ha, this would have helped me some when just finishing a floor tread project. Although luckily my walls were quite parallel so i didnt have many issues just taking measurements. in the bad spots just used glue and shavings.
There will be a video coming out showing its use, subscribe to the channel if you are not already and turn on your notifications and you wont miss that one.
Great jig Shannon…although I don’t have any stair projects on the horizon I can see where a similar setup would be useful setting up floating shelves inside an enclosed space such as a former closet or three sided nook. For multiple shelves I believe this would save time and eliminate the need to scribe.
Thanks again, I'm doing a my stair project next month. Thanks for all your videos, as a complete novice you have been a great resource for many of my renovations around the house.
Love your approach to building things and showing others. You are a skilled tradesman and communicate things well. Cracked me up when you were talking about the trapezoid end piece when you said something like "a lot of you are smarter than me" - well smart vs. wisdom are to different things. I'm neither. Lots of smart people in the world that aren't wise at all. ;) Thanks again for the quick video and tips to building. Off to make my jig based on your model.
Spencer Lewis from the Insider Carpentry TH-cam channel uses a commercial version of this jig in his hardwood stair video. If you watch that video he shows why and how it is used.
Is this to just make sure if there are any minor weird angles or size variances that the parts are cut accurately? I'd normally just cut them all the same size and install them. But then I've never put manufactured flooring on a stair tread or riser.
Thanks for making this video, I wish you hadn't edited out the cleaning the long slot, in my experience a lot of things go wrong while detailing. Do you mind posting a video teaching how to get clean detailing & clean corners. Thanks in advance
Hi I have been watching your videos for a while - they walked me thru my entire basement reno :) so thank you very much ...Now I've ripped the carpet off my stairs and im struggling to get the treads cut correctly. The stairs are curved and the steps are all pie-shaped.. the wall is to the left and open on the right ...any ideas on how I can match the tread to curve against the wall.
Hi Shannon : this This Stair Jig is such a time saver, I made one for my self and my helper both, now we can lay Stairs in Half the time , Thanks for sharing Love your videos New Subscribers James From Warrenton OR Warrenton Homes ,
I like the jig design. Helps with any deflection when doing a retrofit. I build new stairs all day every day in the NE of the USA and I am actually helping a neighbor do a retrofit which is out of my norm soon. May very well make thing jig you have shown. Paten that before rockler gets ahold of it... if they haven't already
Thank you Shannon. I'm glad that you didn't retire on April 1st. I am 62 years old and that is the worst I have ever been fooled on April fool's Day😂! I'm going to make this jig tomorrow, for my stairs.
Great video Shannon, I’m putting down new flooring in our house in May, so I will need to make a jig like this for our stairs. Thanks for the suggestion and example. Cheers from Ottawa. 👍🇨🇦

exactly, and if your stairs are completely straight and square then that would work, most stairs are not and this jig compensates for that . We will have our next video release showing how this jig is used.
WOW ! Why is my hat so cranked! LOL . Really, I was not drinking heavily that day! 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for watching everyone! #crookedhat
4 minute mark, it’s called a Trapezoid. Thanks for the content Shannon, I love your channel.
Great jig Shannon, very simple yet very useful for many applications 👍
Great video Shannon as always! If you can post a quick video with the jig in action that will be great 👍
that video is coming out in 3 weeks.
Thank you, I’ll be needing this jig in a couple of months.
ha, this would have helped me some when just finishing a floor tread project. Although luckily my walls were quite parallel so i didnt have many issues just taking measurements. in the bad spots just used glue and shavings.
Thanks 🙏
Good informative video

Absolutely , the same set up will help with a few types of projects
I happen to have a stair project right now and stumbled upon your channel. Thank you very much for making this video!! Much appreciated!!
It will work but a $60 Collins stair gauge has more adjustability and I don’t have to build it.
Great jig, I wish I had this before doing the laminate on my stairs. And that shape is a trapezoid.
LOl, see I knew you folks where smarter than me...Trapezoid ...got it thanks
Looks real unique, but for someone who has NO idea WHAT or HOW this is used a quickie shot of such would of been great
We have a video coming out in three weeks using the video to help install LVP flooring on stairs.
I just quickly flipped through this. Is there a point where you show it being used?

I don't have stairs but I watched your video anyway just cause I wanted to give you a thumbs up. Your instruction is always the best!
I appreciate that!
I must be dumb. I'm not quite understanding what exactly or how that jig is being used.

Thank you Shannon! Never occurred to me to just build it myself. I now understand the assignment!
Is this to just make sure if there are any minor weird angles or size variances that the parts are cut accurately? I'd normally just cut them all the same size and install them. But then I've never put manufactured flooring on a stair tread or riser.
Yes this will give you any slight angles that you have and the total length right into the corners.
Thanks for making this video, I wish you hadn't edited out the cleaning the long slot, in my experience a lot of things go wrong while detailing. Do you mind posting a video teaching how to get clean detailing & clean corners. Thanks in advance
Sorry , basically you just use the jig saw to file away the tight areas.

Try making a paper template.
trapezoid
Making one here shortly for a a set of LVP stairs I'm doing tomorrow.
Excellent simple design. I’ll be making one for my stair project.
Also, that shape is a trapezoid 😂

Thank you for the video, and im bot trying to be rude, but the rambling makes it super hard to follow
I'm a rambler, sorry. LOL
I would say you are the best 👌
I've never seen anyone plunge cut with a jig saw. Thanks for showing that. Now I don't have to buy a router. 👍🤪

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! EXACTLY what I needed!!!!
Great video. Canada's answer to Tom Silva :)
Thank you
Just what I needed for my stair reno! Great jig and DIY video! THKS.
Thanks Shannon. Great idea.
When you get a little older, you’ll wish you used a dust mask more often.
I'd paint it with dry erase paint so you can write notes on it while you work.
Interesting idea, I painted it white after.
Awesome idea! Thank you for helping me save some money!
Thank you for all of your great informative videos.
Another (tech tip) video to save.
Thank you!
I want to build a 3-step set of stairs for my older cat. ✅
Awesome tool, easy project. Thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing this video
How long is the middle piece? Thanks.
Adapt that length based on the project you are doing , In my case I think I made it 32" or something like that.
Thank you Shannon. I'm glad that you didn't retire on April 1st. I am 62 years old and that is the worst I have ever been fooled on April fool's Day😂! I'm going to make this jig tomorrow, for my stairs.
You can do it!
🆒️ thanks for idea 💡 😅

I don’t quite understand the use of this tool. Showing an example at the beginning or end of your video would be helpful.

Nice job thank you
Great Idea Wood Brother.
Great video thanks
anyone have the parts and supply list?
At the :50 mark i list off the materials and sizes
Good job, however,,,,a framing square has no moving parts.
exactly, and if your stairs are completely straight and square then that would work, most stairs are not and this jig compensates for that . We will have our next video release showing how this jig is used.
👍
Nice video Shannon, but you also can use your jig for enclosed shelving
yes for sure.
Trapezoid shape
amazing creativity , thank you
I wish you would have shown it used
Watch for a video in Feb. for how to use it.
Where's the Mask
Thank you!
Is there a jig set up for risers?
This same one will work in many cases unless you have a nosing on the treads then you would need smaller end pieces to accommodate the space you have
Great idea very helpful.
Home again home again jiggity jig
Awesome! Thank you
Long time subscriber. Love the channel.
You rock!
Found it sweet 👍👍

Thank you Shannon !
Cool idea!
