Cats usually groom themselves when they are sure the place is secure. As a animal we are usually influenced by the judgement of others animals, may they be as the same specie of us or not. Secure place is relaxing. For furthers researches you can watch the "Snack man effect".
Someone a few years ago told me if you have bad anxiety attacks to watch a video of cats cleaning themselves. Either 2 things are gonna happen, 1- you absolutely hate the sound of them licking or 2- the sound triggers something in your brain to where it’s almost a natural “high” feeling you get in your head. I would of never in a million years believe this would work until I tried it…

You’d let the cat gnaw off your mosquito bite? You’d let the cat keep licking if you felt it burn? Have you all ever heard the expression “that goes without saying”? It suggest you don’t have to express something that is generally known.

Yeah, I'm no animal expert but doing this is normal for cats. And most animals out there. To relieve itching. Knots in their fur, but mostly bathing themselves, etc.
