  • This is an update on the Predator 9600 gen shed I built last fall. Made some changes to help with noise abatement and better air cooling inside the shed.

Nice work it is a big improvement for the way it was done at first I am in the process of building one myself for my generator that you for sharing yours with us it’s nice to see what I can improve on it before my is finished all the way thanks

    Sorry to burst your bubble.
Adding a muffler is a big 'No-No' because this will effect the exhaust back pressure,
on this specific designed engine. The exhaust on an engine is like an 'air pump'.
The more you restrict 'exhaust air flow', harder the generator engine must work,
    reducing Amp/Wattage output.

SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOO, he could of done cheaper & better to just run open tubing ( flex ) maybe underground to wxit at another location, thus NO change in back pressure

Been watching numerous ideas on sheds for such, seems a fan to SUCK in and duct closer to the engine part would do even better & added to your fan out setup

So the generator itself has a large blower internally that sucks air in and blows it out the side of the frame. So I have one duct taking that air directly outside and the extra air I found around the muffler is being directed to the fan which blows it out the backside of the shed. so the gen fan pulls plenty of air in.

I have a Champion 8750 open frame inverter generator. I have found that the mechanical noise from the generator is louder than the exhaust.

@@ourtexasfamilyvideos62 yeah the closed frame really cuts engine noise down. The preponderance is from the exhaust, hence why I ended up adding that muffler. Amazing difference.

Hello. Enjoyed the video. I have the exact same generator and building shed. Do you have parts list/model number and where the items were purchased? Thank you

I just sketched a design and bought the lumber at Menards. Pretty much everything was from there except for the exhaust fan which I ordered off Amazon. There are tons of those. It’s a 10” shuttered exhaust fan.

Your problem is your exhaust fan. It is too small. I have gone through this process and started with a 12" fan, then upgraded to a 14" fan and finally a 16" AC Infinity fan that pumps 3,000 cfm. My research indicated that ideally you want to limit compartment temp rise to 10-15F and in no case an internal temp above 104F. Matter of fact with my 14" fan inside temperatures wer up to 125 degrees F or higher. The 16" fan got it down to a 10-15 deg rise. In my case on the outside of the compartment I attached a curved sound insulated duct to redirect and attenuate the noise. You can readily find galvanized sheet metal ducts with the same opening area as the wall outlet inside your compartment.
Think too about installing a bimetalic temp switch for say 120 deg (cheap Ebay- normally open) and connect it to the low oil circuit to preventing it from a meltdown if the fan fails. There is a two part video on youtube on how to accomplish this.
Because these generators are seldom used ignoring heat issues can still buy you several years of life but ignoring heat will result in a failure when emergency power is most needed.

Overall it looks like you solved a lot of the airflow problems. In hindsight, it may have been easier/better to have the exhaust fan blowing air INTO the enclosure from the far side of the generator, and then allowing the hot discharge air to blow out of the enclosure, at the same location on the generator that it's exhausting out. Basically have your discharge air vent out near the exhaust discharge.
Also, what model wireless KW meter do you have? I'd like to get one like that.

This is the monitor I use: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001Q1G4WK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hindsight is a bit 20/20, but the idea was with it running, it pulls additional cool air in via the two end vents which will help further cool the gen. The layout of these gens makes it a bit more challenging to get a good airflow setup.

@@Honestandtruth007 unfortunately, I don’t have a dB meter so I couldn’t tell ya. Based on what I’ve heard in other videos, I’d hazard a guess at upper 50s/very low 60s

2:37 Looks like a great idea with that curved duct, to help direct the heat over to the fan?

    • @cheetahb5
      @cheetahb5  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes. So I discovered that the exhaust fan on the gen not only exits from the port on the side, but also from around the muffler area. So the curved duct directs that exhaust to the fan so I didn’t have to try and duct it out the side like I did with the main exhaust.
