Saw her once in Massey Hall in Toronto, some time in the 90's, I couldn't get any of my friends interested, so i went by myself. i couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe the power in her voice, and her performance was like 3 hours long. One of the best live music experiences of my life.
I've said it before and i will say it until my last breath it is a crime why Amanda Marshall is not more well known.I have been a HUGE fan for 26 years.Amanda please please come to London. I know many years ago you supported Whitney Houston and i missed you by 1 day as i rang up the record company in london.i cant tell you how GUTTED i was to miss by 1 day !!!! X
Another gem from Canada! What an amazingly powerful song..."and as she drives she rubs her rosary; she's never been so all alone, she's never been so free"...."'Cos there's another chance, a someday soon, shining like the Alabama moon..." sung with a voice unique, powerful, forthright and beautiful. I can imagine some one stuck in the horror of her own Virgil Spencer nightmare feeling inspired and empowered to leave after hearing this masterpiece of musical beauty. OMG.
I love Amanda Marshall. She's got this great empowering aura to her. I don't know why she isn't bigger than she is... i've loved her for 10 years and would gladly play guitar for her.
Can't believe I've lived on this earth for 60 yrs and am just now getting Amanda Marshall to my ear ! Thank you Jenny Marriott for posting this !! I'm in Heaven right now !! (or is that Birmingham ?...)
Where has Amanda Marshall been the past 5 years!! I just loved her back in 95.... and I see this..and I just love her more than ever... I want to see her live!
I saw her live in a Phoenix club Jets and Sticks with just her a guitarist and a keyboardist.... They were all sitting on stools... She put on one of the best live performances from that stool than I've seen, and I've seen multitudes of live bands.
This song played on the radio the day I move my sister out of her ex- boyfriends place it was said but a new beginning for her just a reflecting song on hurt love, my sister is the best she has been their for me in my time of need thanks sis love your bro, john
Just saw Amanda this weekend at Casino Rama! She just keeps getting better. Apparently she's been embroiled in a law suit with the management she fired in 2002 (& recording label). The lawsuit is on-going & whenever everything is settled she will be back. She's compiled a great deal of new material in the last 8 years & has been working in the studio. I get the impression we won't have to wait too much longer.
I've loved her since first hearing her on the "My Best Friend's Wedding" soundtrack. SUPERB voice, awesome lyrics, great performer. AMANDA - more songs, please, pretty please!!
I seen her do this live and I got the biggest goosebumps I've ever had during any performance...her voice is indesribeable.(sic).. I was in my late 30's....if you were 12........ damn you missed a great performance....one not likely to be repeated.
I won tickets on her website to attend this concert. It was taped in 2 show, the first at 8 Pm and the second (with the audience shot) was at 10 PM. You see me often on the whole DVD as I was in front row :)
Not sure what year it was, but went to see Mellencamp live, and the band the Why Store were warm ups.. I had heard of the Why Store from the radio, but it was my first time for Amanda and she was great.. I never did hear her on the radio because I mainly listen to classic rock station.. but she left enough of an impression on me that here I am on TH-cam about 25 years later.. and she still sounds great
I think the key to her popularity is not just that she's extremely talented at writing and performing and not to mention not so hard to look at but it's also the angle she takes on her music. This song could have been a sad song about domestic abuse but she took the positive angle and spun it around to inspire others to make changes and take chances when others try to hold you down. Brilliant!!! And she does it with damn near every song! Positivity that's what she's about.
Many thanks to the poster here, but it sure would've been ultimately cool to get the last ten seconds of so of this performance. Amanda really rocks it out here, and takes it to the nth degree squared. This woman is amazing, and then some!
In may 2009 she announced she was in the studio recording a new album set for a 2010 release. Itll be her first album ( other than the 3 greatest hits albums) since 2001. Thats a longgggg time off.
This Song was a Top 20 Hit on Adult Radio and it almost broke the Top 40 on the Billboard Pop Singles Chart, but it did on Radio and Records and plus, this song is so cool and so smooth, I use to listen to this song when I was in High School and boy do I remember it very well b/c I use to listen to this song on Casey's Top 40 with Casey Kasem and thanks to Casey's Top 40, I'm glad that I can relive this moment and this is what I call REAL Music, not some of the Pop Music Today with no meanings.
I had a listen ...great ! A singer you might like (if you have not heard her) is Patty Smyth...she used to sing in a band called Scandal ,has one solo album...and is now married to John McEnroe ...cheers Dunk
saw her live. tiny little girl. biggest , best voice i ever heard live. american idol chicks are a joke live next to her. no justice in the world as to who gets famous i guess.
Hi, Yes got both Romeo's Daughter albums (love the first one...mutt langs production) ...met Merv a couple of times, used to play in a band and the singer was good friends with him. Coincidentially I played in a band called "pride" ...the manager Dave King produced the first FM record and managed them for a while ! Are you on facebook or myspace...if so look me up and put me down as a friend ...my name is Duncan Sykora ( not many of of those !) ...cheers Dunk
For all the talent that Amanda has her cds have not sold well here, she sells better in Canada. After her third release her record company dropped her and why she hasn't had another record company sign her IS THE BIGGEST MYSTERY EVER. She does acouple of gigs a year, but with all this talent she has pretty much fallen off the face of the earth. It's sad and the only answer is may be she likes it like it is. WHAT A WASTE OF PURE TALENT. PEACE, AMANDA I LOVE YOU AND STILL HOPE.
Look at 4:55, when she let's it rip, how far from her mouth and in side she keeps the microphone. This is because she tries to prevent it sounding too loud, meaning that this lady sings really really loud. Talk about energy! I love her albums, but even more I respect her live show's (cont)
Every artist has recordings that don't sell wello, the questions is how can not ONE RECORD COMPANY PICK UP A ARTIST THAT HAS THIS MUCH TALENT. She's in limbo with most people not missing her until they hear one of her songs, then it's like that girl could sing, "what happend to her" We don't know. I have to feel it's Amanda not wanting to perform because I CAN'T SEE A RECORD COMPANY PASSING ON ONE OF THE BEST VOICES IN 20 YEARS.
The complete and visually much sharper version see: th-cam.com/video/BIaEwRyZLZw/w-d-xo.html *See also my playlist "Amanda Marshall"* with all her studio recordings and almost all of her live videos and interviews which can be found here on TH-cam.
At 6:52, drummer Al Webster got his snare swapped by backstage staff after broken skin. He didn't skip a beat! Gotta look closely to see snare flying off...
one way street !! It was a pain that was hard to kill !!! and man I sure have wasted alot of years !! It is getting better I have Stephanie now !! Stpehanie says mom they believe me !!!! so alone wow that is the truth !!! It is getting better !!! Shine on !!! Its okay to be okay its okay to be not okay !!!!! How few there are who have courage enough to own their faults or resolution admitting faults does not make you weaker person !! Ben Franklin hmmm I won't give up !!!!!!!!!!!!
- in this fake world of Antares AutoTune -induced over-pretty pop stars that sound fine in albums but are terrible out of tune in live shows (Enrique Iglesias / pssy cat dolls for example) - this Grand Lady of power rock singing is REAL. She really really really is that good. (And for those who do not know, Antares AutoTune is a nifty tool for studio engineers, that can make even Daisy The Cow to sing in tune, any melody they want. It is commonly used in RnB / Pop records nowdays)
Saw her once in Massey Hall in Toronto, some time in the 90's, I couldn't get any of my friends interested, so i went by myself. i couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe the power in her voice, and her performance was like 3 hours long. One of the best live music experiences of my life.

My favorite all time female singer ...Class with a capital C ! ...discovered her by accident about 10 years ago...loved her ever since.
Underrated....
one of the finest singers in Canada--and she should be a superstar-what's wrong? She SHOULD be # 1 on the charts!
The most underrated artist of all time. Jer music and vocals are second to none.
I choke up whenever I hear this song, so it is great to hear this live version, which celebrates freedom. dance Amanda dance.
Can't believe I've lived on this earth for 60 yrs and am just now getting Amanda Marshall to my ear ! Thank you Jenny Marriott for posting this !! I'm in Heaven right now !! (or is that Birmingham ?...)
i envy anyone that has seen her live. she has an energy and power i've never felt before. i own two albums and still marvel when i listen to them.

Wow... She's really an energetic performer. Makes you wish you were there to see it live.
Where have I been all these years? Great artist, great song, great band, and inspired performance.
Just saw Amanda this weekend at Casino Rama! She just keeps getting better. Apparently she's been embroiled in a law suit with the management she fired in 2002 (& recording label). Amanda Marshall what a great voice and personality!!
Good voice yes. Personality ? Met her once just before she got bigger. Personality was not one of her stronger points.
I've loved her since first hearing her on the "My Best Friend's Wedding" soundtrack. SUPERB voice, awesome lyrics, great performer. AMANDA - more songs, please, pretty please!!

Many thanks to the poster here, but it sure would've been ultimately cool to get the last ten seconds of so of this performance. Amanda really rocks it out here, and takes it to the nth degree squared. This woman is amazing, and then some!

97.7fm or q107
I think this concert she did open for Nelley hence the semi tune...I'm like a bird...
what ever happened to her,...she doesn't perform live anymore?
I would love to do a "duet" with Amanda...just sayin.
