Great reaction. As stated in the comments below, the Budokan normally has a capacity of about 14000 (they sold it out two nights running in 2014 when they released their first album), but 2021 was subject to very strict rules because of the pandemic, so it was about half capacity for all 10 shows they played between January and April that year ... and everybody had to wear 2 masks, they could not shout or call out. They were allowed to clap, wave, stamp, jump, but had to stay by their seats - socially distanced, no moshing etc.
Crowd noise and chants were piped in - recorded from previous concerts where the songs had been played.
'Karate' was the lead single for the second album, released in 2016. It is about fighting on, getting up when life knocks you down, helping each other through hard times - and they picked karate to illustrate this as it is a Japanese martial art, so it reflects their culture - they were hoping it might get people interested in exploring that a little more through this song too.
The official video is a particularly good one if you want to watch that too. It shows very well what the song is about through the visuals with them fighting against their own inner demons as well.
This song and the official video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".
No wolf pack here - the hand sign is the Kitsune🦊or Fox (think shadow play fox - that was what the girls ended up doing when they were being shown the metal horns sign🤘and they stuck with it).

@@TRMReacts62812 My pleasure. I forgot to say about the Kami Band's masks. From their first appearance in October 2012 the Kami Band wore corpse face paint (kami means god or spirit, so they are the gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL).
At the start of the 2019 tour the face paint was replaced by the masks and when the US leg of the tour started the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced and have been supporting BABYMETAL in the lengthy foreign tours ever since ... the Kami Band East did all the Budokan 2021 shows of course and the first shows this year, the Kami Band West were in the Europe and the US and are continuing as things stand.
So no, the masks are not being used for the same reasons as you thought, it is just a style choice ... and most fans hope they will lose the masks and go back to the face paint some time.

Welcome back to the Fox Hole. I am sure others already explained some of your questions but I'll add a little just in case. The Kami Band started out with face paint and it was so much better then. We could see them interact with the girls at times (Hideki, the drummer, would make funny faces at the girls when they faced him during some of their choreography). We would see their personalities more and the fun they would be having playing for the crowds. They had their own intros to some songs as well. Each getting the spotlight.
The addition of the "Western Kamis" changed things and the mask were added. Most fans do not like the masks. Me included.

As this was from one of the 10 BABYMETAL Budokan shows during the pandemic, restrictions were in place. The arena was only filled at half capacity for social distancing, audience members had to be double-masked and were not allowed to cheer or shout. They could stomp their feet and pump their fists, but that was about it. The crowd noise you hear was recorded from previous shows and fed through the PA system for effect.
The sign is the Kitsune or Fox sign. In BABYMETAL lore, their patron deity is the Fox God who summons the metal spirits, empowering BABYMETAL to perform.

Loved your reacton. I'm a very new fan of Babymetal so my "facts" may be slighty off-please don't crucify me longer time fans. But what I've been able to piece together is throughout the Babymetal journey. The wonderful young women -Babymetal, have been backed by serious sessions musicians. Early on called the Bone Band. You can see them in the background of the most viewed version of "Gimme Chocolate". Later to be replaced by the incredible Kami band. These musicians dress in long white outfits and I believe are meant to represent spirits. Then there are another group of western musicians known as Kami band west. They dress in black and wear the masks seen in this video. Causing me to assume that this is the Kami band west backing the ladies here. They are all tremendously talented. And Sumetal has that something extra, whew. Hope that may be of help.

  • @actuallynotsteve
    @actuallynotsteve 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

So, as far as the Kami band goes - originally, they sorta had an all-star lineup of known Japanese metal talent. But they were frequently doing multiple projects, and were hard to book. They loved doing BM, but their schedule complicated the tours and availability.
The "Western/New Kami" band was a group of younger kids in a Star Wars metal band called Galactic Empire, and Amuse seemingly reached out because they were capable and able to become the Fox Gods.
When I found out that Anthony Barone, the drummer, is 25 as of this current tour, it hit my confidence hard. But Amuse seemed to know that a bunch of hungry Berklee students would be super down to permanently become the Fox Gods, and tour the world over, and here we are.
I love the OG Kami Band so much, but the current Kami band makes me so happy. They're getting to live the dream, and watch over the Metalverse while being on the biggest come up of all-time. It's way more on brand to have the Fox Gods on stage just being stoic and watching them perform, and I love this iteration of Babymetal.
They might be my favorite band, TBH.
They deserve so much love and respect, they nail it every single night and are able to be the focused backing band. Barone is a goddamn madman on drums, and he made me feel like a boomer in the best way possible.

    _Ossu!_ 🦊🤘🥋
This song is from 2016 so you can find a lot of versions of this when YuiMetal was still in the group before October 2017 of course.
Budokan 2021 marks their 10 years anniversary celebration and seal the Metal Resistance chapter along with another seal for the group, fortunately that seal is already broken since last year they were releasing new singles and kick start of the new metalverse era with a new BM side we've never seen before. Ending January, they held two live concerts at Makuhari Messe marking their return after almost two years without live performance since these Budokan live concerts anniversary series.
They fought against many enemies on this road and many more battles, but they manage to get through all of it, and this song is one of those strong weapons they had, to fight and conquer every metal heart that don't believe in them, Road Of Resistance is another highly recommend to check it out. Budokan is just a name for general martial arts place, there are other Budokan throughout Japan but this one in Tokyo is the most important and is big, this is the place any artist wants to reach when you're over the top, and they did it already in 2014 when they were even younger and having many struggles so they needed a revenge to pull away those ghosts from the past. Sadly this 2021 live concerts is half capacity due to restrictions all over the world and safety measures (guess you already know why), the crowd wasn't allowed to mosh'sh, crowd surfing or shout without face mask, instead they can stomp their feet, clap their hands or doing a human wave, at least they can do something to participate in this epic and memorable event, so the crowd sound you're listening here is a prerecorded track, but I'm pretty sure if they would've been allowed to shout, it would have been even louder.
Momoko Okazaki was the _avenger_ or third backup dancer filling the third spot in all these 10 live concerts as well in all the 2023 shows, she's MomoMetal now, an official member.
Karate lyrics is about keep fighting despite the obstacles but always looking for your friends help, that's why you see them helping each other in the bridge section, although if you look for the official MV you'll see revealing that there's no harder enemy than yourself.
Try also to look for live at Download Festival 2016 version, is even more beautiful during the bridge and with the full original trio.
More suggestion to keep learning about BM early era:
    - Headbanger!! live at Legend 1997, held in 2013. Gans Tomas got this clip safe to react under Head Bangya title.
    - Akatsuki live at Budokan 2014, "BM Fans Ecuador" got this. And after that:
    - Amore live at Wembley Arena 2016.
You can find all these songs from Wembley and Tokyo Dome 2016 with watermarked logo safe to react at Reactor Resource (BMRR), check "Future Plans" vid and follow instructions to get all of them.
The Kami Band in charge all these 10 nights at Budokan were the Eastern or Japanese band, now they have another crew when going on tour abroad we called them Western Kami Band, they've been using masks since 2019, prior to this Kami Band used to wear white face painted and burial robes as well to represent spiritual entities, so they were different from Slipknot and more close to Seikima-Ii, that's one of the bands KobaMetal took some huge inspiration in order to create a lore and hide identities. None of them are official members and they only play live, so when you hear studio album sound the Kami Band isn't there, except for Leda Cygnus (guitarist and bassist) on certain songs. Fans love Kami Band and that's why they researched info on who they are behind their hidden persona. This time, they are: ISAO and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums, all of them were pretty regular at live concerts since 2013 but until 2018 everyone remember Mikio Fujioka, a beloved guitarist who sadly passed away.
And the fox sign is also something created by the girls way back than any wolf or whatever other group shows up, but of course it took inspiration from the usual metal horn sign and they twisted with a kawaii touch, you will see a lot of songs with the Fox God imagery and showing some tribute behind, either lyrically or just with the visuals, one of them is Megitsune so check the official MV which is one of the best MV they got, same for Karate.
If you're looking for more basic info you can react to "A BabyMetal Guide" by CrypticMisery, is updated until early 2021 and is well structured and giving objective info about them. You gotta a short and long version, the long one got something more about the BM lore which should be updated with the new one along with some more news. There's also another more short and new guide with fair updates till this year called "So... What is BabyMetal?" by Briaghh.
    See you next time. 🦊🤘🥋

Well I might be falling on my sword from those more knowledgeable. The Nippon Budokan was built for the 1964’ish Olympics as a martial arts, or wrestling venue. It is a by an invitation only venue. I believe their first musical group was the Beatles. You might have heard of Cheap Trick live at the Budokan, or many others. For a comparison, the venue is similar to any basketball venue in the US, which in my town hosts the most popular bands. The venue size depends on the stage setup, as it’s built in the round. Let me take a big swing at capacity by saying 12-18,000. I can be wrong and would appreciate a correction, by a Japanese National.

In 2019 when the West Kami Band (comprised of world class musicians from the U.S.) joined the tours for concerts outside of Asia (East Kami Band for tours in Asia) both bands went to masks (no one is quite sure why). Most fans like seeing the musicians faces (even with the corpse paint) and hope that one day they will go bank to the way they were.

the band is told now to wear masks by the manager/ producer since the actual band isn't part of babymetal technically. that the only downside to them now for me. still love them but the band wearing masks I'm not to keen on. that's why some people say this is and idol metal group instead of an actual band. Babymetal fan always though 🔥❤🦊

The other reason being that BabyMetal has gone on for so long now that they have a rather large stable of backers/players that come and go (some in and out to their own bands since they technically AREN'T part of BabyMetal) so masks allow them more consistency in appearance and the ability to even change out members between songs.
TLDR: "BabyMetal" is a surprisingly large operation, so they're Members...but they're not Members, and they come and go as their own projects, bands, and individual songs they play on dictate.

    Nice! Budokan 2021 was a 10-day concert celebrating Babymetal’s 10 years.
Babymetal holds up the Fox Sign, instead traditional metal devil horns. Foxes are a major theme. Fans are called “Kitsunes (Foxes)” and The One. Babymetal is “summoned” by the Fox God, etc. Foxes are an important mythological creature in many Asian cultures.
#notacult - Well, react to “BABYMETAL DEATH” from Legend 1997 concert to understand why 😉.
Kami Band: starting in 2019, they got new outfits and became masked. Here’s my interpretation of why:
1). Official Babymetal is always just the girls. Kami Band is session musicians playing for Babymetal only in their live (not studio). Masks “help” focus on the girls. Myself, and many fans do not like this.
2). Since 2019, they added Kami West (Americans). So masks help maintain “consistency” in their visual appearance. Especially since Babymetal got older and performs a lot more vs when they were younger. This means the band members may switch out, as they may have other commitments (e.g., Babymetal did over 100 shows this year).

Another amazing Japanese bands is Asterism . They were a 3 piece instrumental rock band at the time of this video but have since added vocals . The lead guitarist is under 20 in this video and is what would happen if Stevie Ray Vaughn and Steve Vai hand a Japanese child . All 3 members are incredibly talented with the bassist playing a 7 string bass and a mental drummer . I suggest starting with Dawn . Here is a good link to the live video of it

Only The Kami Band , who is the usual band for BabyMetal plays without masks. If you see the band wearing madks then those are guest musicians
That symbol is for The Fox God.
They just left The USA a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully they will tour here again in a couple of years

The Kami Bands East and West have all been wearing masks whenever they have supported BABYMETAL since the start of the 2019 tour. They are all Kami Band members, none are "guest musicians".
