    Thank you for devoting a whole video to this. I haven't run into any instances where I've needed any aquafers yet, but it's only a matter of time... so it's notice to have this guide when the time comes.

    Thanks so much for this guide! My fortress has lost two miners trying different ways of getting through a heavy aquifer - this slower technique for the second layers is exactly what I was missing.

    Not done with this video yet, I know it'll be good. Dude, the sheer amount of content you have is amazing. I love this game, rimworld, and going medieval. There's something to be said about figuring it out yourself. But with kids and traveling work, it's nice to get some good knowledge outside of when I can actually play.

    Really like this video. I'm loving all the love that this game is getting :D
    A few comments:
    You can show/hide numbers in liquids from the # symbol on the minimap (top right).
    You can smooth walls instead of building walls, but you need some type of stone (in your case your two levels were sand and dirt, so you need to build walls)
    The Pump can pump from more than one tile at the time. So instead of moving your pump on your second level, you can make the slit 3 squares and place de pump in the middle. That pump will pump from the 3 squares and not from 1.

      So you don't need to construct walls, but only need to smooth the aquifer tiles surrounding your stairs?

    9:39 There's a button next to the overview map (a yellow hashtag symbol over a green and blue background) that will toggle showing numeric liquid levels on and off. I believe there's also a hotkey for it.

    What if I want to not dig **through** an heavy aquifer, but I want to dig OUT a heavy aquifer? E.g. my room is 20x20 and it overlaps with 200+ heavy aquifer tiles. Is it possible to 'drain' them or is there more to it?

    • @Latronibus
      @Latronibus ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are three possibilities there. First there is no stockpile the farms can use that can hold the seeds (both in terms of its rules and in terms of having space). Second is because you cooked them. Eating them raw and brewing them both return seeds, cooking them does not. So because you rely on them for booze, you need to tell the kitchen to not use plump helmets. Third is a shortage of empty bags to put the seeds into, those are needed in order to actually plant the seeds.

    What a pain in the arse, I'd definitely make mistakes doing this. Personally I'd just try to keep the heavy aquifers to the corners of your embark, so you can tap them for power or water if you want, or ignore them if you don't.

    • @Ic0nGaming
      @Ic0nGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gabriellabelle3915 I can only assume, but my guess is as follows: Once the Water level is effectively above 1, you cannot construct on a tile anymore. I assume that Heavy Aquifer walls have kind of an "invisible water level" higher than 1. Or i just did misclick that moment and went away with a false positive. Gonna give it another look the other day. Cause smoothing would definitely be way less of a pain.

    Aquifers almost made me uninstall the game. There's like 2% of the map that don't have aquifers and they tend to be real crappy spots to camp in. I didn't want to install a mod to get rid of them because it's a part of the game's function. I also know that they're your only reliable source of water unless you camp next to a river.
    I'm glad that this guide exists, though it kinda sucks that the game necessitates such a lengthy and complex process. And they're kind of unavoidable, really. Every fort I've tried to make in the past 20 hours has run into an aquifer layer (or multiple) starting at like... two levels under the surface.

    • @Ic0nGaming
      @Ic0nGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Light Aquifers are quite easy to handle, heavy aquifers are literally made in hell. You can acquire water also without a river, by tapping into underground cavern water. That's an option for every map afaik.
