Welcome to my world. I only ever do tramping, i wouldn't have it any other way. Manage your own hours and save money on fuel by not travelling to and from the yard everyday. Its a lifestyle and understandably not for everyone.

I wouldn't do tramping even if it meant losing a kidney instead, there is more to life than sleeping in a tin can, trunking or nothing for me

Could be worse, I've had crazy shift patterns over the last few weeks and the body clock is all over the place. Felt like sleeping in the truck rather than going home many a time after a shift cos at least you know where you are with it. Back on regular night trunks next week with a new truck on Monday so all good and there's a very strong rumour I won't be agency much longer.

@@truckitprayle Thanks mate, back on fixed nights next week after 2 days training a new guy on the "trial" day trunk (long story) and getting a new Iveco S-Way, met the truck tonight, it's awesome. Loved showing the new guy the run cos it's tricky due to having to be quick getting out of the hub to beat mental rush hour traffic in 20 miles of roadworks coming back. I've trialled this new run for 4 weeks, built a relationship with security, shunters, office, etc at the hub and you cannot go any faster than the system we worked together at. You have to do this run in 9hrs driving time Mon-Thurs, you can use a 10hr only once cos you MUST have a 10hr drive left for Friday traffic when you get hammered on the M1. It's been a tough challenge to make it work but all good. I'm going to love being back on Northumberland to Rochdale trunk next week, it'll feel like part time ha ha ha ha

I prefer tramping, you can do the longer routes as your not restricted on having to get back to the yard before your time runs out, also yougetmore time in bed as i live 45 mins from the yard per journey so a nine off is really 7 and a half off

You'll soon be transitioning from a HGV driver to an Aussie truck driver. No more tachographs to deal with. No more driving and other work to deal with. No more Driver CPC to deal with. And to top it off, if you are prepared to work, Australia generally pays very well.

Absolutely love tramping myself. Preparation is key for me: few 5 litre bottles of water, plenty of easy to cook stuff (those pouches of microwave rice are great and tinned stuff for simplicity), I just whack them in a saucepan and cook over my camp stove in the back of my trailer. Ultimate feeling of freedom - you either love it or hate it, and I happen to love it. I wouldn’t have it any other way 😎
P.s. if you’re on with a good firm, they will only want you stopping in SNAP services or truck stops for the night (especially important when you’re pulling curtain siders and want to be as secure as possible). The guys I’m currently with have it all set up so there’s number plate recognition, don’t even need to put your hand in your pocket.
