@@bradIeyyy .. too bad everyone agreed to tear down baseball history, kinda like everyone letting them tear down basketball history with the Boston Garden.... even as a red Sox fan I'm still pissed they tore down the og Yankee stadium.. now the only ones with soul left are Fenway park and Wrigley field..
Too much structural rot I believe---remember when the seats came crashing through the upper deck? That was like 10 years prior to this. Plus, the corporate greed wanted like 100 luxury boxes, which would have been impossible. But yeah, this stadium was at least twice as loud as the new one on its best day. The reason? The upper deck was much steeper sloped and hung over the field, trapping crowd noise.
The footprint of the old stadium is still there, now containing 3(?) youth league diamonds, a running track and open space. The giant bat stands behind the old home plate area as always. I walk along the fence which borders the third base/left field line when I exit the train and head for the new park across the street.
As a Red Sox fan I wish the original Yankee Stadium was still there. I never been to either the new or old stadium but I’d rather go to the old one for all of the memories.
It always annoyed me that the Yankees didn’t make the postseason this year. Out of all the years to not make the playoffs, it was Yankee Stadium’s final season 😟
I imagine had they left this stadium intact I would enjoy it more than Fenway park! The new yankee stadium is cool but it no longer houses the memories and energy the old one used to have! I did not feel blown away inside the new yankee stadium.
Also, the original Baltimore Orioles, now the Yankees, won their final game in old Yankee Stadium over the team that replaced them as the Baltimore Orioles.
Especially in playoffs wild card and world series played at the b old yamkee stadium it was absolute pure excitement you can feel the excitement the electricity in the air because all the fans knew some yankee was going to be a hero tonight save the game tie the game or win it from behind comebacm victorys was like breathing u knew it was going to happen u just didn't know which yankee was going to do it thats what made it so exciting to be there or watch it on TV
Is the guy holding up the "Mo-town" sign the same guy that held up the "Mr. November" sign when Jeter walked it off in game 4 of the 2001 World Series?
Never got to go to the old stadium but wish it was there. Looks better than the new one. Too bad george wanted a new stadium for some reason. Why did they tear it down again?
It was very outdated and lacked the modern amenities that newer stadiums have. Not to mention it was cramped and it was an old building. How much longer could it have lasted?
They wanted the extra luxury boxes, and the old stadium was falling apart. About a decade earlier, a seat fell through the upper deck onto the lower levels (thankfully nobody was inside at the time). May have been beyond repair.
The greatest closer managed to close out the last game at the greatest stadium in baseball. 1923-2008
