    revisited this video again now that I am trying to master the harder CAGED barre chord shapes C, G, and D. They ARE hard and I am using Claus's excellent advice to hang in there on these finger busters

    I’ve been noodling for around 40 years. I can pick (right hand) as fast as anyone on one string, and fairly fast changing strings. My biggest holdback has been getting my left hand to be in perfect sync with my pick. When I start hitting faster licks, they just fall apart.

    As much as i am inspired by your teaching techniques I would be more inspired if i saw you playing with a band or actually listening to a piece of original music you have created... That is the ultimate goal of any musician

    You are an impressive educator Claus. I like how you always analyse every skill under a microscope and explain it all in way that's easy for a student to understand. All your courses are a worth investment for anyone wanting to learn the smart way ....Thank you for teaching for free too.
    I like the ergonomic guitar stand. It's a healthier option for the back and neck. Please share the brand and model if possible.

    It's very important that you identified how we will reduce, simplify our movements in order to accommodate faster picking.
    You have to practice at the edge of your abilities sometimes.
    Slow practice doesn't mean large, exaggerated movements.
    I think you can keep movements small when practicing slower

    Hey Claus, thanks for the insight! But I believe that in an earlier video, you said it's all about muscle memory and decreasing tension, that efficiency is not super important for developing speed

      @nc1969 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree, I hope Claus can clarify, because in previous videos he seemed to stress that it was, repetitions, that were key.
      What he is saying in this video does make alot of sense.

      @Avendabke 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it is practice and repetiton, but to get fast at speed picking, you need to practice speed picking, not slow picking fastly, if you know what I mean

    This is exactly why Yngwie Malmsteen barely moves his right hand. I noticed that very few players do that. I'd recommend trying to move the pick up and down with your thumb and index fingers. I'm not sure what the name of said technique is.

    ...now THAT was cool....it was almost like watching a magic show. It never occurred to me to actually reduce the action and intensity of my picking arm and hand.... and to pick slowly the way I would pick fast. Mastering that enables you to easily go from string to string even at super high speeds without hitting the other strings.... which is what I have been struggling with.....so now will be putting this into practice. Can you also do a segment on placing power chords into a solo?

    I have Claus' original alternating picking course and his relaunch of this course with additional licks. Claus did not introduce any new techniques from the original course to the relaunch of the course. Claus remains consistent with his methods. Slow and exam your technique and method then increase speed. Practice it 10k time slow, then 10k medium speed, and then when your brain has it down, and you perfected your technique then when you practice it fast for 10k times you will be a pro at high-speed alternate picking. Then comes synchronizing the left hand and learning a ton of highspeed licks, so you have something to play fast and sound good at it. Because play scales at high speed is not music. It is all about practicings, and if you don't practice, you won't get it. You have to be dedicated to practicing the material and not half-heartedly. Don't forget, we also have our physical limitations.

    I feel like my alternate picking is really good but I feel it could be better, I always have this notion that there's still something off with my up strokes but havnt been able to pinpoint what it is...maybe it's just in my head 😅. Great vid 👍

    I get all the less is more technique but o would like to see examples of what your talking about. I've already DL the course but I would also like to see how you go about a practice session rather than playing mindless scales. There's no better way to learn than copying someone until you get that Eureka moment. Its how we are taught by a teacher right,,.?. Copy them until we feel we can go further with different ideas.

      Exactly how I've learned. I study techniques on TH-cam and then change it to what has become my own style of playing. Your words were spot on. 🎸

    What about playing in time. Timing in general ? I see you playing a blues kind of lick only using upstrokes…. What about rhythmic patterns. How to play uptempo with a shuffle/jazz or funk/latin or rock/blues feel ? How to play melodic patterns with all sorts of arpeggios ? When should it be up or down in regard to where you are in the beat ?
    You should be able to speed up a lick or melodic/rhythmic scale pattern on all six strings from extremely slow to fast with no transition using a metronome or drumbeat while keeping your left and right hand in sync and if necessary real time adjusting your picking technique or motion.
    Where to play on the string, more on the bridge side or more towards the neck and the difference in tone and feel.
    Maybe even a slight rotating movement of the pick playing up and down.
    Eventually it's all about playing in a band and to be able to play what is necessary, slow or fast, with a good understanding of time, groove, feel, dynamics, phrasing and musical solutions when playing over a chord progression in any given time signature and tempo.

    I think it would be great to have videos about how to make money as a guitarist. Money is certainly not the driving force for most of us on guitar, but knowing there's ways to gain cash with these abilities would be a massive boost in a guitar players moral, and skill.

    Whenever Claus demonstrates his fast picking motion, it’s rotation, but slow the video down to 25% and watch his forearm, there is no rotation at all. The wrist can’t rotate, it can only move sideways and up/down. If his forearm doesn’t rotate, there’s no way the picking is a rotating movement.
