    As a seamstress, most of the linings that don't add anything visually are added due to modesty concerns or extra comfort due to the feel of the outer layer. Especially the mini linings in long skirts. If you're not bothered by the item being see through or potentially uncomfortable, or you're going to work around that via styling you can 100% remove these. Most clothing items are not made with an artistic intent behind them anyway and are instead mass produced to be eye catching. If someone put enough thought and love into it looking a certain way it wouldn't have a cheap and unimaginative lining that subtracts from the beauty of the garment.

    • @Bee-ne4qo
      @Bee-ne4qo ปีที่แล้ว +84

      I prefer to dress modestly because of my Christian faith but the thing is that mini skirt underneath isn't suitable its still too short to be modest so waste of time really. Also even the longest dresses have slits up to the top of the thigh sometimes its like why. I am trying to be a part of society not flash everyone everyday 😂 but oh well now I go buy an extra skirt to buy underneath but it has to match.

    • @jonahandthewolf
      @jonahandthewolf ปีที่แล้ว +125

      @@Bee-ne4qo it would be nicer if they put a white or nude lining under that's actually the length of the skirt, in my opinion 😅

      @@Bee-ne4qoI love the wear modest clothing because it's just so much more comfortable and practical.
      I just cannot be bothered pulling at skirt, hoisting up pants, watching how I stand, sit, walk and move all the time. Plus all it does is look silly.

    • @MidnightHedgehog365
      @MidnightHedgehog365 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@jonahandthewolf that'd be a little hard to do effectively since for instance the skirt she has on has a long slit. And the little slip skirt is made out of a different fabric than the main garment. You run the risk of it not laying or draping correctly or even flowing correctly in the wind as you have two different fabric weights. I'm not a seamstress but I crochet and fabric weight and material is so important when it comes to how an item looks, feels, and functions when worn. I think the only way to get around that is to sew the slip directly into the skirt and that really takes away from the function of the pattern in the first place as its meant to be see through.

      @@Hitsugix of course not, I was reacting to the comment people have said to her, while probably buying cheap clothes on the internet without batting an eye. It is just pure hypocrisy, and they are worse than what they criticise given that they probably disrespect workers more than a girl who modified her skirt to wear it more easily 🤷‍♀️
      As for people with low income, of course they buy whatever they can. Of course buying cheap clothes at the expense of the employees is not right imo but consumers don't really have a choice in this day and age. The real responsibility falls on companies who mass-produce crappy products while exploiting people to maximize profits.
      I also am in a situation where I can't buy expensive clothes, but luckily I am a seamstress too so I thrift and sew my wardrobe. I know first hand how difficult it is to buy sensibly made things without spending too much, but people do their best with what they have.

    I always cut off the underskirt usually based on the issue that they don't FIT me the same as the outer skirt. I like my skirts flowy! Never regretted for a moment!

    • @mungbean345
      @mungbean345 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I HATE when the skirt is flowy but the liner is a non-stretch hobble skirt! WHY!!!??!? (Probably to cut costs, realistically, but I hate it!) It's especially a pet peeve of mine when I find a skirt with a nice breathable fabric for my hot, humid environment, and then it arrives with a polyester lining. The horror!
