    I first thought that this was a throw together from out of the parts bin for the folks who were nostalgic for the old Z1. Fills a need but not really designed from the ground up and bound to disappoint in a few ways, like so many retro motorcycles in the past. Now I'm thinking that the manufacturers are getting more serious about this kind of bike. They seem to have their act together with the Kawasaki Z900 RS. No one puts it down. I'll be keeping my eye out for one

    • @KB-yj5xp
      @KB-yj5xp  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really is a fantastic bike, a modern classic. I've put 70,000 hard km's on it and it runs absolutely perfectly still. I've got a zx6 and a cb1000r and this is usually my go to bike.

  • @gerwynbegonia6115
    @gerwynbegonia6115 ปีที่แล้ว

    @KB-yj5xp 2 questions. Is your Hindle exhaust the 14" or 20" option? (I noticed Hindle offers both sizes, but curious which size you have?). Secondly, did you put the baffle noise reducer in your Hindle exhaust? The sound clip in your video is amazing, but I live downtown Toronto and wondering if I should purchase the baffle.

    • @KB-yj5xp
      @KB-yj5xp  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe I have the longer one, and I don't think the baffle fits this style muffler. It is very loud, especially after getting broken in, i don't take this bike to work in the mornings because I leave at 6 am, and I tend not to ride my bike on Friday or Saturday night because they target exhausts here and this one definitely gets tickets, in Ottawa it's only $80, when I get the ticket on the Quebec side it's $350, so I need to limit when and where I ride this bike because of it.

    • @gerwynbegonia6115

    • @KB-yj5xp
      @KB-yj5xp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say it does both, it is significantly lower 6-8inches probably and a little more forward too, its been about 3 years since I installed them so I don't remember exactly how the stock ones felt in terms of how far swept back they are.

    • @KB-yj5xp
      @KB-yj5xp  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Jared, I ordered it off the hindle website, it's been a few years but I'd assume they still make it. Overall quality is great, I put it on when the bike had 17,000 km and it has 83,000 now and the finish is holding up good. There's a bit of fading on the headers but I think that's to be expected over 5 years and that many km's but they still look good. It is loud though, I've known a couple people who got it but ended up taking it off because they found it too loud.

    • @jaredmotopnw
      @jaredmotopnw 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah. Thanks so much for sharing that! I’m in Oregon, so I should be good (in terms of noise). I had a Cone exhaust on my Speed Twin and really like that people can hear me going by (cause most bad drivers don’t see me). ;)

    nice job, made a cafe out of it- didnt want the RS Cafe I guess. colors too gaudy? haha. got a ol z1000. only nitpik would be clutch cable sticking out a mile on the R side-- from the low bars I assume. but its subtle & sweet good job.

      yeah I haven't gotten around to getting a shorter clutch cable, it never ends!! • @KB-yj5xp
      @KB-yj5xp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah these are definitely the two best in this category, I was between the two as well, I always figured the xsr is the faster and better priced bike, but the Kawi is a little better looking, when I bough mine I was looking for used as a new one was out of my budget and the first deal I found was for the kawi, if I had found a xsr first, I would likely have went that way.

    I test rode a demo 2022 Z900RS cafe a couple months ago. One of the best sounding stock motorcycles I have heard. Even from the rider position. Shipping was super fast, as always from webike, it came from japan to ottawa canada in I think 4 days. I had to use a dremel and elongate the mounting holes slightly because it was a tad too tight, another person I talked to who bought the same one had to do the same thing. It wasn't that bad, I went a lazy way and ground off the pins that were in the switches so I wouldn't need to drill the bars. I wasn't confident I'd get the right position at first and would need to move things around a few times. But the clearance is good and doesn't touch the tank at full lock.

    How much I love the sound of that engine, the "tone" of that muffler is lacking quality compared to other mufflers I've heard in the last 30 years of my life. Yes an engine can produce a beautiful sound and a poorly shaped muffler can screw that sound up. I do think the reason manufacturers of exhausts have gone smaller and smaller with muffler sizes in the recent couple of decades is due to the bigger and bigger catalytic converters being forced on manufacturers to pass stupid pointless over-the-top emissions laws. In some cases, new bikes today aren't even that loud with the muffler completely removed due to the massive cat in the mid-pipe.
    So..... full systems (if they are made) are often loud because they are assumed as "closed course use only" and therefore sound doesn't matter. Either that, or the full systems are homologated and legal for road use and have a cat installed, requiring less muffler size again. Either way, an exhaust manufacturer is concerned about saving money on processes and materials, as any manufacturer who has a brain should be. As a result, mufflers are small, loud, often the tone is very raspy and emits a lot of irritating noise outside the scope of the music note the engine makes (the part our ears like hearing). It's like a French horn makes a beautiful note, but adding in a lot of rasp, rattle, crackle, resonance and dirty sound with that French horn note makes it less pleasant, regardless of how loud it is.
    Anyway. Just something I wanted to get off my chest.
    Thanks for the work, the video was great, the flybys and microphone did the job well. Wish more bikers would do this for exhausts.
    I've saved a long list of TH-cam exhaust clips. I'm geeky like that. Here's one of my fav's: /watch?v=Ua68zVjcR_I

      I agree with you, hindle makes primarily race exhausts but I thought aesthetically it went with my bike, plus they are made a couple hours down the road. I wish it had a little less raspy tin type noise and a little more growl. It’s hard to capture it accurately in a video but I think it sounds better in person, I get compliments pretty much every time I ride it, or I’m getting tickets depends on who hears it 😂

      @@KB-yj5xp Probably the headers and midpipe are fine. The OEM headers are some of the smallest I.D. of anything in the 900cc class, super flow restrictive, also double-wall for ridiculous weight. I think Kawasaki also "adjusted" cam profiles with the RS/Cafe bike vs. the Z900, as it makes about 10 less peak HP even after all the restrictions are removed, maybe it makes a touch more torque in the middle? That was the original claim. It also has a goofy tall 6th gear that seems out of place with the rest of the gear spacing. Oh well. I still love the aesthetic of the RS, also the ergos are more roomy for a 6-foot+ guy like me.
      You sound middle aged at least. Do you remember the years of Micron, Yoshimura, Two Brothers, Ti Force, Muzzy, Leo Vince SBK, and a few other brands who used the simple oval or round exhaust canisters with a nice rolled and turned-down tip out the end? They were all straight flow-through designs without baffles, but the internal sound packing material volume was pretty high. They canceled out all the harshness and emitted a cool deep tuned note, that got louder and stronger when the packing baked in. Only company that comes close to that these days seems to be Delkevic, but out of all the samples online that I've heard, they are still raspy. Maybe Dale Walker's Holeshot brand still holds to this more simplistic design, but his mufflers are also small diameter and shouty.
      The States (where I live) hasn't gotten the "Factory S" muffler version of the Leo Vince, just the smaller mufflers. I think that Factory S muffler would have sufficient size for canceling all the harshness but emitting the typical Leo bark. Would have to pair one up with a Akra, Arrow, or other header. Brock's Performance has some very good headers for the Z but the mufflers are diminutive and LOUD and I don't like the shouty mid tones.
