    Every child in the Franco-Belgo area of comic books has read Lucky Luke since early childhood. Standard comic book fare for European youth!

    These books are huge over here (Germany). Early stuff is just OK in my book, but the series got really brilliant when Rene Goscinny joined the show. Tons of historical figures to come, also western actors like Lee van Cleef etc. showing up. And yeah, the art will look significantly different at that point. ;-)

    Lucky Luke is incredible, especially when Goscinny gets on board, contributing with his writing. Read it all already, chewing my dad's old volumes multiple times and hope they finish this line, I look forward to start doing these.

    I love that you've covered this quite obscure comic. I've been a Lucky Luke fan since being a kid - still have some of the old books from the 1970s - and really like these collected versions. It was surprising how different he looked in the early days. Here's hoping they continue the run.

    Lucky Luke is huge in europe, but mostly the Goscinny/Morris. Those are the most classic albums. After Goscinnys death Morris colaborated with alot of other writers and after his death other people has taken over the pen.
    I really recomend the classic era stuff, like Calamity Jane, Ghost Town and Ma Dalton.
    There are also a couple of great alternative Lucky Luke stories like "The man who killed Lucky Luke". (It's made in a more modern and moody style but are still great.)

    The first three volumes of these are awesome due to the extras included about the artist during the exact time frame when he was creating the included albums. That is what made these so special. Then somehow for volume 4 and 5 these extras which made this collection so special were not included. They somehow decided not to translate and include these anymore. Not only that they didn't even bother putting the covers of the included albums inside of it, you only see them on the backside as miniatures. What a shame and a let down. It is clear to me why volume 4 and 5 were released at the same time so people would get them at the same time before realizing about the missing content. Otherwise nobody would bother with volume 5 after seeing the poor content of volume 4. Needless to say I will not bother with volume 6 but from the ratings I see volume 4 and 5 are getting it is clear there probably won't be a volume 6. This collection series started out great and then they botched it.

      @@NearMintCondition That's the big problem we French and Belgian have with our comics. They are published in a short, 50 pages long, hardcover only and expensive format. That's why the only ones that sell well nowadays are Astérix, Lucky Luke, etc. and a lot of people turn to manga and American comics.

    • @thfh890
      @thfh890 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NearMintCondition Comics here are usually a self contained story in fifty pages not like US comics which take several issues to complete a storyline. So a new issue gets a little better treatment and can either be released as a 'cheap' softcover like Trade paperbacks but of better quality. Or as a hardcover which is usually double the price of the softcover. If a strip is really special they might decide to create integrals which are similarl to the versions of luckt luke you have. The addition of background information or dossier is quite common in those kind of books.

    After getting all three volumes I realized this collects only a fraction of what’s been published. It only collects the first nine books while there are 82 in total. My hope is for all of those 82 to be collected in this format at some point. However, I have not seen a Vol. 4 and so being announced and it’s been a year. What are the chances that more comes out. I also realize we’d have to get 27 volumes to collect all which seems to be unrealistic. Not much of a “complete” collection if they don’t.
