    • @Omar_Al_Seddik
      @Omar_Al_Seddik 2 ปีที่แล้ว +188

      That's definitely true. This boss has incredible stagger resistance so the spirits that have very high stagger values weren't able to make their true strength shine here.
      Still, Lhutel the Headless is the best overall performer in my opinion. High melee damage output, a shield, great poise, fade out ability, and a ranged option.

      Couldn't agree more that the boss-type matters. I killed the dragon in the lakes by putting Latenna on a rock and she kept sniping him wherever he went. Lhutel the headless meanwhile did nothing but teleport back and forth doing nothing since the dragon just flies everywhere.

    • @EmperorSigismund
      @EmperorSigismund 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Very much the case. If the enemy can be staggered or stunned I found the marionette soldiers to be absolute stagger machines with the amount of arrows they pump out. Meanwhile the greatshield soldiers get destroyed by bosses with aoe nova attacks but I watched let them solo a lot of weaker bosses that I missed earlier in the game.

      @@Omar_Al_Seddik the problem I found with luthel on my mage build was that bosses often lost aggro on her and would start targeting me because of her blink ability.
      She can tank a lot of damage but her damage output isn't that high. Her blink backfires on the players. Imo not the best for distracting bosses.
      PS. I got luthel after watching this video and thus my assesment.

      Actually, the player moved behind them causing the projectile to hit the summon, and it wasn't the only time they did this. I hate it when that happens in co op; some other player is being targeted, they roll towards me, and the tracking causes the attack to land on me when it would have otherwise whiffed. Thx alot

    • @OsirisGrimoire
      @OsirisGrimoire 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TheNecroFisherman didn't notice rollo dodged too since the animation is a subtle sidestep. But the distance he traveled wouldn't have intercepted the projectile if it weren't for the player dodging towards them. Don't know if the player was doing this intentionally (since they do it multiple times) but it kinda messes up the demonstration since its forcing the spirit to tank more hits than its meant to. In a real fight the summon and the player are constantly dividing the enemy's attention, allowing the one not being targeted to recover or go on the offensive. If the person holding aggro constantly puts other teammates in the line of fire, it takes away the advantage of their numbers

      Watching them here I'm happy I brought them to +10. They brought down health right up there with the best of them but they drew massive agro. If you watch this simply looking at damage meters you'd think luhtel was the best, but he wasn't nearly as good of an agro draw. One thing I learned from watching this is how much I messed up this first playthrough by disrupting the dungeater quest prematurely. He was BY FAR the best agro draw. So you can apply great stars passive heal on hit + Prayerful stike + heal for hit talisman (forgot the name) and I can have my mimic survive massive attacks while maintaining their healthbar at the same time after the nerf. Plus it adds hyperarmor so you'll need to get quite a beating to get knocked out of that move.

      Tbh compared to my mimic this one sucks. Mimics are best with either extremely high dps equipment (dual bleed katanas for example) or with weapons that can heal them like a prayerful strike. My main run was a high vigor, high endurance, and high dex build focused on dual wielding katanas and heavy armour. Me and my mimic absolutely ripped through the late game. Just like with the standard ones, I went ahead and did a base damage chart. Now, with this list there are some very weird cases. Like the mimic being a duplicate of yourself, meaning it'll scale differently than everything else, and Perfumer and Finger Maiden constantly healing making it hard to get a good read on damage. Just like last time, this can't really take into account any special-type damage(bleeds/poison/etc), or if they have another type of attack they could do if they weren't the main target. But this should be a good starting place especially for mages or archers. I couldn't tell for sure because I haven't used any of these, but I'm pretty sure none technically regenerate after dying, some just heal, so I didn't include that stat. Please let me know if anything looks wrong.

    Dung Eater will always be my favorite spirit summon. That blood loss sneaks up on enemies man, and is pretty helpful for arcane bleed builds. Plus he's tanky because of his armor and he reduces enemy resistances in an area with the Sword of Milos. Nothing to scoff at. His curse projectile is okay, I guess. All in all, he provides reliable support in a fight and is a great summon.

    One thing to note is that a lot of the spirits that die quickly actually deal a lot of damage, if you take aggro off of them then they are still just as viable. Its just that the ones that can solo bosses are obviously better.

    • @Chris____.
      @Chris____. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Nah. The only exception is 8:13 Latenna the Archer; even then she would only be viable IF youre playing a full Agro Tank Build.
      You cant tell me that, the rest of them (that die fast but deal "damage") are actually biable if you take aggro. When Summons like 19:30 Luther The Headless and 23:13 Black Knife Tiche quite literally solo enemies while tanking **exists.** Like 5:48 Bloodhound Knight Floh is an embarasment.

    • @jonp1952
      @jonp1952 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@Chris____. Bloodhound Knight is probably meant for enemies with less poise and likely deals bleed damage, which he did not get off from this fight. That bleed damage would be a big factor in his damage output if he has it(the bloodhound knight you can fight near the beginning of the game has bleed damage). Being constantly staggered into the ground due to not having as much poise is the reason he had a problem getting his bleed off and dealing damage. Spirits all seem situational depending on the enemies you're facing and that bloodhound knight is no exception. Also I should mention Lhutel the Headless wasn't tanking damage the majority of that fight, but avoiding it by teleporting all over the place. It's definitely stronger than Floh in terms of tanking ability, which leads to it being better in this instance, but like I said, it was avoiding a lot of hits in that fight by teleporting around. Had it been hit as much as Floh, it definitely wouldn't have lasted as long as it did, and again, Floh didn't get the bleed off that would have made it's damage better.

    • @connorshaw7649
      @connorshaw7649 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @@Chris____. If you look at the headless and black blade fights, those two DON'T actually "tank" very well in the traditional sense. "Tanking" as a suport role is about more than just surviving hits, it's also about ensuring your allies DON'T draw unwanted attacks. As stated by other comments, due to Headless's teleporting and Black Blade's hit and run style the player ends up taking most of the aggro. Also it should be noted that their fights were amongst the longest, meaning although they did more damage all up it was partially because it took the boss longer to kill them (though holy crap Tiche has some wild burst damage, not sure why the boss kept getting health back for her fight). The two of them periodically draw aggro for short durations, but this may not be preferrable for DPS players who want more regular openings to get off their attacks. In this sense even the jellyfish *could* be considered a better tank for a heavily DPS oriented player because of its high health pool and regularly timed, high aggro attacks (1-2 hits is enough to get most enemies attention I find). Not to crap on Either Tiche or Lhutel. They're epic, but saying that they're the "only viable" spirits because they can "almost solo" enemies is a gross oversimplification of how spirits are used. The player's style factors into what summons are the most useful.
      As another example, let's talk about Floh. I can confirm what Jon P has said. Floh is a poor match up for this boss, especially without support. He's somewhat frail, easily staggered, and requires escape windows to get out of enemy combos. Ideally you would keep switching aggro to give him a chance to do his job. You do some damage, then back off to recover stamina/heal/chug FP juice while floh jumps in. They trade, Floh maybe gets staggered, but it's okay because now you're back in there. You get the boss' attention and Floh teleports back out to avoid potential collateral damage from any wide range sweeping or AoE attacks. Then he jumps back in (hopefully from behind if you're luring the boss right). Once he has a chance to get a few actual attacks off his value becomes apparent. His stagger and bleed are actually really good when you don't let him get stunlocked. If you're using him chances are you want to end fights quickly, so his low health pool becomes less of a concern. Even if he dies the boss should be on extremely low health and well within the range of finishing solo.
      Of course, all this changes against "zoning" bosses who try to wall you out with projectiles. This is where Floh TRULY shines. Used him at only +3 against second stage Rennala today. His movement speed and constant aggression meant that she couldn't even build distance, and his stagger meant she couldn't get off anything except her quickest attacks, and even then she ended up on her ass before she could finish half the time. And this was with me playing super passively (I didn't know her moveset so I was just feeling the fight out). Once I realised Floh wasn't going to let her breathe I just ran forward and it became a curb stomp with added bleed procs (as if her day wasn't already bad enough). I only found out later that she had the whole "summoning ash" gimmick when my brother told me about it. It was over so quickly she never got the chance to so much as call a wolf pack.
      This is just one example. While some summons truly are jokes (looking at you Noble Sorcerer), the vast majority are at least viable in a good number of fights, and truly shine under the right circumstances.
      EDIT: Upon rewatching, Lhutel's damage was a bit higher than I thought. I can see now why she's considered one of the most generally powerful spirits. My point about the aggro still stands though.

    If you're going to use Latenna (which I did for much of the game), you need to summon her while as far away as possible. She has extreme range, and her arrows have homing. Of course she dies if you drop her right in front of the enemy. She's great against Astel.

    So much fun to watch. The 'which one should I use' questions is relative to play style and this is a great example of what they offer. If you're tanky and hold aggro, use a ranged if you want, especially if the enemy is prone to magic/poison/arrow damage. Lots of good ranged or group-mob options to pelt away at health while you sword and board. Use the aggro trinket behind a good shield and with even non-elite spirits and something like the wolves, rot hound, those damned wandering nobles or whatever and they might be in a whole other league, nibbling away while you shout Taunt, Rend and Stomp (wait wut). A mage/incantation type might find a tanky one like Lhutel or the other melee, heavy armor types or BKT very effective at keeping the enemy at range and doing their thing. Distance = safety. Sometimes. Especially since most bosses (Malenia included) will focus on the last thing that hit her. I mean them. Otherwise you can't really go wrong with the mimic, Lhutel and BKT in just about any situation tho from my playthrough so far! They're great fun. Although in my Malenia fight, the mimic did die the two times I tried it, it doesn't flask heal like it did pre-patch. BKT walked out of the fight with me tho and held her own the whole time and did copious amounts of damage. She's my current favorite. Lhutel is probably also a great pick for that one, that would be fun to see. The bleed builds and probably some super heavy hitting spell casters I imagine lean Mimic still, they don't need to heal, everything just stops being on the screen especially when there's two trains of magic energy crashing at the intersection of The Boss and Winning.

So in light/medium armor, it's definitely worth it but if it halves your dmg negations you may want to avoid it in heavy armor. At that point it'd be taking like 25% dmg negation away from you, and that's gonna make you take considerably more dmg.

    Leaving aside Mimic Tear, Lhutel is clearly the strongest ash, which is crazy since IIRC you can get her fairly early. The combination of the greatshield and the teleport gives her a fair amount of endurance, and the damage is good too.
    Mimic Tear is easily the best spirit though, and it isn't close - with the caveat that it depends entirely on your own build. If your own build is good, Mimic Tear is easily capable of soloing... honestly most bosses you can summon it for. Joining in on the fray just makes it hilariously overpowered. If your build sucks though, Mimic Tear is basically useless.
    As a hint: have an incantation seal in the offhand and a healing spell slotted. The mimic tear will use it!

    latemma is my fav ash, but since she never moves, it would be in the best interest to find a sniping spot that the enemy can't reach and then call her.
    One time, I cast her REALLY far from the battle and kept the boss in the middle between her and I, focusing on me.
    There's a stone mask pendant that draw enemy aggression and that works wonders.

    The mimic is probably the best, but that depends entirely on YOUR build, as whatever you're using will transfer over to the mimic, including consumables and spells, and the mimic gets unlimited of these items as well as unlimited FP to use these spells. Personally i'm a tank sorcerer, using the golden shield from the grafted scion with the Barricade ash of war, makes the mimic basically impossible to stagger or damage with any regular physical attack, and access to several high cost, high damage spells will make it genuinely useful in any fight against bosses that don't have heavily damaging effects, such as bleed. My mimic died a single time and it was on a boss that used bleed weapons, bleed abilities and two annoying dogs that, i think, also caused bleed.

      You can actually make the mimic even more broken with items like raw meat dumpling and aromatics. Raw meat dumpling heals 50% hp but gives poison, which does not effect mimic so it just gets free hp, uplifting aromatic can buff atk and give a 90% dmg reduction for 30s,which mimics will use to buff you as well

    I like how Mimic's strength and weakness is based on the host itself. It copies all weapon and skill/magic equipped so you can design him however you want based on your image. Equip high risk high reward spells that you normally wouldn't use midfight and it would use it too.

      Does it also copy stats? As in if you equip say a big ass sword and shield, but you yourself don't have the str/dex to properly wield them or roll quickly, will the mimic also suffer from the same issues? Or will it be able to wield the weapons with out issue?

    • @jahredharrison4069

      @@Nozerone I don't personally know the specifics, but I have at least seen it try to single hand wield a greataxe which I could only two hand at the time, but it's possible it wasn't actually using it effectively.

    • @SmootherThanSilk
      @SmootherThanSilk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nozerone Yes, it copies your gear, stats, spells, items, weaknesses, everything really. So if you cannot wield a weapon properly, it also cannot. I don't know if it can heal through flasks (as I don't have it yet), but it can heal itself through spells and it uses weapon arts as well. Talismans also likely affect it.

    Stormhawk Deenh did surprisingly well considering he's primarily a support summon who buffs the player. Latenna the Albinauric can't move or tank, but she provides godlike DPS if you set her down far away from the boss and keep the aggro off her.

    Summons are easily the best thing to use in this game in my opinion. Most are better to use than actual other players, do to how much less damage you do to bosses with just a second player helping.
