Thank you for this review! So much great info and I really appreciate it! I want to get my hubby an upgrade to his 4th generation iPad. In the past he mentioned not needing the latest Air/Pro versions since he uses his iPad for general purposes and playing games. No need to spend a huge amount of $$$.

Regarding the external drive, I had a similar experience with my 1st gen iPad pro and a Samsung T5 (1TB). The workaround I found was to use a powered USB hub. It is far from ideal, but got the job done.
@@balasubramanin8903, smaller "pen/thumb" drives should be ok, but larger drives draw more power from the device and lighting based iPads are not designed to provide enough. The workaround is to use a powered USB hub so that the drive gets the power from there instead.
Finally. Thanks for a thorough review. 128 GB is simply the better choice for long-term use. I'm just wondering if I can connect the iPad to a large monitor, and if it will work with any Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

Not a portable solution but I have read that external hard drives that need more power will work with a powered USB hub. The charging cable on the camera adapter seems to be at least mostly charging the iPad but not providing power for the external device.
I’m a senior student who has to do a lot of infographic edits, poster making, video editing submission, research editing and all that. Do you think that the 8th gen iPad would be ideal for me? Also, since the Apple Pencil is too pricy for me (I am a student, please be understanding), can you recommend another stylus that would work well with the iPad?
You will be able to accomplish all those tasks on the iPad 8. The Air 4 will be more powerful but I understand budget is an issue. Look at the logitech crayon or even this option: amzn.to/3iU7DEJ
My iPad is several years old. I use the same wireless keyboard that you have been using with yours. This one is my third iPad purchase. I always try to buy the largest storage I can afford. It was a no brainer to get the 128 for less than $100 more. One of the things that bothers me with the higher end iPads is the loss of the head phone jacks. I purchased another one for my wife. I would probably try the iPad Air next, but I’m use corded Bose head phones. I have a desktop and laptop windows computers that I rarely use. The new apple computers are tempting, but I really don’t need them.
Really grateful for your video ! You're the first guy to give me the confidence to opt for the 32gb model ( and maybe an external ssd ). I don't need an ipad to edit 4k video and do the 'heavy lifting'. I just need a decent tablet for the simple stuff and portability. Thanks again.
I just bought mine with 32gb. I was kind of scared regarding the storage capacity, but now I'll just simply buy the external ssd. Thank for the video, it was really helpful for me!!
Which one i should buy? Ipad air 3 64 gb or ipad 8 128 gb since they are same price in my place. Both has the same processor and ram but different storage sizw
After watching a bunch of reviews about the 8th gen I finally bought it. Love your channel very informative and not biased. Can’t wait for mine to arrive 😍😍
9:06 The 10.5 inch and second gen 12.9 inch iPad Pro use USB 3.0 speeds over lightning; the other iPads, including the 8th gen iPad, likely use USB 2.0, probably causing the incompatibility.
I just got mine a month ago, I picked up the 32gb version and I couldn’t be more happy, since I have cloud storage such as drive and iCloud, that allow me to use the iPad storage for my apps, you won’t regret guys!
First video of yours I’ve ever watched, I currently own an iPad Pro, was indecisive about getting my mom the iPad 8th gen for Hanukkah, I think your honest review convinced me to get it for her. 🙂 thanks!
Your delivery and info are good. I watched several of yours. I just returned a refurbished an iPad Air 2 that was junk: $250. Opting for an iPad 8, 128GB brand new for like $100 more, at present, may shop after Christmas for further sale savings... Nice work and thank you.
Another terrific video. Here's my reality. As a prospective first time purchaser of an iPad, your iPad videos challenge me - in a good way. Ideologically, I very much like the idea of the onscreen keyboard as an important feature of the iPad as an independent touch device in addition to not liking at all what I consider the expensive, poorly designed apple smart keyboard. But, as with your other videos about this range of devices, you provide an easy to understand review of the actual UX of the iPads. I would love you to review your UX of the apple Magic Trackpad 2 with the iPads. Thought-provoking and invaluable content.
I’m planning to buy an iPad when I start graduate school. Do you recommend the 32GB or the 128GB if I plan on airdropping all my files to my MacBook Pro?
I have set up my ipad mini so it's entirely possible for me to do most things I need for work on it. Just in case. I haven't really needed to yet, but I do use it to check our databases quite regularly, it works wonderfully to run a quick query on a separate screen.
I am thinking about buying this Ipad for the rest 3 years of my college, the only tasks will be to watch online videos and taking notes, should I go with it or but Ipad air

Bro I'm Planning to take 32gb variant (I've watched your storage comparison) But I'm having doubt After few months does the app size will increase like If the MS Word app Consumes 272 mb when it gets installed and I'm just creating few documents maximum of 20 mb then the app size will be around 292 mb but I want to you ask if I keep the app like this (idle) only will the app size increase if I'll just open and view the documents ?? Means slowly slowly the app shouldn't cross 300mb of storage! Please answer !

So happy to see this channel. I was actually discouraged to buy 8th gen bcs of the non-laminated screen bcs i like to draw, but i think it is okay and budget friendly since I'm buying macbook air also and some apple accessories
They work amazingly well for what I need for my real job. Two center monitors are using for coding and a reference document. Other four for photoshop, illustrator and two browsers.
I bought an iPad Air 3 about 18 months ago and it is faulty (common touch problem with this device). I now need to buy a replacement and it’s so hard to decide. My three options are: 1. iPad 128gb (I already have 1st gen pencil) - £409 2. iPad Air 64gb + 2nd gen Apple Pencil - £641 3. iPad Pro 128 GB + 2nd gen Apple Pencil - £805 I could sell my 1st gen pencil for around £55 The iPad Air 3 is all that I need and I really like it but even with the deals I’m not prepared to risk buying it again. I plan to use the iPad for hand writing university notes, TH-cam, surf web and possibly in future I might even buy a Logitech case so I can type on Overleaf with it. I love how the iPad can come with 128gb amount (I can definitely get by with 64GB but always nice to have more) but I only have 2 concerns: 1. The use of the pencil with a non-laminated display 2. Will the A12 processor be good for the next 5 years (I don’t like to buy new tech all the time) If these are non-issues then I guess I’d go with the iPad. My only concern with the Air is if you’re paying a lot more for not much gain. Is the A14 much superior to A12 and would Air last much longer? Which of the iPad would you recommend? (I’m sorry for this essay)
You have all the variables nailed! If you are ok with the gen 1 pencil - it sounds like the iPad 8 128 is plenty for what you need. Of course the a14 is newer and more powerful, but will you actually use that power?
@@TechGearTalk Thank you very much for your reply. I probably wouldn’t be using all the power - but if iPad Air would last more years then maybe it better option. How do you find writing on non laminated display?
I just bought this with a first gen pencil; the pencil came with a female adapter for the lightning cable and the pencil so you can plug it into the wall instead of the iPad
Couple of remarks: 1. the samsung 500MB SSD works fine, 1TB doesn't , but it works on all lightning ipad pros except the 9.7 2. The screen is nothing special, but compared to a TN screen of a older macbook air it's clearly better, since it's IPS. Nowadays, the vast majory of laptops have iPS displays or better 3. Portability is a bit of a relativy word if you need to carry in addition to the tablet and keyboard a SSD, 2 cables, adpter, plus a powerbank just to use external storage... when using external storage UBS C devices are much more "portable" and convenient

Thanks bro... I like the way you explained about different SSD support with ipad 8th gen. My doubt is clear.. thanks
Glad I could help. Thanks for being part of the channel 🙏
Glad I could help.
I just bought mine with 32gb. I was kind of scared regarding the storage capacity, but now I'll just simply buy the external ssd. Thank for the video, it was really helpful for me!!
The Apple Pencil 1st Gen has an adapter which has female lightning to female lightning in the box :)
Great report. Got my wife the iPad 8 and she loves it. I love my iPad Pro 12.9
Which one i should buy? Ipad air 3 64 gb or ipad 8 128 gb since they are same price in my place. Both has the same processor and ram but different storage sizw
iPad 8. You'd be surprised how much storage you'll need
I whatched your videos and i bought ipad8 32gb today. Thank you buddy. From Turkey
After watching a bunch of reviews about the 8th gen I finally bought it. Love your channel very informative and not biased. Can’t wait for mine to arrive 😍😍
Thank you for the feedback and for being part of the community Danielle 🙏
9:06 The 10.5 inch and second gen 12.9 inch iPad Pro use USB 3.0 speeds over lightning; the other iPads, including the 8th gen iPad, likely use USB 2.0, probably causing the incompatibility.
I just got mine a month ago, I picked up the 32gb version and I couldn’t be more happy, since I have cloud storage such as drive and iCloud, that allow me to use the iPad storage for my apps, you won’t regret guys!
thank you so much for this video, i love the part of external memories
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for being part of the channel.
Mine is on the way , I will be using it for mostly for digital planning.
is this good for student like me that only want to do notes, watching movies and reading book?
Yep!
@@trulyfog Oh, thankss 🥺
First video of yours I’ve ever watched, I currently own an iPad Pro, was indecisive about getting my mom the iPad 8th gen for Hanukkah, I think your honest review convinced me to get it for her. 🙂 thanks!
Glad I could help Gracie! Congrats to your mom - and thanks for being part of the channel.
Got the Air after watching this video, I don't regret it at all.
So glad it was helpful!!
Your delivery and info are good. I watched several of yours. I just returned a refurbished an iPad Air 2 that was junk: $250. Opting for an iPad 8, 128GB brand new for like $100 more, at present, may shop after Christmas for further sale savings... Nice work and thank you.
Appreciate the kind words 🙏🏻 so glad I was able to help. Thanks for being part of the channel.
I'm sorry, but, Ross, from Friends... lol
We were on a break!!! 😂🤣
Replying every comment...you are really amazing!!!!
I do my best
If you're not storing a lot of files on the ipad or installing a ton of huge apps, 32GB is enough
@@TechGearTalk Thanks for the informative video and taking the time to share your insight! It's very helpful
I have set up my ipad mini so it's entirely possible for me to do most things I need for work on it. Just in case. I haven't really needed to yet, but I do use it to check our databases quite regularly, it works wonderfully to run a quick query on a separate screen.
The best review , just want you to add on note taking and making slide presentations
Good idea. Both work great by the way.
Best review of this ipad for sure , a well deserved sub from me , keep it up
Much appreciated!
I'm going to buy this for my study purpose 32 Gb...How many gb system takes? And what about study offer
iPad came up with about 14GB preinstalled. But you can still remove things like Garage band which is 1.7Gb, etc. Thanks for being part of the channel!
System as of now takes up around 10 gb after uninstalling all crap stuff
32gb is not enough... i'm 8 weeks into my first semester in college and my ipad air already took up 15gb
I am thinking about buying this Ipad for the rest 3 years of my college, the only tasks will be to watch online videos and taking notes, should I go with it or but Ipad air
Go for the 8 man.

It really helped me a lot.
Thx man✌️

This is a very good video. I had all these questions in my mind. Thanks for making it.

I'm Really Loving The IPad 8 I Have To Get Me One!
Hope the video was helpful.
Thank you very much because of you I decided to buy this ipad and i want to thank you alot keep your good job i am a big fan now
Bro I'm Planning to take 32gb variant (I've watched your storage comparison)
But I'm having doubt
After few months does the app size will increase like If the MS Word app Consumes 272 mb when it gets installed and I'm just creating few documents maximum of 20 mb then the app size will be around 292 mb but I want to you ask if I keep the app like this (idle) only will the app size increase if I'll just open and view the documents ??
Means slowly slowly the app shouldn't cross 300mb of storage!
Please answer !
It should not increase in size unless they release updates that take up more space (but even then, it won't be a huge increase).
you definitely shouldn't get the 32gb, after a few months you will regret it so bad, money wasted
@@betzy94 I'll not be gonna do anything entertainment or gaming on it just open the documents and zoom meeting that's it
Thanks for your answer 😃
So I'm not the only one who doesn't like track pads. Logitech Slim Folio recommendation plus discussion of storage trials and recommendations equals valuable information for me. Subscribed.
Why does nobody ever talk about how the Apple Pencil comes with a lightning charging adapter.
It definitely does
I appreciate that plug at the end. 💯💯💯💯 My guy man
Just saw this. #fail
Everyone knows space grey is the best colour for the 8th gen
Correct! I just wanted the white bezel for this one 😂🤣
@@TechGearTalk Why white bezzels ?
@@mrx9025 why black basels? I am very confused about the color, plz help me. My favourite color is silver, then gold, and at last space grey. But if i have to go for black basel, i need to pick my least favorite color. Why do people prefer black basel ? White looks cool. But is it distracting??
@@nishantgautam7627 No no . White bezzels are really good . That touch id circle looks really good on white bezzels . Black bezzels are dust magnet and you'll see much fingerprints on it and black bezzels are really more reflective which is annoying and irritating . But I would prefer Gold instead of silver bcz silver really looks cheap. I hope you find it helpful .....
@@mrx9025 ok bro thanks a lot. Someone told me, white bazels distract while watching media, and while studying, but black just blends in. This is not true right??
Thank you for this video! This was super helpful and informative!! Great work!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for being part of the channel!
When you don’t type you write with the Apple Pencil
Depends on the task
So happy to see this channel. I was actually discouraged to buy 8th gen bcs of the non-laminated screen bcs i like to draw, but i think it is okay and budget friendly since I'm buying macbook air also and some apple accessories
Glad this was helpful. Appreciate you being part of the channel!
6:44 where to buy this?
I put a link in the description. Hope that helps. Thanks for being part of the channel!
Excellent review with plenty of useful info, a huge help.
At first I thought: "Oh nice vid" and then I saw his monitors...
They work amazingly well for what I need for my real job. Two center monitors are using for coding and a reference document. Other four for photoshop, illustrator and two browsers.
Tech Gear Talk Yes I was just joking, looks pretty good altogether!
I bought an iPad Air 3 about 18 months ago and it is faulty (common touch problem with this device). I now need to buy a replacement and it’s so hard to decide.
My three options are:
1. iPad 128gb (I already have 1st gen pencil) - £409
2. iPad Air 64gb + 2nd gen Apple Pencil - £641
3. iPad Pro 128 GB + 2nd gen Apple Pencil - £805
I could sell my 1st gen pencil for around £55
The iPad Air 3 is all that I need and I really like it but even with the deals I’m not prepared to risk buying it again.
I plan to use the iPad for hand writing university notes, TH-cam, surf web and possibly in future I might even buy a Logitech case so I can type on Overleaf with it.
I love how the iPad can come with 128gb amount (I can definitely get by with 64GB but always nice to have more) but I only have 2 concerns:
1. The use of the pencil with a non-laminated display
2. Will the A12 processor be good for the next 5 years (I don’t like to buy new tech all the time)
If these are non-issues then I guess I’d go with the iPad.
Couple of remarks:
1. the samsung 500MB SSD works fine, 1TB doesn't , but it works on all lightning ipad pros except the 9.7
2. The screen is nothing special, but compared to a TN screen of a older macbook air it's clearly better, since it's IPS. Nowadays, the vast majory of laptops have iPS displays or better
3. Portability is a bit of a relativy word if you need to carry in addition to the tablet and keyboard a SSD, 2 cables, adpter, plus a powerbank just to use external storage... when using external storage UBS C devices are much more "portable" and convenient
