2011 was a very important golden year for hip hop and myself. A$AP/Raider Klan, Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, Underachievers, Action Bronson all blowing up in NYC. Plus you had Top Dawg entertainment presenting Black Hippy at the time. Mac/Wiz were on top. Such good times...I really miss that era of rap.

Wow, thanks for this Lore. Always saw ASAP Yams and figured that he was just one of the founders of the group that passed but I underappreciated who he was. He was literally the brains of a massive unit. You can see that the sense of direction of the Mob was in utter disarray after he died and to this day it's never been the same.

Anyone who knows anything about addiction/rehab knows EXACTLY what happened to Yams. Bro got clean for a while and zeroed out his tolerance... then jumped back on & thought he could do what he was doing before (8 Xan bars?! My God. If you know, you know lol). And so he overdosed on amounts he'd prolly done 1000x. But his tolerance wasn't there to support it. It's SUPER common.
That’s why relapsing sends people to the grave and addicts who never get clean keep on living another day. It’s insane.
It's crazy to me that he was so driven and focussed when he was barred out of his mind on xans. Imagine what he could have accomplished sober

I’ve never understood this & I’ve been around overdoses in my family for my whole life. If I were addicted & I were to relapse, I would think to start small again. Just one pill because of the tolerance. I understand there is a tolerance for the high, & a tolerance for your body. Do they go hand in hand? Unless your body tolerance zeroes but your brain tolerance (lack of better term/how high you actually feel), stays the same, that’s the only way I can rationalize overdosing by going back to the original dose you were doing in the first place. Like as if they’re thinking, “I don’t feel high at all. I’ll take two more,” & then they pass.

To answer your question tho, have you ever heard of the phrase "chasing the dragon"? It means you're always looking for that high you got the very first time(s) you used. Which is somewhat impossible. So when you get sober & then relapse, it's like the "golden opportunity" to get that feeling you got when you first used, precisely because your "body tolerance" as you say (lol), has zeroed out.
Once you're back using daily, the high is never the same. It's a dirty little secret that will make NO sense to a non-addict, but after using for a while, you really don't get high anymore. Not *really*. You basically use just to feel "normal", and to avoid withdrawals. If youre unfamiliar, withdrawal is the single worst feeling humanly possible. Doctors say its like getting the flu, but its more like getting the plague. Its quite literally like being tortured. It's THAT bad.
Back to the point tho, once you get sober & relapse, the first couple times you use again are your ONE chance to feel the high that got you addicted in the first place. Chasing the Dragon. THATS the dragon. It's your one chance to *actually* get high again, so you want to absolutely maximize that feeling. So ur gunna do the absolute maximum amount you *think* you can handle. But your sober body cant actually handle it. And then you die.
Come to think about it, your "body high" and "brain high" thesis is pretty Fn accurate. I'm just trying to explain *why* this happens so often. Chasing the Dragon.

The reason rocky blew up was because when he was making Live Love A$AP he was inspired by Houston chopped & screwed and his mixture with that culture was a badass creation. His later albums seemed demonic and it didn’t have the Houston flavor .

Aside from the mob, YAMS had a heavy influence on New York and the Best Coast movement. We honestly have no clue how far YAM$' influence and success was going to go. Losing him probably crippled the success of several artists like Bodega Bams and other names who didn't even have a chance to come up.
