I tell all the TH-cam farmers this I cannot give you enough thanks for what you do Farmers are the heart and soul of country. You will forever have my support and respect.
You all do a really nice job caring for you cattle. We had issues with rain in September and October here near the Ozarks. A large amount of rain came over a two day period that caused a lot of wash, about 15 1/2" during a 48 hour period, Nov. 4th and 5th. That was a near disaster for all the roads and fields, gravel and debris washed in our fields. Oh well, we just have to make the best of a bad situation, like you all are doing! Thanks for sharing, I hope you get some moisture that will help, have a good night!
I like your new compost bins. Big enough to hold all the winter muck. Great to get some rain. We need some down here in North Canterbury New Zealand too. Your vlogs are always a great watch, thank you!👍
Some might see the drenching treatment as cruel but you are taking care of these animals the best you can. Yea they are not pets but they are your livelihood and you have a huge investment in them. Hats off to y’all taking proper care of your animals! God bless our farmers!!!
At the farm I work at we drench the cows with the glycol and water mixed with dry alfalfa meal for ketosis and for milk fever cows we drench them with calcium or niacin
We just had three or four days of steady light rain and it was nice to see all of the moisture go into the soil to help things over the winter. Seems it went down there for you. Great video, thanks.
@@RiDankulous It will help since they’ve been so dry. Plus with them still being warmer, there will be additional plant establishment and growth to increase yield next spring. 👍
So we farm in Colorado, where the bird flu was horrible. I would keep a close eye on your herd because those signs started off when we had the bird flu. My prayers go out to you that you guys don’t get it. Love your content
Glad to see the Kubota skid steer still running good. I know farming fixing and fabrication channels have had a lot of problems with their Kubota skid steers.
May you succeed in your endeavors. Hobby farming with an off farm job removes some risk allowing me a hobby that I wish for in my cubicle. I hope you prosper and live the dream I strive for. Only 37 more years until retirement.
Largest Holstein that I ever sold weighed 2195 pounds. She always had to be in the back stall of the herringbone parlor, and we just left the back gate open because she didn't fit. Never was a problem standing there. Great video, and the mild ketosis is a curious thing.🤔
I have watched other Farm channels that give a large Calcium pill and 5 Gal. of warm water right after giving birth....Seems to work out really, really well.
you askede what more you can do :) Vitamin b is also good for ketose as i helps the cow liver deal with it and some Dinalgen for pain if they are cold in Denmark it is 0 days on milk and 2-4 days on the meat
Hi Eric. From here in England would love to see a short clip/video of the market where you take your cows. We love your videos and jealous of your weather
Hopefully you will take us to the sale barn and see a few of your calves sell. The farmers around here go to catch up with other farmers and the sale barn always has the best cheeseburgers 😊
We have good luck with a product called Revive here in Canada on cows that are off feed, sick, surgery etc etc etc. it comes as a bolus or powder for tmr inclusion. Probiotic. Helps with restoring rumen bugs and appetite. I’d look for it. Also a Neo formula for calves we mix with their milk.
We drench them with linseeds that were soaking over night in hot water in a (2-5kg linseed in a bucket). Next day drench it with Calcium, a buffer and yeast product. We use 30-40 Liters in an old calf feeder to drench them with a dirt water pump. Safes a bunch of them.
There you go Eric. The herd health part of this video was fascinating to me. Folks need to know it’s more to it than feeding, milking and shoveling that liquid money the cows leave on the floor.
Hey Eric I love watching your videos very informative. I live in central Illinois and we have quite a few ethanol plants around here. Have you ever thought about feeding DDG’s or wet cake? Just a thought. Thanks
Ive seen good success with adding about 3/4 a pound of alfalfa meal to the 5 gallons of water and electrolytes. Rumination response on smaxtec is usually very noticeable.
Wondering if you have sweeper attachment for skid steer to keep feeder paths clean of dirt rocks and snow, could even put deicer spreader on skid steer do whole job in one go. Good luck 👍
Do you give your animals magnets to avoid hardware? We give all our heifers magnets at their first breeding but those “ I’m not sure what’s wrong with this one” we give a second magnet.
Hey Eric. Thanks for yet another interesting vid. @10thgenerationdairyman61 i had a thought whilst watching your skid steer 'bucket' yardscrape. you have scraper made tractor tyre carcass. why not get cpl sidewall from other large tyres and bolt them like "wings" to the bucket edges? Objective is scrape really close to obsructions without smashing or harsh collision, tet strong and flexible. a bit of thought and a few bolts, and the 'wings' can fold or hinge out of the way whilst permanently attached. fold down for scraping. fold away bucket work.
Do the boluses give anything more than temp and rumination that would help with the diagnosis of disease? Are there any updated models of the boluses that do offer more info or software updates that can be downloaded to you current model? Possibly a new model that can placed and the old model disabled?
Internal bleeding maybe a little tear in the uterus can drop temperature. Hunched over, lack of appetite is also a sign that all is not well in the gut/breeding department
With the ammonium sulfate do you have to lime with manure being applied? I love sulfate but it sucks the life out of my soil. It will drop my PH by 1.5points or more every year. Lime isn’t cheap anymore like it used to be.
We like to use it because it helps keep our pH down. I don't know if it's the limestone soil or the quarry nearby but we actually deal with ph being too high more than low.
Your always so good to the cows. Love watching your channel. God Bless you all.
I tell all the TH-cam farmers this I cannot give you enough thanks for what you do Farmers are the heart and soul of country. You will forever have my support and respect.

Things seem to be moving along nicely, Erik. Not having to mix and put out feed must be quite a time saver for you and Dad. Cheers 🇨🇦
In the last video the overhead door lift chain breaking might be due to weight springs need adjusting. You're a hard working, smart young man 😎
Some might see the drenching treatment as cruel but you are taking care of these animals the best you can. Yea they are not pets but they are your livelihood and you have a huge investment in them. Hats off to y’all taking proper care of your animals! God bless our farmers!!!
Those skidsteers seem to be one of the unsung heroes of the whole operation! Very good real video.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving holiday.
Wishing you all a happy and prosperous Thanksgiving from Oklahoma.
5:20 She looks like she's not feeling well! Wow, poor girl.
She is doing a lot better since this video thankfully
Glad to see yall got some moisture!
HI from Indiana
you do a better job than most in explaining the whats and whys, really enjoy your channel.
THANKYOU for another GREAT video, Eric.
You are a Legend!
Blessings from Australia....❤

Eric, you’re an excellent doctor. Could be a DVM. But you do the job of a vet.

Your videos are great and explain well

We need to name the robots. They are now your new elite employees so they deserve a name
One should be R2 and the other D2.
@@1ponsford😂
Yes. Robi and Mobi- how's that for starters ?
Thing1 and Thing2. 👍
Or let's not anthropomorphize inanimate objects. I'm sure the software has an ID for them. That's what I would use.
Or Gort and Marvin.
excellent video!

To cows ketos, add your silage feed mix propylen, vitamins and sele n more. That helps.
Always enjoy seeing your videos much love and respect thanks for sharing ❤❤❤
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 Eric to you and tour Dad snd families! Thanks for all the cool videos!
Great video brother from the imperial county ca 🚜🚜🇺🇲🇺🇲
You know i watch several different farmers on TH-cam but yours is the only one I always wait for anxiously
Haha
Have you watched "How farms work" from WI, or "Cole the Cornstar" from IA ?
Excellent video

Have you thought of maybe getting a brush attachment for a skid steer to clean the routes for the feeders this winter.
How are the solar panels working on the barn?
All good!

that girl is a massive mama jama its sad to see her go but what a beautiful cow
I think you also have pressure wash once in while
Looking good Eric, hope you get some rain.

They used to have that but changed it.
@@shermdog6969 the tractor carcass or the flappy wing thing?
Happy thanksgiving from Raleigh, NC!!
Robot’s names: R2D2 and C-3PO!
Snow is on its way. ❤❤❤❤
Good information very interesting.
I thought long and hard and came up with the perfect names for the robot feeders. Eric and Eric's dad😅
Good morning Thanks for the video Eric Happy Thanksgiving your family?
That’s a serious drench system 5 gallons a dose 🍻
Reassure (sp) in the dry cow diet
❤❤VIDEO ❤❤ another great episode ❤❤
A video idea would be timelapse’s with a camera mounted on different parts of the Lely feeding robots showing a full cycle of feeding.
Check ketones with small blood sample
Have you tried a selenium mineral block to help with your ketosis problems?
I am curious how you tell if you've gone down the esophagus or the trachea with the drench pump, or aspirin dispenser?
Do the boluses give anything more than temp and rumination that would help with the diagnosis of disease? Are there any updated models of the boluses that do offer more info or software updates that can be downloaded to you current model? Possibly a new model that can placed and the old model disabled?
Awesome video Eric 🚜🚜🚜
Do you have to cover the robots when it rains to keep moisture out of the feed?
We had a 1st lactation cow like that. She made it over 800 dim and 80,000. Our record cow was 1200 dim
Wow
What is next? An automatic alley scraper?
What are the Angus calfs bringing in your area. Thanks 👍
$800
Eric, you requested topics to cover, when you’re working with the cows I’d like you to tell us the breeding of that cow.Cheers 🇦🇺
The s-word! Huh. Where I am in upstate NY, still haven't got any. It's predicted for Thanksgiving tho. Of course.
Good video! Do you use the boluses for heat detection or are all cows put on a sync program?
We use a sinc program but catch some repeat breeds on the boluses
6:30. Kinda late !!! Robots are letting you sleep in !!! Lol
That giant cow!,,,
i love watching your videos while playing FS25 good stuff
Internal bleeding maybe a little tear in the uterus can drop temperature. Hunched over, lack of appetite is also a sign that all is not well in the gut/breeding department
Are you feeding rumensin or reassure to your Dry cows or pre fresh?
Yes we are
What do you do with a cow that has died?
I love milk!
@ PA soil is kinda sandy isn’t it? I bought some equipment west of Reading PA and there soil was sandy.
Interesting. How much AMS do you typically apply to get a pH drop of 1.5? We can never drop that much with of 8+ pH.
Wot temp is ur bolus giving for a low
Love your robot feeders that’s pretty cool. They run 24 hours a day?
Yes they do
Thanks for another video. Do you think the bird problem might have something to do with the sick cows. Happy Thanksgiving!
I've seen cows get hardware or a twisted stomach and act ketotic.
I stay in ketosis all the time but that's pretty interesting how a herbivore gets there. That can't be good.
When are you going to show how the robot scrapers are doing
In humans, propylene glycol is used to clear your bowels before colonoscopies
What happened to the robot scrapers that you had before that used to do that for you
Ok, I'll throw the first couple names out there for the robots....
R2D2 and CP30 I know, I know...
But it's the best i could come up with....
Have yall checked for bird flu?
When the owners away, the robots will play!!! I just made that up
Definition of a Farmer: A Mechanic with a serious gardening hobby.
When you guys take your cows away you take them to butcher or do you just sell them to other Farmers just curious about that?
Eric, why not separate the sick ones from the other vows. Hope your whole family a Happy Thanksgiving Day .
lol that wafflestomp at 1:30
The cow you drenched looked plenty fat for a fresh animal. Might be whats causing the ketosis as well?
