Dear mami, thank-you so much for your wonderful Palakkad recipes. Thanks a lot to Vidya too. Though I live out of India I cook all possible Palakkad chamayal since my late father was from Kalpathy and my mother although is from Mumbai has origins in Kavassery and vadakkancheri. Pls continue your wonderful videos.
Please note - as Mami said - this is a special Kerala i.e. Malayalam dish. Not a Palakkad dish. Kerala Malayalam people primarily eat non - vegetarian (NV) & Onion - garlic (OG) based dishes on normal/ regular days. Only during functions like Onam & Vishu - NV dishes are avoided. But authentic Palakkad Brahmin dishes are always - no onion - no garlic! If I'm not mistaken then - they are the only group of people who can live without O & G. Not sure - maybe the Marwari Jain crowd too fall in this bracket. Many people confuse this issue - because Palakkad is in Kerala. Now - coz migration between states of India has become common over the past 30 years - everyone is flexible & adapts to their new lifestyle. Similarly, people from many parts of Tamilnadu are also non-vegetarian.
