Why not, Clint Eastwood really got his career going by remaking Samurai films as westerns, about time they remade one of his as a Samurai film set in Japan.
The only Eastwood film that was a remake was fist full of dollars which was remake of yojimbo. Other that all his other westerns including the good, the bad, and the ugly are all original
Watched this over the weekend, this movie really did a great job standing apart from the original. I think there should be more Japanese remakes of American movies, at least they put heart and emotion into them.
Yeah...but actually the Clint Eastwood starring The fistfull of dollar is remake of Japanese movie Yojimbo...so the same this Unforgiven movie is remake of Clint Eastwood Unforgiven 1992 ..
For many who watch Japanese cinema and anime, this has elements of Samurai X ( Rurouni Kenshi), Sword of the Stranger and of course a few others. But of course it is a remake of Clint Eastwood's movie.
James Saunder to add on your list the departed which won martin scorsese his first oscar is a remake of a hong kong movie called internal affairs people should stop complaining about remakes because we have been proven many times remakes or adaptations can be as good as the original
Aaron C review my comment. I never said Hollywood doesn't borrow; they do it all the time. #2 I wasn't even dissing it, I just always viewed asian cinema above that... I guess not. Just simmer down troll king
+California Phantom The Kurosawa samurai films that were remade as westerns were inspired by American detective novels and Hollywood westerns in the first place. Yojimbo is basically Red Harvest with samurai.
You remake them first.. the furst spaghetti western film was based on japanese samurai movies.. clint eastwood remade yojimbo and it brought you the good, the bad and the ugly
@@debhroravindranathtabaloc9213 Clint Eastwood didn't remake Yojimbo. Sergio Leone did. And it wasn't The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, it was A Fistful of Dollars.
not making the connection with the title at about 30 seconds in i thought it was a remake of Yojimbo. interesting how it has come full circle, with kurosawa's samurai films being rewritten as westerns and now a japanese director re-writing an eastwood western as a samurai film.
So interesting. Clint Eastwood appeared in the Italian remake of Kurosawa's Yojimbo, now the japanese take Eastwood's Unforgiven for a samurai story These things happen on cinema
To all those critics who say Clint ripped off Kurasova first: Its not like a shot by shot remake my dear god's. Sergio was inspired by Kurasova and made something of its own. But this is a shot by shot remake of Unforgiven.
Nope. I concur. Hollywood removes everything about the original movie (i.e, the culture) that made it interesting. On the flip side, Asian remakes *add* their own cultural twist. It's one reason why I love so much music from Japan. They take Western rock and metal, tweak it, and make it better.
People, remember Infernal Affairs? The Hongkong Gangster/Cop/Thriller from 2002? No? Well, do you know Departed then? Martin Scorsese made Derparted and it´s nothing more than a remake of Infernal Affairs. He even won four Oscars with this remake. So stop whining about Unforgive!
Everyone is eluding to the Dollars series that Clint Eastwood starred in that were western remakes of Japanese Samurai classics Sanjuro and Yojimbo but those were made by the great Italian director Sergio Leone and they were Italian films with an entire Italian cast and crew besides Eastwood and about two other American stars.
Having seen the original, this trailer pretty much tells the entire story, thus further negating any reason to see it. Also, why remake the original? It's a classic!
Not bad but not as good as Clint Eastwood's version! Reminds me of a Samurai Western movie (Red Sun) in 1971 with Charles Bronson, Alain Delon and Ursula Andress.
I'm such a fan of Clint Eastwood and have memories of growing up watching his movies. I can't see myself liking another version more. I hope to take something profound from it.
Imagine the infamous shotgun scene where the gun misfires. But instead of Eastwood gunning down everyone with a pistol Watanabe cuts down everyone with a katana. My god, weebo heads will explode if their erections doing knock them out first from blood loss.
I am a big fan of Eastwood’s Unforgiven and a big Japanese movie fan. Personally, I’m not completely convinced by this remake. The design and especially the cinematography is excellent. I also really appreciated that the director tried to establish the story in the context of Hokkaido / Ainu colonisation. However, for me the film ends up hesitating between wanting to be its own film and wanting to be a remake of the original, and ends up being unsatisfactory. Definitely worth watching, but for me, disappointing.
Yeah, agree needs a better actor to replace Morgan freeman, not a bad rehash by the looks of it :) the original is still one of the best movies ever :)
That's because US films are released worldwide while foreign films don't get as wide as a release. So most people end up watching the US remake rather than the original foreign film.
This looks real nice and all, but the really sort of generic "award winner movie music" in the trailer is a pretty stark contrast to the original. It kinda makes this one seem more "hollywoody" ironically enough.
+poloshirtsamurai Agreed. Even though the "Clint Eastwood" version was a good film I as well had a time enjoying it. With the "Samurai" blend and Japanese culture this may be a good movie.
Why not, Clint Eastwood really got his career going by remaking Samurai films as westerns, about time they remade one of his as a Samurai film set in Japan.
I'm so down with this.
except clint eastwood didn't make a fistful of dollars sergio leone did but still I love whats going on here and hope its great
I love the symmetry.
Except that this one is better than the english original
The only Eastwood film that was a remake was fist full of dollars which was remake of yojimbo. Other that all his other westerns including the good, the bad, and the ugly are all original
Gotta love Ken Watanabe.
Ken Watanabe, great actor
Watched this over the weekend, this movie really did a great job standing apart from the original. I think there should be more Japanese remakes of American movies, at least they put heart and emotion into them.
"heart and emotion"? Mate. Have you seen Unforgiven?
@@quiett6191 I don't watch movies. I just quote critics in an attempt to fit in.
Can't wait for this to come out in American Theaters... or Netflix atleast...
No greater honor than to have your film redone in my opinion. Huge fan of Eastwood’s unforgiven,
I NEED TO SEE THIS REMAKE
Well back in the day hollywood remade Kurosawas "The Seven Samurai" as "the magnificent 7" so its about time the Japanese returned the compliment :)
Yeah...but actually the Clint Eastwood starring The fistfull of dollar is remake of Japanese movie Yojimbo...so the same this Unforgiven movie is remake of Clint Eastwood Unforgiven 1992 ..
This looks good! Ken Watanabe's awesome.
I so want to see this. This looks epic.
unforgiven is one of my favorite movies of all time, and i look forwards to this japanes samurai style remake...
Ken Watanabe-san is very best actor -omedetou
although the original can't be touched, this actually looks just different enough to be worth seeing.
For many who watch Japanese cinema and anime, this has elements of Samurai X ( Rurouni Kenshi), Sword of the Stranger and of course a few others. But of course it is a remake of Clint Eastwood's movie.
That´s just what I thought.
*****
And it has some pretty awesome soundtracks
***** Beast anime movie ever.
More like The connection between Sanjuro, Yojimbo and Sergio Leone Dollar series
Now this is a remake I really want to watch.
This is a Japanese remake of Unforgiven from 1992 with Ken Watanabe in the Clint Eastwood role
looks good.. love the orginial
Original being the Clint version?
-_-
guomaster
Think he´s mentally challenged...
This looks fantastic, I want this badly.
How did I miss this
The original is one of my favorite movies of all time. So i have to watch this, but am a little worried. I hope they do a good job with this one.
Its like the asian version of unforgiving meets quick and the dead. I never thought I'd see the day when asian cinema borrows from western films.
James Saunder to add on your list
the departed which won martin scorsese his first oscar is a remake of a hong kong movie called internal affairs

They said before making the movie that it was a salute to American western movies and poking fun at the fact that we remade their movies.
+California Phantom The Kurosawa samurai films that were remade as westerns were inspired by American detective novels and Hollywood westerns in the first place. Yojimbo is basically Red Harvest with samurai.
It's pretty cool that both movies were pretty well received.
You remake us? WE REMAKE YOU!
Don't forget The Magnificent Seven in 1960 a Western was a remake of a Japanese film, Seven Samurai.
Finally saw this movie...wow, loved it! So good
not making the connection with the title at about 30 seconds in i thought it was a remake of Yojimbo. interesting how it has come full circle, with kurosawa's samurai films being rewritten as westerns and now a japanese director re-writing an eastwood western as a samurai film.
A remake that doesn't look like it sucks! Watanabe looks great in this role!
Excellent movie and Ken watanabe an awesome actor.

Am I the only who thinks that asians are better at remaking hollywood films, than the other way around?
Nope. I concur. Hollywood removes everything about the original movie (i.e, the culture) that made it interesting. On the flip side, Asian remakes *add* their own cultural twist. It's one reason why I love so much music from Japan. They take Western rock and metal, tweak it, and make it better.
Throne of Blood = Macbeth. Ran = King Lear. Not just great American films, but great works of English literature.
Looks amazing!
gotta see it.
People, remember Infernal Affairs? The Hongkong Gangster/Cop/Thriller from 2002? No? Well, do you know Departed then? Martin Scorsese made Derparted and it´s nothing more than a remake of Infernal Affairs. He even won four Oscars with this remake. So stop whining about Unforgive!
haha thank you, theres so many more remakes the us have taken from japan
Everyone is eluding to the Dollars series that Clint Eastwood starred in that were western remakes of Japanese Samurai classics Sanjuro and Yojimbo but those were made by the great Italian director Sergio Leone and they were Italian films with an entire Italian cast and crew besides Eastwood and about two other American stars.
looking forward to this
Katsumoto!
This looks fantastic
Awesome
interesting...didn't see the original but this does seems like old western movie
should be deep and good
I remember the Clint Eastwood version of this, it was a classic.
This I will watch. But I doubt it would beat The Good, The Bad, and the Weird in my books.
will be watching :)
Kinda goes full circle. The best westerns were remakes of samurai movies, and this samurai movie was a remake a great western!
Veeeeeery interesting. I want to see it.
Far East Version of Eastwood's Western .... I like it!
Looks pretty good.
Trust me. Anyone who come to watch trailer first, you won't regret your time.
i miss ken watanabe ra's al ghul in batman begins :(
Having seen the original, this trailer pretty much tells the entire story, thus further negating any reason to see it. Also, why remake the original? It's a classic!
A lot of japanese people might say that about their movies
Not bad but not as good as Clint Eastwood's version! Reminds me of a Samurai Western movie (Red Sun) in 1971 with Charles Bronson, Alain Delon and Ursula Andress.
I never seen this before, usually we copy their movies
True! But if you look in their movie archive you could find a similar movie predating Eastwood's version, just a thought...
How can you say it's not as good if you haven't seen it?
True! I leave you that honor and you inform me later...
I'm such a fan of Clint Eastwood and have memories of growing up watching his movies. I can't see myself liking another version more. I hope to take something profound from it.
Очень-очень ждем!
A Japanese western styled movie? I might watch it!
I wonder how this will stack up compared to the korean remake of the Good, the bad, and the Ugly?
anyone know the music?
Where can I get the soundtrack?!?
ok im in
A remake is still a remake even in a different country
What is the name of the song?
Ken should have more lead roles in Hollywood before he got real old.
The score sounds a lot like "Journey to the line"
Imagine the infamous shotgun scene where the gun misfires. But instead of Eastwood gunning down everyone with a pistol Watanabe cuts down everyone with a katana. My god, weebo heads will explode if their erections doing knock them out first from blood loss.
Here is!Yasuo the Unforgiven!

wow, what a weird reversal, we used to rip off kurosawa's master piece. Now they come to remake ours. kind of amazing.
Yeah, agree needs a better actor to replace Morgan freeman, not a bad rehash by the looks of it :) the original is still one of the best movies ever :)
They just showed the entire film
Yojimbo > A Fistful of Dollars
Unforgiven > Yurusarezaru mono
A Japanese bang-bang. Could be interesting.
are you feeling lucky, punk? oh wait wrong movie
Mmm...this could be interesting. The original was a masterpiece...very difficult to make a remake, but this Japanese version could work.
mixed feelings bout that
_Remake made in Japan and no one bats an eye._ *Remake made in the US and everyone loses their minds!*
That's because US films are released worldwide while foreign films don't get as wide as a release. So most people end up watching the US remake rather than the original foreign film.
It's like the asian Django
The fistfull of dollar is remake of Japanese movie Yojimbo...so the same this Unforgiven movie is remake of Clint Eastwood Unforgiven 1992 ..
Wow that actress is cute.
This looks real nice and all, but the really sort of generic "award winner movie music" in the trailer is a pretty stark contrast to the original. It kinda makes this one seem more "hollywoody" ironically enough.
those Asian Facial Hair exist!!!!
Did he cut off English Bob's head?
mushi mushi
They spoiled the entire movie, in the trailer.....WTF?
Hmmmmmmmmm
Didn't enjoy it on my first viewing. I may have to give this a second go.
+poloshirtsamurai Agreed. Even though the "Clint Eastwood" version was a good film I as well had a time enjoying it. With the "Samurai" blend and Japanese culture this may be a good movie.
Deserve? Deserves got nothing to do with it.
1:17 she's anything but disfigured. those scars actually look kinda hot
Remake of a remake
Asian Clint Eastwood
Why not if gringos made a remake of 7 samurais japanese made one of unforgiven
HOLLY SHIT!
do they have to pay Clint Eastwood for his story?
HE IS HOT!
oops wrong country.
SO..japanese now making movies after usa? lolz
Many films from the US are actually remakes of foreign movies.

Yellow washing
stupid trailer spoiled the friend's death
not a fan of Eastwood, but this is raping Eastwood
boring.
Idiot
