It's heartwarming to hear a DP express how important production design is. I direct now, but used to do production design, and back then, on sooo many sets, art department got super disrespected by camera department, like it was a tug of war or something. I even had multiple situations where camera department destroyed props or installations the art department set up, and I once worked with a director/DP who fired the art department because the only thing they cared about was getting expensive camera equipment (project looked like crap). Things work best when people come together and respect each other's creative contributions. I really loved this spot and thought all the elements came together perfectly to create a whole immersive world. Great teamwork!!!
Thank you! Wow yeah that’s horrible!! Like I said in my vid art department Is legit the most important department on set. Without them a project just doesn’t look good even half as good. It’s crazy to hear there are dps out there that would disrespect a department so much. Appreciate you watching!!
I’m only 9 minutes into the video and the amount of knowledge that was clear and concisely told is actually priceless and it’s unbelievable that you haven’t blown up yet, you are going to reach 1 million subs by the end of the year I can tell. Thank you so much for making this video time to binge your channel.
Dude thank you so much! Haha idk about a million but we shall see! I’m so pumped you’re liking the videos! I’ll try to keep making good ones! Appreciate you my dude!!
Thanks Colin! Haha it was alot of work so I’m super glad you liked it. It honestly surprised me how many lights I used looking back on it lol. Appreciate you my dude!!
Thanks Ryan! I used the g master 16-35 at 16mm wide open at 2.8. Hahah yeah I have no idea what’s going on with him there. Appreciate you watching dude!!
Thanks man ! With the wardrobe pretty much the director had a pretty clear idea of what he wanted and then i basically told him what colors would look good with our palette. Appreciate you watching dude !
Now that I think about it - If you wanted to remove reflections on skin, I’d actually throw in a Rota pola VS a 4x. I’d be curious to see a comparison between these 2 techniques
It depends on the look you are going for ! For this one I had very minimal adjustments I had to make in the mid tones to make sure the skin stayed accurate. Basically just adding back a little red. Hope that answers your question. Appreciate you watching!!
I think total we maybe spent $1000. we split the cost between me, the director, and the producer, so it ended up being not too expensive all things considered. We also got a lot of favors and good friends in the industry who were able to help us out! appreciate you watching man!!

Thanks man ! With the wardrobe pretty much the director had a pretty clear idea of what he wanted and then i basically told him what colors would look good with our palette. Appreciate you watching dude !
@@carstenschlag no problem. How do you go about choosing a palette? Is it based on reference images ?
Yup! Just go through a bunch of different movies and still images and compile the ones with colors I like and eventually pull a palette from that!

When you set in camerra wb to 9000, do you have to do any special grading to skin tone in post?
It depends on the look you are going for ! For this one I had very minimal adjustments I had to make in the mid tones to make sure the skin stayed accurate. Basically just adding back a little red. Hope that answers your question. Appreciate you watching!!
Nice one!
Thanks man! Appreciate you watching!
Only real videographers saw the dirty sensor at 10:44, my PTSD hit real hard 😭
