  • For this metal detecting hunt, I took the Fisher CZ-21 to a soccer field to see how it performs away from the beach. It was a nice hunt and I found several coins. I really liked using the pin point feature and it really comes in handy with the concentric coil that comes stock on the CZ-21. Enjoy!

    This is a great metal detector. Works great on beaches and on land. It does take some time learning how to setup to get the most out of its capabilities. Also when not using in the water there is a belt clip for the actual unit itself. This is defiantly one of the best detectors on the market. Thanks for sharing

    During ground balance you may have been too close to your shovel, the targets you put out, etc... Scan for an area without any signals before doing the ground balance.

    Thanks for the education on the Fisher CZ! The heavier non corroded pennies are older copper ones, the more corroded pennies are newer zinc junkers..

    I have the CZ21. Takes time to learn well, like all machines, especially depth sounds. As for a shovel. I use a $25. Trenching shovel from the hardware store. It has a narrow four inch by 8 inch long blade. I cut the handle down to help fit it into my cars trunk.

    Pennies before 1982 were 95% copper. After that they were 97.5% zinc with a thin copper coating. Some soils will just eat these zincs up. Making them brittle and pitted. They don't hold up as well as the coppers did given the soil type. That rubber looking thing is a cleat off of a soccer shoe.
    Great hunt. Thanks for sharing.

    The CZ 21 also has a number of variations in tones once you gain some experience. There is a rear shaft mount available on ebay for $16. It really helps balance the detector and I can swing the CZ 6 - 8 hours. It is impossible to really "try out" a detector like this in only a few hunts. But thanks for trying.

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering if it did. Yea, that would really come in handy. Then you can extend the coil and get a larger sweep pattern. Yea, I know what you mean. There are so many factors that will affect how a machine runs and 3 or 4 hunts won't show all that.

    For the shallow targets especially on a public soccer field you may want to use a long blunt screwdriver to ensure you do not damage the sod. With that shovel you may do much damage to the grass roots and have the plug dislodged by the players who run on it. The city will eventually ban detecting if plugs are the direct result of detectorists....Enjoy your videos!

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's good thinking! I'll have to remember that for next time. Yea, I'd hate to have it affect the hobby in my area that's for sure. Thanks for the advice. :D

      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thank you for watching me test it out. :) For me, I prefer the Excal over the CZ-21. The CZ is a good machine yes but I like how the Excal has several different tones for metals. I think there's 21 tones, not positive though. Some people have said the CZ also has variances in the tones but I've not noticed that since I've been using it.

    The shiny item is a broken off nozzle that is used to fill up a soccer ball, football or basket ball. The screw with the hard plastic or rubber grommet is a screw on cleat for a sport shoe, probably a soccer shoe.

      Agree, strictly a beach /water machine and I love mine. Would never use it in the park. Plus she needs a harness to put in any kind of time.

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it's a water machine but I figured I would see how it performs on land. Out of curiosity honestly. :) But I agree, the discrimination would make it hard to hunt trashy areas.

      @conan6908 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I tried one of those Bulgarian Pirate turn-knob, single-tone, Apolonias at the beach and they're (tooooo) sensitive, I could only turn mine up halfway and then, like your CZ-21, the discrimination(maybe less capable then yours) is not adequate enough to even disc. out a pull tab so needless to say, I was getting loud, solid hits literally (everywhere) on the beach at about 2-10" apart. Maybe that might be a (good) sign but I, like you, had better have my energy and "eat my Weaties", lol, to dig what this detector sounds good and loud on or I will be worn out and wanting to take a nap under one of the beach picnic shelters by mid-day, Lolll !!

    Great vids! Thank you for sharing them! I bought a Whites V3i last month and I love it. I've been trying to plan a weekend in clearwater the first weekend in Dec (tbd) for my bday just to get some sun (I'm in newengland). I've been contemplating bringing my detector but I'm not sure I am comfortable checking it in a plane. 😝

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! And thanks for watching. :) Oh very nice. I love new toys! Yea, Clearwater in December would be nice, not crazy hot and shouldn't be a bunch of people there either. You should totally bring your machine. But I agree, I wouldn't check it. Take it as a carry on in a backpack. Make sure to take the manual with you. You will most likely be stopped at security so having the manual with you will help them believe you when you say it's a metal detector. Good luck!

    • @LM-ek2hb
      @LM-ek2hb 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also have a V3i and I travel with it! :)
      Get a Pelican 1510 case with the handle. It is the maximum dimensions for a carry-on bag. The V3i (with stock coil) breaks down and just fits in the case. Actually, I shaved off about .25" of the longest rod so that it would fit up in the lid diagonally. And yes, love my V3i as well! Now you won't have to check your detector!

      Forgot to mention.. If you actually do this, TSA will have a fit if you try to get a hand shovel or digging tool on board. I have a sturdy plastic one that I put in the Pelican 1510 but it's not a good solution. Lately, I just get to my destination and buy a $5 cheap garden shovel at Lowes. When I'm ready to fly back, I just leave it in the rental car - lol.

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another good test. I did hit the link and was surprised at the price. I was thinking it was like the Garrett 400. I guess I like a display to see what is happening. Just sounds is a bit off-putting. I hear lots of phantom signals when I hunt, I need to see what it is and how deep it is. It is good to see you hunt land locations too. I rarely travel to a beach to hunt, bit of a drive. I would call that detector 'Coiner'.

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Yea, it's right up there with the Excal. I personally prefer the Excal over the CZ-21 though. :) I know what you mean about having a display. I was just like you. I was always looking at the display though. With the sounds, you have to rely on your senses to pick up the differences. Yea, I hate those ghost signals no doubt! Yea, it's nice to have a change once in a while. I still prefer beach hunting over land digging. Hahaha! Good name!

      I found that many times digging with a beep and dig machine results in finding a lot more good targets because you dont second guess the display numbers and pass the targets by as easily. I find more gold and silver with my beep and dig machine than my various other VDI machines combined.

    • @conan6908
      @conan6908 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good job Dean, for showing the benefits of these too-often, passed up type detectors. The beep and dig are all I have ever used since 1989, when I first got into this hobby. (AND) most of mine are the single-tone at that. I (do) like the two tone and three and four tones but the 5-tone+ are "for the birds". WAY too many tones and I really think too many tones can be very confusing in high-trash areas as it overwhelms a person's hearing/concentration levels. I (HIGHLY) suggest that She Detector try out a little cheap GC-1022/1023. These are (extremely) quick, 2-tone detectors(with all-metal and single-tone option at the flip of the switch). They have response times/recovery speed, comparable to a Teknetics T2 or better and can go down to 8" and more, if on the beaches. Very positive, high tone for the accepted targets and of course, the low-tone for the nails, foil, etc.

    Nice hunt...the corroded pennies are made after 1982 til now...they are made of zinc..not copper. They are just plated in copper which dissolves off quickly in the ground and the zinc corrodes and decomposes quickly. ...LOL if your to cheap to get a good shovel..sharpen the one you have on an electric grinder! ;) glad you had fun. I enjoyed seeing you dig dirt. ... Funny thing is that a 10k large class ring will sound like a zinc penny! GL/HH next hunt

    I like that you finally did a land hunt instead of the beach, but I think I see why you prefer the beach, it looks like the digging is hard for you. I like the way the pinpointer works on the Fisher. In regards to not digging the low tones, on my AT Gold I get some middle tones for nickles. if you ignore those tones you could be missing things. In relic hunting, you dig everything.

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, I try to hunt on land once or twice a year. Hahaha. I do find it very hard. :( Yea I've heard about digging everything when looking for relics. You never know!

    • @conan6908
      @conan6908 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And She Detector, most relic hunters don't use any discrimination and so they can go pretty deep. In the 60's and 70's, the detectors, for the most part, had no discrimination(but some models did) but the better units had an iron null-out feature that made smaller pieces of iron, like nails, go silent and (still) find a coin, right above or below, even a pile of nails. AND, they were transmit/receive, non-motion detectors which means that the coil didn't have to be moving to detect the target like the newer VLF(very low frequency) motion detectors. So this made them great for pinpointers.

      Yeah me and my friend breathed a bunch of this in because when they were treating the soccer fields, the wind caught some of the chemicals and blew it our way. I had a lot of itching and nerve pain/twitches from that stuff for a couple of years thereafter. I'm (positive), it was those chemicals they sprayed on the fields that morning while we were MD'ing so yeah, be (very) careful not to breath these and don't let it touch your skin and maybe take a handkerchief and wear a long-sleeve shirt if they all of a sudden bring out the chemicals.

Love all these trial and reviews of yours never the less. So, thank you.

    Good morning SD Nice hunt. Remember if you don't dig them pull tabs yer not gonna dig no gold.The pennies are copper over a zinc core and so when scratched moisture gets between the metal layers and the zinc breaks down and your penny is no longer a penny.
    Here in Canada they removed the penny for circulation about 3 years ago and the last few years before that they tried clad but it cost more than a penny to put them into circulation.
    I keep all my copper pennies and as copper goes up in price so do my pennies (about 2.1cents a penny right now)
    Little suggestion If you don't have a bench grinder at home take your shovels and swing by your mechanic with a six pac and ask if they would be so kind as to sharpen them for you, just along the first few inches of the cutting edge, so much easier for digging in grass.
    Now go digging and when your done you have a six pac to celebrate your finds with, don't think your mechanic will charge you a thing.
    HH

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Morning! Thank you. :D Yea, but since I was digging on land, I wasn't to concerned with missing gold. I would have been digging all day and had a bunch of pull tabs to show for it I'm sure. Hahaha! That's good thinking about keeping them for the copper. That's good thinking about getting the edges sharpened. I'll keep that in mind. :) I'm not terribly concerned with that though since I hardly hunt on land. :)

      No problem. Glad to be of help. Nothing more frustrating than not having either the correct technique or having low-quality tools in hard ground or if your like me, having to MD without a pinpointer because your pinpointer is busted and so you have to end up hand sifting for the target, lol. Pheww, really time consuming, lol.

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahaha, oh gosh! I don't think I could handle it if I didn't have a pin pointer. Sometimes while beach hunting you find the smallest of targets. Trying to hand sift to locate it would drive me nuts!

    • @conan6908
      @conan6908 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL, yeah She Detector, I can laugh about it now but it was sooooo discouraging and a little irritating about two weeks ago when I didn't have a working pinpointer at my local park and I had to hand sift for the target. When I finally found it by waving the handful that finally (had) the target, it was soooooo small, I never did find it so I had to give up and put all the dirt back in the hole. Encouraging that this detector had 'the muss' to find the really deep and also small items but yes, I'm like you, I've (GOT) to have a good pinpointer as this is kind of like an extra sense, lol.

    To ease the strain on your forearm -- relax -- lightly hold the grip by cupping it with your fingers - so that it "floats" in your curled fingers. Grabbing the grip tightly increases the tension in the upper forearm. My Fisher CZ-7a [an ancestor to your CZ-21] also will sound like yours [at minute 36:15] when it encounters underground crud -- it could be junk construction trash buried years ago. Found a 1962 Estado Unidos Mexico one peso coin / about 6 inches/ while "land digging" neighbor's yard. Continue on -- am enjoying your hunts. QUESTION: Have you done a video comparison of the different units that you have used?

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense. I suppose I could be white knuckling the grip and not even realize it. Yea, you might be right about that. There's no telling what's under that ground. And since it was right near the bench, it could have been from when they installed the bench. Good thinking! Oh that's cool. :) Well, I've compared different units but not all of them together. I suppose I could do a video talking about all of the machines I've used though. ;)

  • @allenmorgan9810
    @allenmorgan9810 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    You want to practice pinpointing with your own targets, visible on the surface, like you did at the start of the video. Then, if you really want to have some fun, have a friend tape a target to the back side of a big piece of cardboard, where you can't see it. Find it, then try to pinpoint it. Stick a straight pin through right where you think the target it.
    When I would ground balance, I always flipped the Disc. to Auto-Tune, Sens. to 10, and left the GB knob where it was from the last hunt. Turn the unit on, scan around for metal targets, then start pumping the coil up and down. For best results, you want the detector tuned slightly "negative". You'll hear a little bit of sound on the up-swing as you pump the coil. However, consider this. You're in Florida. There's not much mineralization there. Plus, you're using the CZ-21, which is locked in SALT mode. SALT mode helps with conductive salts and mineralization. You probably don't have to worry to much about GB'ing the unit down there.
    On both my CZ-5 and my CZ-20, in "clean" areas, I would hunt in Auto-Tune, with my detector running fairly hot, Sens. around 8, until I got a target. I would then flip from Auto-Tune to 0 Disc. to ID the target (one click clockwise, you're turning yours counter-clockwise). Pinpoint and recover the target, then check for a second one, as you do sometimes get multiple targets. Flip back down to Auto-Tune and continue hunting.
    Go to the Fisher Research Labs website and see if they still have the .pdf article that Tom Dankowski published, about "Intelligent Hunting". That will probably help shorten your learning curve.
    Most aluminum will always come in as a mid-tone, unless youre' on a squished can. That will probably give a high tone and/or bell tone (overload). Bouncing signals can be all sorts of things. It's easier to figure out on a CZ with a meter, either the 5 or 7. A mid- and high-tone bouncing signal could be Foil/Nickel, which could be a corroded Buffalo Nickel, gold ring, on the low end. On the high end of the scale, it could be a Pulltab/Penny bouncing target, which could be a big chunky piece of can slaw, or a chunky gold ring, especially the higher carat rings. Something that many new CZ users had a hard time with, is that while FRL gave the Nickel a high tone, Nickels come in rather low on the meter, down between foil and pulltabs.

So any way just like your car if the coating gets scratched off it'll corrode.salt affects zink like crazy.fertilizer for grass will kill a zink penny the ocean beaches will devour a zink stinkin Lincoln.ok im done blabbin.gl&hh&stay safe

    CZs are very deep seeking detectors but are prone to giving a false good signal on small deep iron. It's best to concentrate on solid repeatable signals. They are great machines, but like most all detectors, you have to learn how to best use them.

    Dont pass up any sound if it sounds like a penny,I was doing that because they sounded like clad pennys. Turned out I was passing up indian head pennys. They are made with bronze and copper but the signal on my CZ -6 was telling me they were clad. Good thing I back tracked. That detector turned out to be a killer indian head coin finder. That and silver. It was great for fining deeper coins that my other detectors were missing. Dont worry about using a towel,the first rain washes the dirt back where it belongs,as long as you dont leave divits! I found out the hard way about not wearing good gloves. getting stitches after digging in the dirt requires a tetnis shot as well as them stuffing a needle in the wound to flush out any flesh eating microbes. Glass and sharp metals holds no love for flesh. I once found a clad coin that had a blade of grass growing through the center of the coin. The metal had pitted so badly,the grass was able to grow through it. My best finds were those laying right on top of the ground!

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no!! I'm sorry you missed them. But at least you know what they sound like now! :D Yea, I figured that would happen. Yea, I don't leave divots, I try to make sure all the grass and dirt is where it belongs. :) Yikes! What did you cut your hand/finger on? Wow really? That's crazy. I've never seen that before. Hahaha.

    • @scottfirman
      @scottfirman 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      She Detector Broken glass is the number one thing to get cut on,rusty sharp metal can open you up too,its best to always wear mechanics style gloves. They didnt have such a thing back when I started,I would wear the fingers out of normal gloves and thin leather gloves wouldnt work very well eather. I have half a coin book full of indian head coins,many from the 1880's and 1890's. I started a second book but after I sold my CZ-6 I pretty much stopped finding indian head coins. I should have kept it. As I said,It was hard to adjust to using it and setting the ground interference everytime you used it was a headache. Most guys hated them. I liked mine just because it found stuff deeper than every detector back then. I did a lot of really old farm sites that were over grown and you needed the extra depth to reach the indian head coins. I dont get out to hunt much any more ,mostly because of my health. I still like to swing my detector,especially at a friends house.

    • @SheDetector

    • @conan6908
      @conan6908 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's too bad the detection circuit isn't hotter or the size of your coil wouldn't matter that much. In some models, Toyota Subaru, there's a sensitivity potentiometer one can turn clockwise for more sensitivity but be very care as this should only be done on the less sophisticated ones. A multi-tone detector like a Minelab can be screwed up and the tones changed as well as the ground balance so I wouldn't recommend it on your expensive detector (but) for the sub-$300 +/- detectors that are turn-knob, non-screen i.d. type and maybe a maximum of two-tones, substantial depth can be gained by tweaking this circuit. If you doubt this, Keith Southern did a video using the XP Goldmaxx Power and it pegs a nickel at 15" with the 5" NEL coil (IN RED CLAY), one of the most difficult soils to detect in and many detectors have a problem with this soil. Check out this video - th-cam.com/video/7tmYY5WtC9c/w-d-xo.html

    Hey there she detector ..if i may weigh in ..My suggestion first off would be to practice in your lawn or a family's yard if you live in an apartment and dont have a yard .hone your plug digging scills. then venture out into public aria, But you have to keep in mind that you are in a public aria,parks ,playing fields ,were the lawns are kept up ,cut, its a lot different then the beach ,,hmm more work .,and i cant see that little pa teet(sp) frame of yours being heavy enough to pond in the plug tight enough that the lawn cutting tractor wont just pull up and through it aside ,as i had happen when my father in law let me do his yard..lol so i had to go back and fix 3 or 4 of them . And yes hun always, always have a towel or an old t-shrit as i use,for one it looks good to on lookers that you are being respectful ,and of coerce all the dirt goes back in the hole .But as to the hole you need to get rid of that stupid digger your using and get yourself a good garden shovel ,i went through 3 of them before i got a good one that wont brake, yours to narrow more work.With mine i make like a 3 sided cercal or box ,always leave the 4th side un-dug as then the plug has a life line of sorts, other wise the plug could die, now when your ready to pop it out ,pray oppicide the spot you left ,put your other hand on the top of plug so the plug stays together,as you flip it .(Plug between your hand and the shovel)l ,then when your done put all dirt back in the hole,then flip the plug back in ,now i myself, ill pond the plug a few times with my fist,but its never quit enough so i then pond all around the seam of the plug and blend with the butt of my little shovel ,then a couple of ponds in the center of the plug,then lastly rack the grass with my fingers.so the grass looks normal and any dirt that remains is blended.It sounds like a lot but one you do it a few times it dose go a lot faster and you will achieve that ..make it look like you were never there appearance,and and when they cut the grass they should stay in place.As allways respectful your Canadian Fan.. Jean

    Pennies are made out of crap metal today (copper coated steel or zinc?) and deteriorate rapidly. The other day my club went to a park and found lots of pennies (Canada) from the 80's which were copper and in good condition. Coins used to have value in their metals, not anymore. :(

    • @jmv2015
      @jmv2015 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah well in the old days coins were worth for their amount of silver or gold they had each coin, now with the comodities WAY inflated, its cheaper to just make a coin with X cheap and resistant material and just give it a face value lol

    • @DeeegerD
      @DeeegerD 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      J Manuel Villarreal True, but the metal is not inflated, rather the dollar is deflated. Worth about 1 or 2 cents of what it was originally. Many in the industry consider silver and gold to be well undervalued.

      Digger D Watch what you are doing,I was passing up indian head pennys because I was rejecting what I thought were clad pennys,turns out I was getting the same readings as indian head. It was a good thing I double checked my digs. I had passed up a spill of almost a dozen of them because They read the same as clad junk coins. I almost filled a book that summer of indian head coins. Had I rejected them,I wouldnt have found any. If in doubt,dig it out. Visually seeing what you are digging is the only real way to know what it is you are digging. Especially in a trashy area.

      We live relatively close to Canada being in Northern Mi, finding Canadian coins is as common as finding regular coins,up in Sault St. Marie Mi I found really old Canadian coins,that area was established before the United States even was. The french owned it first,then the Britts. It was fun getting all excited finding early 1900 to late 1800 coins up there,all Canadian of course. I remember my first mexican Paso.lol. Being we get many immigrants came up to pick Cherrys and Apples so metal detecting around their housing units produced scads of Mexican coinage. They would let their children play with them and they would end up all over the grounds. I got tired of digging them at one farm site and left. I will say,finding mexican silver rings with jade and other southern America type stones gave me a rush. I even found a beautiful opal ring mounted in silver. Thats always been my favorite stone so I never sell those rings. I have given my mom several of them. Finding a 24 k gold necklace is the best I ever found. Gave it to my sister.

    the coins have bumps because of chemical when they fertilize the feild

    • @SheDetector
      @SheDetector  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, you could be right about that! I hadn't thought about it being from chemicals.

    • @PR4470
      @PR4470 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SheDetector Hi, the reason those 1cent coins look bumpy and pitted like that is because they're 1983 and newer and has nothing to do with chemicals. Most 1982 and older cents are composed of 95% copper and 5% zinc, whereas starting in 1983 they were made of 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper. Copper is more resisted to the elements, soil etc.

    I know that your primarily a beach/water detectorist but I feel so bad watching you dig plugs, sounds painful for you. I broke down and bought a lesche and go all the way to my knees when I dig a plug rather than bending over. It helps when you have a bad back and gives you better leverage. Kind of why I am turning to beaches and water, just use my scoops now.

      Also if you want to save some time, not that you do, but you can train your eye to pinpoint with that machine and there is no need for the pinpoint mode. With that coil it is extremely easy to do. Those penny's are made of zinc which corrodes quickly. Junk!

      Hey Larry,
      In North Carolina, we have a soccer complex on the north side of town that goes back to the early 90's now I know this isn't that old but me and my friend found (hundreds) of quarters, pennies, nickels, and dimes along with the usual "can slaw" and other trash. We also found medallions, silver rings, some gold rings and earrings and such. I found a $130 gold rope necklace one day, myself. The grounds foreman(the ones that wear the white shirts tucked in and the beige slacks) didn't care, as long as we didn't detect the fields themselves. The reason for this is that it becomes a liability issue if a player twists an ankle, the city could be sued so they couldn't allow this "across the board", at least for that soccer complex but the wide, 10-50' sidelines and between each adjacent field was okay to metal detect.

    She! ;) Why are you using a hand trowel when you have a shovel beside you 13:10 ??? ;) With a shovel you can cut a much nicer plug and work on the bottom of it - then when you put it back, most times the hole is invisible. This also preserves the roots of the grass bettererer :?) With the shovel - put your foot into it! lol Do I sound like a mother hen yet? ;) Watching you dig with that shovel - you're such a girly girl ;) HH
