Some backstory of "Mr. Ambiguous", it was originally written in English by Kim Do Hoon & it was called "Mamamoo". RBW co-CEO Kim Do Hoon gave some insights into the history of MAMAMOO as well as recent events while talking to news outlet Star News. (January 2019)
In the interview, Kim Do Hoon talked about how before MAMAMOO was formed, his goal was to produce artists that would be talented at singing and good at having fun on stage. They then chose artists from their pool of trainees who were ready at the time, and formed a girl group. “I thought that the success rate for groups was higher than that of solo singers, and it was easy to create the group as we’d been training them since the beginning as a group,” he explained.
He shared that there had been nine trainees at the time, and they’d cut the number down through evaluations. He said, “I had an image in my head, and we selected the members while evaluating based on that standard, which is how MAMAMOO was created. Ah, this is something that I’m saying for the first time. To be honest, MAMAMOO was a five-member group instead of a four-member group. They had five members right before their debut, but one member left after saying she’d find another path, so they became a four-member group.”
Kim Do Hoon also talked about the group’s name and debut track “Mr. Ambiguous.” He said, “We did a performance at the after party for Quincy Jones’s concert when he performed in Korea in 2013. The girl group that had five members at the time performed there. I’d just made a song for Quincy Jones, but the song’s name was ‘MAMAMOO.’ After that, one of our agency staff members suggested just using ‘MAMAMOO’ as their group name, and so that’s how their current name was chosen. Also the lyrics in the song ‘MAMAMOO’ were changed to Korean and became their debut track ‘Mr. Ambiguous.'”
The various people that are shown throughout the MV were all brought on by Kim Do Hoon, either as a favor for him &/or he "called in" some favors. But, Kim Do Hoon is massively respected within the SK Kpop Industry. However, some have fallen out of favor with majority of the fans (in general) for various scandals. They are/were K-pop industry figures such as:
- CNBLUE's Jonghyun
Everyone but the girls were in on the prank that was being played on them by Baek Ji-young. Also, iirc, the male that you heard calling Solar & asking what she thought of Baek Ji-young's acting, was Kim Do Hoon but I could be mistaken. Though, she does reveal the truth about practically majority of the groups & solo artists [& not just in SK], 99% don't actually sing during their MV's, they'll lip sync [unless it's an MV from a concert performance]. Which was what she was referring to when she answered the question of "Shall we sing live?" with "No, no... Don't! No one does that in these places, you'll lose your voice!". The problem with that suggestion is that MMM actually sucks [their own admittance] at lip-syncing. Also why (tmk) they actually will sing live for their MV's.

Darf ich ehrlich sein? Irgendwie weiß ich nicht ganz, was ich von diesem „Wir machen einen Livestream und laden dann alle Videos noch mal hoch“ halten soll. Versteht mich nicht falsch, es ist toll, dass ihr Live-streams macht, hab mir selbst schon einen angesehen, aber gerade wenn man die schon gesehen hat, muss Tage auf was Neues warten. Und selbst wenn man es noch nicht gesehen hat, ist man vielleicht kein Fan von dem Künstler und kann dann auch tagelang warten, dass mal ein wenig Abwechslung reinkommt. Finde ich etwas schade. 🙈
Man ist halt einfach morgens aufgewacht und hat sich gefragt „Auf wen reagiert er denn heute?“ und diese Frage bleibt einfach tagelang aus, weil niemand Neues drankommt. 🙈

Mamamoo already sounded like they were Kpop veterans in their debut song; they were all amazing from the beginning, and got better over time.
Superion74 A common occurrence on Immortal Songs was that the judges would think they were a veteran group when they’d only been around a year or two.
They were so good even at the debut MV, they have to be made fun of not good singing live and debate whether they should do it since nobody does it... LOL

They are real moomoos😍😍 i've saw a lot of reactions to mamamoo but they are the only one that make reaction video to mamamoo the most. I mean they regularly upload a video of mamamoo after 2 video of another singer, and they even remember their name.
I agree, they feel so genuine! Another MooMoo reactor I've seen lately is Reece Aaron, he is a filmmaker so he gave perspective mostly from film production, which is nice

First of all thank you so much for reacting to MAMAMOO. But please allow me to tell you some information about that song Mr. Ambiguous. This is kinda long but i promise this will help you understand the whole thing so I hope you read this.
Mamamoo have debuted with an impressive track after a small handful of digital teaser singles. Their debut comes in the form of Mr. Ememoho, otherwise known as Mr Ambiguous.
The name Mamamoo comes from the word mama, one of the first most meaningful and intimate words a baby will say, and represents the meaningful and intimate music they want to make for the world.
The lyrics are what you would expect, of a man who is hard to read, they cannot be sure if he
is interested, hence being called Mr Ambiguous.
The mv features a whole host of other stars appearing as staff of Mamamoo.
First we see Bumkey featuring as a member of their chorus. Bumkey featured on one of Mamamoo’s pre-debut tracks, Don’t Be Happy.

Young singer songwriter, and We Got Married star Jung Joon Young features as runner staff, somewhat enchanted by the girls.
CNBLUE’s Lee Jong Hyun plays both Mr Ambiguous, and a little less surprisingly, the guitar player for the video.
Video director is Wheesung, feature artist on their pre-debut track Peppermint Chocolate. (Should check that song as well cause it's really good and I think you'll like it)
Stills photographer for the girls is K.Will, whom featured on their pre-debut track Peppermint Chocolate alongside Wheesung.
Director of photography is BrandNew Music CEO and rapper, Rhymer.
Producer is Baek Ji Young, and it is Baek that provides part of the narrative for the mv. All the staff having conducted the shoot and it coming to an end the established solo artist talks with the girls about their performance, displaying her disappointment to the shock of the girls, but all is well when she reveals her prank.
Many of the big stars featured in the mv have links with Mamamoo through their management and production.
Their producer is Kim Do Hoon (RBW's Co-CEO and MMM's Producer), known for working with top artists such as CNBLUE, IU and Wheesung. The group is signed to RBW Entertainment(Formerly known as WA Entertainment), home of Geeks, but also the company that works in conjunction with Rhymer’s to distribute groups like PHANTOM.
Mr Ambiguous has a 60's retro feel, with vibrant popping colors and throwback fashion such as mini dresses and bold graphic prints.
Mr Ambiguous is a strong debut from Mamamoo, and right on trend with what is hot in K-pop right now.
That song of MAMAMOO is considered as one of the best debuts In K-pop and is basically a ''MUSICIANS MADE BY MUSICIANS'' as what the experts call.

Moonbyul also looks different because of the makeup as well as the hair. If you look at the eyelinerin this video it's the Korean popular "puppy" liner, continuing downwards. Nowadays her signature eye makeup is usually stronger and bronzy, with double-tailed eyeliner going upwards on the upper lashline and lower lid tail straight out in a softer way, mostly brown eyeshadow. I hope I described it well.

Yes, that's their original concept, but then as you can hear, their concept is not always retro, they literally tried everything. This one is one of my favs, I mean listen to that vibrato, harmony, vocals, it's soooo great. And that ending part, Solar really doing great 😎
