Congee with its shark net would be best. So the ratings are very subjective and relative, nevertheless the video was helpful, thank you!

I'd like to take this opportunity to say: PLEASE can we have NUDE BEACHES in Perth? I've been on these all over Europe, where the beachgoers are intelligent people who mind their own business. However, this request might be a "non-starter" as people here are generally backward in their thinking. However, unlike in Europe, nude beaches here would probably have to be "sectioned off" with shadecloth & star pickets to form a barrier so that wowsers won't be "offended". THEY can have the use of the rest of the beaches, all 1000s of kms of these.
Yes, Swanbourne Beach. Has been so for half a century. Not sectioned off, don't like nudity - don't go there. Simple. (and not far from Cottesloe, a very popular beach.)
Swanbourne nudist beach is directly behind the Swanbourne rifle range. It used to get closed when the range was in use, but I don’t know what happens now

I'm more interested in judging the beaches, not the shops. 1. City Beach. 2. Sorrento 3. Mullaloo. 4. Leightons. 5. Cottesloe. 6. Scarborough. 7. South Beach 8. Floreat. 9. Trigg 10. Rockingham... All sandy beaches. But elsewhere there are good rocky bays. How about list some spots for swimming in the river.

WA coastline spans some +12,000kms and what you expored is only a tiny snippet. Our beaches are the best in the world.
When you live here in Perth depending on the month of the season you head to the beaches in the early morning before any sea breeze comes in unless your into windsurfing.
You can't arrive in WA and zip around in such a short timeframe - you need a 6mths to a year to expore this vast State properly or if travelling whe whole of Aust then at least a year

oh, no they did not, they mentioned Pinnaroo Point and this is exactly Whitfords Beach, they did not like "no caffee and too quiet" thing. They gave it only 6/10. Well they are young people and one just cannot have caffee everywhere, one needs a nice place with hardly any people there, not that it is crowded in Mullaloo. And to add there is always a coffee van park on the carpark that provides drinks icecream and snacks if one so desires, there are toilets and showers to wash off all the sand before getting in the car. I am local, just a stone throw away therefore I am very familiar with this beach. I walk there most of the mornings for a swim.

You missed Swanbourne Beach, the official Nudist Beach - located between Scarborough Beach and Cottesloe Beach ??? And only 8 for Cottesloe ?? Really, this is our Premier Beach and best for family swimming, nowhere near as lumpy as Scarborough and on the left hand side of the groyne is a very popular surfing area
Maybe we went there and didn’t film it… 🤔😂

It seems like having drone pilots shark spotting would be much more cost effective and practical than helicopter spotters. Maybe they do. What the heck do I know? I'm in Tennessee, fantasizing about moving to Australia.

For me, Cottesloe has always been a beach I never enjoyed going to. I moved to Doubleview in 1962 when I was 13.
Back then, Scarborough was the premier beach with 3 to 4 metre waves regularly rolling in, Luna Park and the beachfront shops.
Unforunately, the Snakepit was closed just a few weeks before I moved. Over those 63 years I've watched Scarborough get systematically destroyed.
The waves have now gone, Luna Park replaced by a shopping centre and to add insult to injury, a stupid swimming pool right on the beachfront.
In 1962 Trigg Point was Trigg Island and the groynes along the coast to stop erosion have had the oppostie effect, especially at City baech and Floreat.
The length of the groynes protruding into the ocean is now less than half. For me today, City Beach is the best beach with Trigg #2. But they don't compare to the beaches in the 60's.

I'm an island boy who grew up in the Philippines but now living 30 mins away from Frankfurt. I miss the sun and beaches. Seems like Perth is full of beautiful beaches perfect if you are looking for summer vibes. One thing, is Australia really infested with sharks?
Hi Drew! 👋🏼 Perth is definitely one of the best cities in Australia for that beach life vibe. But yes, there are always sharks in the waters. 99.9% of the time you don’t even know that they are there and they will leave you completely alone. But every now and then, there will be a shark attack. Fortunately some of the beaches actually have a shark net surrounding them, like Cottesloe, so you can swim freely! I guess most of the time its absolutely fine to swim in the open water, maybe just try and stay out of the waters during shark feeding times 😉
@@cjexplores Yeah i have seen a video of shark attack in Bondi beach last year, that was sad. That is a setback cause i like to swim and soak that crystal clear waters but I can't imagine a shark suddenly pops within reach. It would be reassuring atleast that all their beaches would have shark nets like Cottesloe. But again, i'd still love to see it for myself if i have time. I'll just stay on shallow waters anyway and i'll be fine🙂
@@drewjamila3868 you have to remember that shark attacks are extremely rare, the reason they make the news is because they are so terrifying! But you are much more likely to be in a plane crash or a car crash

@@drewjamila3868 we did at the time but can’t remember how that shop went down. There are hundreds of wrecks all along that stretch of coastline from the trading route that used to run along there. Fascinating history with the VOC (Dutch East India Trading Company)

Kings Park for a Perth sunrise, but Esperance is spectacular, that's 700km South of Perth overlooking the Southern Ocean. Perhaps the top of Bluff Knoll for a land view. For Perth sunsets, anywhere on any beach, from the top of Bold Park or the West End of Rottnest Island, but my favourite sunset spot near Perth is the top floor of a luxury hotel in Scarborough Beach, with lobster and champagne of course, and a MUST HAVE view to the West overlooking the Indian Ocean. Riding a camel on a sunset Cable Beach tour in Broome might be my all time favourite, but that is 2,400km up the coast. You have about 10,194 km of West Australian State coast to explore. Exmouth to swim with whale sharks, Ningaloo Reef is special. Anywhere around Coral Bay, they're all special, but don't go swimming when you go past Broome. When it's too hot for the North, there are magnificent beaches and surf spots, with the world's best wines, when you head South. WA has 3 Oceans around it, Southern, Indian, including the Pacific at the very top, it's a big place.

Very, very subjective ratings. It all depends on what phase of life you are in. For families, a more quieter beach would be helpful. For teenagers and young adults something like Scarborough beach is very appealing. For small kids something like Congee with its shark net would be best. So the ratings are very subjective and relative, nevertheless the video was helpful, thank you!

I'd like to take this opportunity to say: PLEASE can we have NUDE BEACHES in Perth? I've been on these all over Europe, where the beachgoers are intelligent people who mind their own business. However, this request might be a "non-starter" as people here are generally backward in their thinking. However, unlike in Europe, nude beaches here would probably have to be "sectioned off" with shadecloth & star pickets to form a barrier so that wowsers won't be "offended". THEY can have the use of the rest of the beaches, all 1000s of kms of these.

Swanbourne nudist beach is directly behind the Swanbourne rifle range. It used to get closed when the range was in use, but I don’t know what happens now
