    I have a question. I live in Los Angeles. I may want to have more than 8 Repeater channels in my radio. Can I add additional repeaters (more than 8) with different PL codes and one of the eight frequency pairs?

    I have 3 of these radios now. I like it BUT "Not Super happy with it." It is a great radio, with one serious exception. In my area, we have a group of repeaters which all operate on 700 with seperate/split DCS codes on each repeater. This means that every time I need to utilize a different repeater I have to go through the set up process and change the TX DCS tone for the new repeater. This is kind of difficult when you are using the mobile unit in a moving vehicle on the freeway at any speed. It would be nice if BTech would modify the software to allow the ability to program the same channel over and over with different tones for different repeaters on the same frequency. Just one mans opinion.... WRFG362 K6DNK

      Great point. In my area, we have three repeaters, which are on three different frequencies, so it hasn't been an issue for me.

      @@TrailTraveler We have 9 repeaters btwn Truckee / Lk Tahoe and The Bay area, and Chico to the north and Stockton to the south, here in CA. My home is where I can hit 7 of the 9 repeaters, so whereever I drive I am pretty sure to be in radio contact with home base. I just have to pull off the road and change repeaters as I move around the region. The problem is they are all on 700 with the same RX tone and seperate TX tones

    If some one else is talking on the same channel as you are with a gmrs radio Can you key up when they are talking and talk over them if you have more power coming out of your radio than they have coming out of there radio???

  • @notsure7874
    @notsure7874 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a problem with that frequency chart - you absolutely CAN legally transmit on 8-14 with a GMRS radio. FRS shares GMRS frequencies (with some differences).
    FRS cannot use repeaters, but channels 1-22 are ALL shared between the two services. Power and bandwidth are different - FRS is always narrowband, GMRS can use wideband on 1-8, 15-22, and repeater channels.
    On channels 1-8, FRS is limited to 2w, GMRS is limited to 5w. Channels 8-14 both services are limited to 1/2 watt, and narrowband. On 15-22 FRS is back to 2w, GMRS is allowed 50w.
    So if that radio has transmit disabled on 8 - 14, that makes the decision whether or not to buy one really REALLY easy ...
    It's also not really clear if you can add multiple repeaters on the same GMRS channel (frequency pair) so you can have say - the GMRS 575 repeater programmed in multiple channel slot with different PL tones for different areas. If you have to edit the same channel to change the PL tone just to go from one repeater to another that's crazy.

    • @danielbierwirth2190
      @danielbierwirth2190 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The radio only allows 1 incidence of any repeater channel at a time, therefore it is necessary to reprogram the CTCSS / DCS tones to move among repeaters with the same frequency assignment. The new Wouxon 1000 has 200 programmable channels that will allow duplicate frequency usage with different CTCSS/DCS tones. However, it comes at twice the price.

    • @notsure7874
      @notsure7874 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielbierwirth2190 Twice the price to not have to fiddle with changing repeaters while driving? Worth it. Ridiculous since that radio is basicallyi a different program on a ham radio that has plenty of memory. I'm wondering if the Wouxun can transmit on 8-14 too. If not, I'm not sure if it's worth the money.

    Weather radio, is the ONLY way that you can be alerted to a crisis situation, being a Tornado, or terrorist event. If you are out in the boonies, your probably not listening to commercial radio (am/fm), but if one person has a weather radio with the SAME mode in it, you will be alerted to anything in your area. Flash floods, severe thunderstorms, and other situations. Please reconsider.

    • @TrailTraveler

    Can you add multiple configuration for a repeater channel? like 462.550. one with a tone only and another with DTCS?

  • @derf_the_mule1405
    @derf_the_mule1405 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You transmit on lower power to save your transmitter heat and therefor longevity. Does it allow additional repeaters setup on additional channels or do I have to find the CTCSS/DCS code for each repeater that I intend to use on the existing repeater channels?

    • @TrailTraveler
      @TrailTraveler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is compliant with the correct output power on each section of channels. It has a limited number of channels that you can setup for repeaters.

    • @danielbierwirth2190
      @danielbierwirth2190 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The radios software only allows for 1 instance of any channel at a time. Therefore you must change the CTCSS/DCS tones everytime you wish to utilize a different repeater which operates on the same frequency. You cannot program multiple instances of the same repeater pair.

    • @TrailTraveler
      @TrailTraveler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, GMRS radios use a different frequency. It offers more range, clarity, and features. If you have repeaters near you, it can connect to them as well. Most Jeep events now require GMRS radios for these reasons. Here in Colorado, GMRS is very quickly taking over CB.
