    This guitar is amazing, I own one. It has a tremendous presence, and fantastic sustain. I’d put this up against a high end Taylor or Hummingbird. For the price you really aren’t going to get a nicer sounding guitar. I haven’t played through an amp too much with it, because it’s so loud and full sounding on its own, it really doesn’t need amplification for what I use it for. The only adjustment I made on this guitar was sanding down the bridge saddle by maybe 1/8”, which put the action at a perfect height. I’m really pleased with this guitar, and I did buy it from Kraft. I got the whole package with the case and everything. Dealing with Kraft was a great experience and I’m really pleased with the purchase. Would recommend both the LL16 and Kraft as well.

    I have had the Yamaha LL16 are for a few months now, and I have played it next to Martins and Taylors, Tanglewood Masterclass, and even hand built one-off guitars.
    The Yamaha left them all for dead. I kid you not!

      I went into the guitar shop in town and I told the guy to give me some martins,taylors,etc. I played all the high end acoustics guitars then I asked him "give me the best sounding guitar you have in here." He said it's a Yamaha ll16 a.r.e. when I played it it was hands down the best sounding one. Hand crafted solid top,back,and sides. I went straight to the cashier and I can't stop playing it.

    I have an LL16 and before I bought it, I tried it out in the shop against a Martin acoustic in the same price range. The Martin was made from laminated woods, and the Yamaha is built of solid woods. I would never think of putting Martin guitars down in any way but just thought that value and quality wise, the Yamaha is a better investment in this price range. I had the LL16 set up properly and it is really a great guitar to play, and a beautiful tone.

      Totally with you. A good Martin (series 15 and up) is a thing of beauty. In the mid range budget Yamaha L and FG series are superb.

    I've had this guitar for just under a year and I have to say it is one of the best sounding guitars I've ever played. I have played anything from gibson's from the the forty's and fairly new 5000 dollar Taylor's

    I own one of these guitars, and they are unbelievable. I agree that the guitar sounds " thin" on this demo, but it's because it was recorded badly+TH-cam's compression destroys the sound.
    I have owned Martins, Taylors, Lowdens, Epiphones, Avalon's (Chinese and Irish) to name but a few.
    This Yamaha completely blows them all away. It's the only guitar I have ever known where you can put a capo on any fret right up to the top of the neck, and it stays perfectly in tune, and even then the body rings like a bell. The neck has zero-strain playability. My advice is go and try one out.

      Agreed- good rundown of everything and a good actual review- i.e. - not a concert. ;) Thanks for taking them to point out the body details, etc. as some of us are likely buying this guitar sight unseen- just on the reputation of Yamaha and the woods/size/features. Great work.

I just love it and can't put it down, it's so easy to play for a new guitar. Not to mention that my brown sunburst, looks soooo cool!! In my opinion, the best bang for your buck!!

    My LL16 is my third 'L' series dread (previously owned a pre-A.R.E. LL6 and LL16), and I have owned Yamaha acoustics since my first, an FG180 red label, bought new in 1969. I also own a sunburst LJ6. Yamaha simply don't do 'average' and build some beautiful instruments, from the lowly FG8XX right up to the LL86 Custom for which you'll be asked around £10,000. Great review as usual.

    One thing the host did not mention, which is most vital to the tone, is how the braces underneath the back and top are tuned - in other words, what are their final widths and heights, because it is precisely that which forms the harmonic picture of the guitar's sound which inclines us to like the tone, or not, as the case may be.

    This guitar can also take a beating,its built like a tank.
    Also its the perfect camp guitar. I've had it for almost two years know.
    Only thing i don't like is that its made in china.
    If Yamaha ever did one made in Japan i would buy one.

      I once written a commnet on the Martin Road Series Review here on youtube, that my Takamine TAN15C, which is MIJ and got it for 600$ used, is a much better value for money than the guitars around 1500$ which are expensive only because of the brand name. The LL series by Yamaha, Fender CD140 and higher, Seagull S6, Epiphone Masterbilt etc are all under 1000$ and a better buy IMO. If one wants a pro sound and seeks only new guitars, then when on budget, it makes no sense. If you have the money, but the expensive ones, ok, but if you want to stretch the money yet want a fine sound, buy a used guitar. I can honestly say the TAN15C can rival any 2000-3000$ acoustic. Especially my piece, as the woods are just hand picked premium!

    I already own a Martin Dred but recently drifted to Yamahas. Already own a F330 and a FG800. Honestly it's a toss up between the 2 Yamahas and the
    Martin in playability. My son owns an FG830 and I bought his son an F335. Yamaha is winning my family over!!!

  • @andrewguttry6886

    @SocialMonkey. Yamaha have been building musical instruments since 1887 (the three tuning fork logo points to their heritage), and there's nothing remotely clone-like in the design of the 'L' series. which is a Yamaha original. I'm delighted they're 'un-American', frankly, and the 'L' series which goes right up to the LL86 ($15,000) can put many US-built acoustic guitars to shame. Do yourself a favour and play a few.

    What would be the string height measurements of both e strings, at 3rd fret and 12th fret , after the plek treatment? I want one of these guitars, without the famous, unplayable string action, and shoddy fret work that it covers up. So far, nobody has been able to give those measurements, or even an estimate.

  • @daw162
    @daw162 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    5 ply necks aren't any more stable than 3 ply necks. Even a 2 piece neck removes the continuous grain through the center of the neck. I'd imagine that the neck is 5 ply instead of 3 due to a different machine making the neck.
    Look around at all of the most expensive guitars, they're one piece necks. The whole reason for the multi-piece neck isn't stability (it's a nice side effect), it's because it's too expensive to find good mahogany one-piece blanks to make a neck on a guitar in this price range.
    you can combat that by making laminated necks, or you can make a thin neck and build up the heel and scarf the peghead.
    It's a very good guitar for the money, but some of the ad copy stuff gets really old.

    • @12sakar
      @12sakar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      My Lowden F50 has a 5 ply neck. Pretty sure that had nothing to do with cost savings.

    Baking and slow boiling wood - with or without additives - wood is not something proprietary to Yamaha, for it has been done by many for a very very long time - going back to baroque lute, harpsichord, and violin makers, and perhaps much further beyond than that. Getting rid of those oils and resins, in the right way, enhances the ability of the woods to sing all of the partials over the overtone series just that much more clearly, resulting in a much better tone.
