It isn't weird - opponent had no heat. If the situation is turned around and Smojo is the defending side they will get heat before volleys and Nix procs. It's done in the way to benefit player over the saved board which in my book is really nice. Basically win/win situation.

On this build, I would try to get the toads to see the mana orbs, Toads give you mana and luck on buff consomption and mana orbs are the only items in this build that does consume buff, on top of that, it gives you a lot of mana and also a lot of buff on activation.
It's 10 healing every time the mana orbs give you mana and 3 mana, 3 luck and 170 healing on mana orb activation !

As you noticed he can't come back to life cuz he has no heat :P The last line of log is always showing situation after all opponents start of battle procs. The only way to get heat for them would be Dragon nest but it's only 2 heat or like 1 random heat from potion belt. Pheonix without Lantern is never an issue.
Well technically they could have Stone Armor into Stoneskins into Moonshield into orb into rolling much heat from it and ending up with sth like 8-9 heat =P
