An interesting assortment, but pricy! I have misgivings about basement apartments because of flooding, rodents and security issues. I would not walk up five flights of stairs. That difficult access to the apparently-loved rooftop deck is puzzling. Most of these had laundry either in the building or in the unit, a big plus. All of them were expensive for the square footage.

"Even in a luxury apartment, not everything is perfect." NYC kitchens remind me of Transformers cartoons but not in a good way, and that one foyer where you have to close the closets to get to the front door, it's like an apartment building that transforms into an apartment building. As for size of bathtubs or 'walk in' closets, NYC apartments appear to be designed for short people like Crash or Tom Cruise. I'm pushing close to six feet, so I doubt I'd last a month living in Manhattan before I'd want to move to Brooklyn just so I can stretch. Seems people live in NYC apartment buildings just to remind them how nice it is to go outside.

Firstly, these are tenement buildings, so obviously the apartments are going to be small. They were originally not built for rich people and were meant for the low income poor residents for affordable options before the new landlords decided to turn them into tiny luxury condos for the wealthy people. The first one which is in Manhattan's Chinatown/Lower East Side. Before all that gentrification came into the neighborhood, the tenement buildings were affordable, but not in the best conditions and were mainly populated by immigrant populations and very often the bathrooms would just be a tiny stall with a door right in the kitchen area and the shower or bathtub would be right next to it with no walled/door privacy and no such thing as laundry machines. In that first apartment, it looks like before it was renovated into a fancy apartment, the bathroom likely was a smaller stall with the door being more closer to the toilet and the bathtub/shower likely was next to it in the kitchen area with no door/walled privacy and it looks like the stove was probably located a little further away from the bathroom, but after all that fancy renovation including placing in a laundry machine, the spaces got tighter and that may explain why the stove is too close to the bathroom door.
