- Thanks to my good friend Andrew for taking me here this day with lots of History in this Cemetery Buried beneath our feet. Here is a little history below, enjoy.
Monroe Street Cemetery has remained public under three jurisdictions: Brooklyn Township, Ohio City, and Cleveland. When Ohio City was incorporated in March 1836 the township cemetery became the city cemetery, although perfecting its title was accomplished by another deed in 1841. Then in 1854, Ohio City was annexed to Cleveland, the cemetery became simply known as "the west side cemetery" until the late 1890s. There are more than 500 persons in the cemetery who served in the armed forces and saw duty during the American Revolution, War of 1812, The Mexican American War, the Civil War, The Spanish-American War, and Both World Wars. There are two mayors of Cleveland buried here, accepted and free masons and Oddfellow's as well. So much history of who is buried here and there stories, I can go on forever. I will leave a link below for of the history here. #explore #cemetery #cleveland
