Cats are gentle creatures. When you are depressed or crying because you are sad, have you ever noticed your cat snuggling close to you or staring at you with concern? Cats don't use their whole body to express their emotions like dogs do, but they are gentle creatures that will snuggle up to you when you are sad or depressed. Of course, they are not like dogs, who lick their owners' faces to comfort them or try to cheer them up with their whole body, but they just stay by your side in silence. I'm sure there are many cat lovers who have been saved by the gentle spirit of cats.
My local family owned pet store has a terracycle bin specifically for Open Farm packaging, hooray! I personally use the bone broths (all three flavors) to rehydrate the freeze-dried Stella & Chewy's recipes and it's such a winning combo with my girl!
Did you tried Verus pet food wet cat food is good quality products We Are Proud To Be A Veteran-Owned Business. I am bought the turkey, chicken and fish pate is very good my kitten is very picky eaters and ate all 🐈👈
I feed my cat 5 times throughout the day, but each time different. She has an 8 hour fast overnight. Churu tube, small amount of Open Farm wild caught salmon kibble (like really small), small can FF, Churu tube, small can FF. She is not being over fed as she doesn’t consume the entire amounts of each can. She needs the extra hydration to prevent struvite crystals. She gets 4.5 ounces of wet total per day. Can’t go away as the pet sitter would be a fortune monitoring her needs.
I’m so glad you reviewed them!!! I was waiting ☺️. I love Open Farm and I think it’s very important to mention that they’re not recyclable in your normal bin. They are partnered with terracycle which is a huge factor in why I love their brand in addition to tracing their ingredients and their sustainability and ethical mindset toward animals 🐈. My little one however decided he doesn’t like their food anymore but he did for a very long time. I’d be interested on your thoughts around Lotus Pet Food (raw) whenever you have a chance. Thank you for all the time and energy you put into filming. You and Jackson galaxy are my go to’s!!!!
Thank you! Very in depth review and thanks for doing a more in depth analysis. Vita tried the wet foods, bone broths, and both dry foods. She was not much of a fan of the wet foods due to the texture I think, but she is also a very fussy cat when it comes to wet food. The bone broths at times worked with cat food that had to be refrigerated as it added extra moisture. She is currently on the salmon dry food and she loves it. She gets a very small amount though. Her wet food diet is now about 75 per cent. Their dry food may be expensive but it is cheaper than Fromm. You also get a much bigger bag. The packaging is great. My cat still loves the food even though I have had it since the summer. The higher carbs concerns me though. I really thought it was a little higher in protein. Thanks for reviewing a Canadian brand!
Love the transparency, Rawz also does it. My cats like the dry, only moist i tried so far was beef and all 4 stuck up their nose. Will try another flavor eventually.
Thank you for reviewing Open Farm! I love Open Farm's Rustic Blend and Bone Broths! I love their sourcing and transparency! And my two cats love all the Rustic Blend varieties! 😻😻 I would have liked to see less carbs, but their sourcing is more important to me. No meat sourcing from factory farms, no farmed fish. Human grade, not feed grade (which has terrible ingredients). You'll never see meat by-products listed as an ingredient! Also, although they use synthetic supplements, the minerals are chelated, making them more bioavailable. About cost. Since 3 - 4 oz is usually the recommended daily amount per cat for healthy weight and slightly active cats, you won't need to use the whole container up in one day since it's 5.5 oz. To store the rest, I use two rubber bands around the container and put into a storage bag and into the frig. I have never paid $4 for a container of Open Farm Rustic blend. The regular price at Pet Supplies Plus near me is $3.38 per container. Of course, the price will vary depending on where you live. I imagine that the cost would be higher in California or New York, for instance. I buy it when it's on sale. The last time I purchased, I also had a coupon from Pet Supplies Plus. I paid $23.10 for 12 containers after the discount code was applied. A little less than $2 a container. Also, I have seen 15% off on their site and free shipping with a $50 order. I think it's for your first order. I have high standards for what I'll feed my cats. Most other canned or similar to canned type foods don't even come close to the quality of Open Farm. Many are feed grade, full of very harmful ingredients, some ingredients from diseased animals. That is allowed in feed grade. Our pets are family. Would you feed your children that? Of course not! Then please read labels carefully and learn more about the pet food industry. I recommend watching the "Pet Fooled" documentary on TH-cam.
Thanks for your honest opinion and going through the expense and time of the nutritional analysis! I give them a 10 out of 10 for their transparency and dedication to being "better" but cats are obligate carnivores, bottom line. If I'm going to spend $250 a month for my two kitties, I'm going to look for something more species-appropriate.
@@hakszz Right now, Darwin’s raw chicken or turkey is in our rotation. It’s my favorite and our girls really like it, but it’s expensive so we only feed it for about 4 months a year. Next up is canned Weruva Lamburgini, Stella & Chewy Carnivore Cravings Duck and Chicken, Fussie Cat lamb & pork, Dr. Elseys Clean Protein Duck (😂 not sure why all the duck!!! ). I try to feed a variety of meats.
I just bought some open farm turkey chicken dry food, I am switching them for blue buffalo wilderness after what I learned from your review big eye opener! But I also feed wet foods, fancy feast varieties, nulo when it is available and Tiki cat velvet line, may try other varieties. I give my two kitties 1/8 of a cup dry am and pm each and then 1/2 a pouch or 3oz can of wet food twice a day.

My cats love their turkey and chicken dry food. It is pretty expensive but they never get tired of it. My only gripe is that my local Natural Pawz store stopped carrying it. I might have to get on that subscription service.

Like the single protein or limited-ingredient varieties of some commercial low-priced brands, as well as the ones in mid-range or on the more expensive tier? I’m particularly interested in grain-free alternatives with no beef or chicken. Thank you!
The Open Farm wild caught salmon kibble is what I am feeding Vita still. it is a renal diet but it’s not strong enough for a cat with reoccurring struvite crystals. I started adding 1/4 of a teaspoon of Cranimals to a very small amount of kibble to give her kidneys a boost, and she had no accidents for about a week and a half. When I introduced FF salmon (wet) into her diet, that is when I noticed she wasn’t squatting while urinating (a sign she is in discomfort). This happened a couple of times but it’s back to normal today. I wish she would go for the entire Open Farm pet line but she hates the texture of the wet. I think I will try the bone broths again with her though. Would you consider doing a review on Cranimals powder (cranberry supplement)? Thanks
I tried the Open Farm dry food on our cats and it made both our cats urine ph go to 8 and 9. I don’t know why and they had to be on Hills CD for a while to get it down. No crystals or anything just cystitis from the ph rising. They did love the taste tho. They are both fine now ones back to eating raw and the other can’t eat raw so he’s back to eating Ziwi Peak Cans and Meat Mates.
Very interesting regarding higher ph balance. My cat Vita is on the dry and she gets a very small amount. Hard to tell if the food caused it as she also eats wet food to help with hydration. I also give her Churu treats. She had a little bit of blood but it seems to be gone now and she is still on the dry food (very small portion). The Fromm dry food didn't help her urine concentration before. I think what makes the difference is how much wet food she consumes on a daily basis. I aim for 4.5 ounces per day plus the water she drinks. I measure her food using a digital scale.
@@liveyouryoga One is one raw and the other is on Ziwi cans while having Open Farm for about a month in the morning. This was over 2 years ago. It’s not the cans and raw food because they have been on it for years, with no problem.

I like Ziwi Peak better. Open Farm made both of our cats urine ph rise and they had to go to the vet for Cystitis. This food isn’t for every cat. You have find what’s best for your cat.
My cat is 8 months old & she doesn't have a grt appetite, based on your reviews I just ordered a big chunk of ziwi wet and dry food. Should I mix this with another brand? Also it'll be grt to have a video on food portion if we're feeding both ❤
thanks for the in depth review! i recently moved countries and had a hard time figuring out what food to get for my cats, i ended up picking Open Farm and was super happy to find a good review! could you possibly do N&D cat food from Farmina?
Their bone broth contains cinnamon even though they market for cats and dogs. This can lead to high levels of koumarin and hurt their liver.. any thoughts on that?
My bengal was having a bit of loose stool and throwing his food (randomly not every day or even once a week. He’s on instinct dry and will not eat wet. and 8 months). The vet said he needs some grains and no raw dried !!! I said but he’s a bengal ! Are they right ? I don’t think so. Cats are meat eaters
I would encourage you to get a second opinion. Vets are not necessarily nutrition experts, and the fact is that cats do not require grains-did your veterinarian imply that this was a dietary essential? Grain simply isn't. Assuming that it's prepared properly, cat food can be nutritionally complete and balanced without any plant matter at all.
You have a bengal? How 😍 ! Surprised he didn't go for Instinct wet! I know a bengal who loved it when I gave her instinct limited ingredient wet. She even ate it cold straight from the fridge, and tore at it as if it was a carcass in the wild.
@@liveyouryoga I’ll try the wet lot instinct. I’ve tried other brands and it was a no ! He wouldn’t even try it. He will sniff and walk away. He does like freeze dried real chicken. And he does not like raw food. He was nowhere near amused by it. But if I gave him Temptations he acts like a dog and chase/jump me around the house for that little bag.
Honestly I see people complaining about this due to there cat urinary or whatever it is but my cat drink the bone broth and was perfectly fine with open farm it just happens to some cats but my cat had no issues with it thanks to god
While Open Farms' presents itself as more transparently sustainable than most pet food brands, it is not particularly healthy. One needs to keep in mind that their beloved cat is an obligate carnivore that inherently only thrives predominantly on ANIMAL protein and ANIMAL fat, as their natural diet would provide as prey. The only plant-based consumption is the minimal stomach contents of their prey. So. cat food brands that tout their pumpkin, legumes, peas, cranberries, blueberries, and other cost-saving plant-based ingredients and coconut, toxic canola or other plant-derived oils as nutritionally beneficial are deceiving the consumer when, in fact, ANIMAL fat/o[l. of a cat's prey., which is about 1/2 the percentage of the animal protein percentage in a natural obligate feline diet. Open Farms' crude fat% is well over 1/2 the crude protein percentage, while their crude protein percentage for their dry kibble is below 40% (too low) and their wet food is also low in crude protein percentage at a measly 8% when 10% for cat wet food is bare minimum. Remember animal protein/animal fat is what cats naturally thrive on. Grains, have no place in a cat's diet as cats are not inherently designed to assimilate grains and is the cause of IBS/IBD and feline diabetes. That said, Open Farms markets cat formulas with "Ancient Grains" which is poison for your beloved feline companion/s. Synthetic vitamins, also a cheap alternative to naturally sourced nutrients, are toxic, not only to your pet but to you, as well. There are a number of sustainable, RAW food manufacturers, that are most importantly transparent about the ingredients and guaranteed analysis of their pet food. A diverse raw diet, including secreting organs, similar to that which an obligate carnivorous cat would thrive upon, in the wild, inherently, is the rational, prudent and responsible choice, .for the benefit of your pet and yourself. What you spend for high quality raw pet food, which lasts longer and supports your cat's well-being,, you save in no health crisis/chronic illness vet bills. Stella and Chewy's and Honest Kitchen are two of a number of freeze-dried raw pet foods to use for transitioning to raw diet. Smalls and Darwin's brands are two of a a number of raw pet food brands, including those that include whole prey. I highly recommend the YT channel Jess Caticles.as a reputable, informative resource regarding the truth about the pet food market and best, healthiest options and brands for your pet's diet and how to transition your pet to a raw diet. The YT channel Paws of Prey also recommended: th-cam.com/video/5f53nOTr92Q/w-d-xo.html
yo Mallory! Is there any set schedule on when the cat behaviorist is live streaming? I have a couple of questions and i'd really like to ask them and I don't want to miss it :)
Hey Chum, we were previously hosting them every second Tuesday of the month, but we've run into some scheduling issues, and Tabitha is recovering from an illness right now, so I'm not sure about the future. You may be able to get answers to your questions during our next veterinary stream, which happens on the last Tuesday of each month (the 30th this month) at 1 PM Pacific time.
So happy to hear that, Colleen! We've sent a big batch of foods off for analysis, so you can look forward to more frequent cat food reviews in the future!
The "open farm grain-free turkey and chicken recipe" made my one cat pee blood and the other frequently urinate 👎👎. After spending over $200 on 4 bags of food and $1,000 at the vet to figure out the cause of this, we will be going back to their old food "beyond grain free Wild-caught whitefish and free run egg recipe"
Great video thanks. My cats favorite food Royal Canin Hair & Skin Care. they dont eat any other dry food they hate grain free dry food . i live in the country farm land so give them elk and raw deer cooked many times they like that . So cant be that crain free dry food taste just meat
I wish I would have seen this first. I just received my cat's first order and threw it in the trash. The phosphorus and sodium are too high. I don't want to risk it.
I purchased dry and can cat food. Surprisingly none of my cats (6 of them) liked either of them. Even when i mixed it with the chicken bone broth which i also purchased it from them. So no more open farm product for our household.
would this be false advertising on their end to advertise 7% carb when it's really 18% 🤔🤔 that's more than double seems sketchy. super disappointed because my cat likes this a lot. but I don't like feeling like I'm being lied to.
mallory i think you are my soulmate DONT THINK JUST ACT, THIS COMMENT IS FATE, one reply and you can start your journey to a happy ending. We both loves cats there is no ice to break!!!!
Where did you find that information? Every cat food has either legumes OR grains (with the exception of ziwi dry being the only one with neither that I’m aware of) I’m pretty sure cats need some carbs for overall complete health
That wet food looks like they are eating their own barf, I guess unlike humans, cats don’t eat with their eyes. 🤮 I have not seen this brand, will have to see if I can find it and see if my cats like it.
Recently I became vegetarian and I’ve been feeling weird when I feed my cat since it’s always meat based. I’m aware cats are obligate carnivores, but I’ve come across vegan brands such as Benevo and Evolution. Could you possibly do a review? It would make me feel a lot better about possibly switching over.
I wouldn't recommend doing a vegan diet for your cat. Cause by nature they're obligate carnivores and can lead to alot of health issues down the line. Genetically made to eat meat and there is certain nutrients that only meat can provide for carnivores. It is neither ethical (nor legal) to try and make a cat into a “natural” vegetarian, let alone vegan. Unlike humans, cats have specific nutritional requirements - especially for vitamin A, taurine, carnitine and arginine. Cats CANNOT manufacture these, they are not found in significant quantities in plant-based protein. It is however possible to synthetically supplement these nutrients using chemically engineered versions. However, it is worth remembering that there are significant environmental consequences to the complex organic chemistry needed to make these. Also, remember that even a short-term deficiency is potentially fatal.. so overall just stick with meat based diet if you truly want what's best for your cat.
@@jonathonho33agreed. A human can tolerate a 100% plant based diet whereas cats cannot, they are a completely different species and literally need meat protein in order to thrive.

Do you have any studies on whole hearted brand of cat food from petco
We haven't done the type of testing shown in this video, but we did review the brand here: allaboutcats.com/wholehearted-cat-food-review
@@AllAboutCatsYT Thank you for the link I booked marked it from one happy subscriber
Have you done Fromm? Love them and am switching over though to open farms.
Not like this, but we did publish a written review here: cats.com/fromm-cat-food-review
great video! please consider doing a review on Instinct :)
We will! Thanks!
I just ordered some of their wet and dry food for my 6 month old kitten since I'm thinking/hoping to switch her off Royal Canin. I hope this is all right to give her, the ingredients are high quality at least!
Did she like it?
So, which food(s) do you recommend? Is there a food that’s graded at 9/10 or higher?
🤔 😶 good great point of my thoughts and direction. Bet cha we wont know for quite awhile...but sooo glad u asked that
I like Ziwi Peak better. Open Farm made both of our cats urine ph rise and they had to go to the vet for Cystitis. This food isn’t for every cat. You have find what’s best for your cat.
Hi Cheryl, you can see our top brands ranked by grade here (select "sort by score:"): allaboutcats.com/cat-food-reviews
My cat is 8 months old & she doesn't have a grt appetite, based on your reviews I just ordered a big chunk of ziwi wet and dry food. Should I mix this with another brand? Also it'll be grt to have a video on food portion if we're feeding both ❤
Sounds good. Like the pumpkin ingredient. The code did not work for me on their web site.
Is open farm wet cat food in cans low in ash?
thanks for the in depth review! i recently moved countries and had a hard time figuring out what food to get for my cats, i ended up picking Open Farm and was super happy to find a good review! could you possibly do N&D cat food from Farmina?
We'll consider it! Thanks.
Hi, can you review the one call go! Solutions carnivore grain free chicken turkey, and another want call essence please.
Hi there could you please review Summit 3 meat dry cat food? Thanks
So what do you recommend?
Hi Mallory! Are you going to review any freeze-dried raw foods? Like Stella&chewy’s, primal, feline natural, the New Zealand pet food co, etc.
Definitely! This is something we plan to do within the next few months.
Their bone broth contains cinnamon even though they market for cats and dogs. This can lead to high levels of koumarin and hurt their liver.. any thoughts on that?
Hey there. That's a good question. To my understanding, cinnamon is safe in small quantities, but that is worth mentioning and exploring.
Thank you! I’m new to cat ownership. And just wondering if you’ll be able to do a food review on Acana since you haven’t yet?
Thank you so much!
It's being analyzed now! I hope to get back to you all with more details soon.
I love watching your videos there intresting
Can you please review Hills Science diet dry cat food. It's in all the major pet stores but I'm not sure it's actually good for my cats
It’s quality is close to Royal Canin lol
Where did you get that cat pillow lol
Yay I wanted to try this food for my kitten
Can you review and test open farms new line? Goodbowl chicken and rice and new canned wet food?
Can you please review Open Farm Goodbowl Harvest Chicken & Brown Rice Recipe for Cats?
Honestly $.70 seems pretty reasonable for me. I pay at least $1 and over per cat per day.
Could You please do a review on Made by Nacho from Bobby Flay
Yes!
@@AllAboutCatsYT my vet said he needs grains which is not what I’m use to hearing.
@@AllAboutCatsYT my bengal only like dry food and I do include freeze dried. I’ve increased protein. Thank you
You have a bengal?
Please take a look at kiwi kitchens. Thanks.
Great video! Can you please review NULO cat food. Thank you!!!!
@@AllAboutCatsYT Oh noes, I hope she feels better soon ;_; I'll be sure to be around on the 30th though. Thank you!
Hi Mallory
Do you offer a phone consultation, i have some questions and wanted to speak with you for guidance.?
Hi Eve, if you'd like to talk about this further, you can reach me at media@allaboutcats.com.
Talk soon!
I love these ♥️💖
So happy to hear that, Colleen!
Oh no. Did you try their wet food too?
How about homemade cat food? So we can all save more than 20% on our own?
@@samuelm.5752 that sux bro, I'm sorry that you suffer like that.
Great video thanks. My cats favorite food Royal Canin
Hair & Skin Care. they dont eat any other dry food they hate grain free dry food . i live in the country farm land so give them elk and raw deer cooked many times they like that . So cant be that crain free dry food taste just meat
They meat loving country cats!
so cute ❤️ 💝😋
I'm really trying to find healthy low carb wet and dry cat food for a cat with diabetes.
Hey, you might like our article on the best cat food for diabetes: allaboutcats.com/best-cat-food-diabetic-cats
Not at all sketchy compared to all store pet food 🤦🏼♀️ a slight 10% in carbohydrates is the least problem in cat foods nowadays.
It's disappointing that they add "Natural Flavour". I try to avoid it in my families food and my cats food.
Sis y r u doing this for free
I'm not! All About Cats earns money on affiliate commissions, ads, and from other sources, so I am paid to do this. :)
mallory i think you are my soulmate DONT THINK JUST ACT, THIS COMMENT IS FATE, one reply and you can start your journey to a happy ending. We both loves cats there is no ice to break!!!!
Legumes contain carbs. And that’s what I don’t get. Cats saliva can’t break down carbs. They don’t need it.
Where did you find that information? Every cat food has either legumes OR grains (with the exception of ziwi dry being the only one with neither that I’m aware of) I’m pretty sure cats need some carbs for overall complete health
Wondering letter 38
Mallory is the most beautiful woman on the face of the earth
That wet food looks like they are eating their own barf, I guess unlike humans, cats don’t eat with their eyes. 🤮 I have not seen this brand, will have to see if I can find it and see if my cats like it.
They have a store locator on their website :) it’s usually in smaller local pet stores!
@@jennyc5140 Thank you, I used to have an independent, small pet supply store near me but it closed. ☹️

On it! :)
