    I've have a 2016 27 foot Forest River Sandstorm Toy trailer. My first long trip from SO CA to KY in 2019 to visit my kids was an exhausting experience with each pot hole and big rig that would pass on the left pulling us out of our lane it was a white knuckled exhausting expectance. The next year before we left to KY, I purchased a Pro-Pride system in 2020, the Pro-Pride Hitch has a great heavy duty design and I now have over 20,000 + miles on the Pro-Pride traveling each year from CA to Texas, CA to KY to visit my kids and grandchildren and family, the Pro Pride and its has been a game change in pulling my trailer, I used to get exhausted pulling my trailer for long drive days, this system virtually has no wind sway, the system transfers the tongue weight to my rear axel instead if on the bumper, virtually no puling vacuum on the left when Big rigs come up on your drivers side, it has changed my traveling experience from white knuckle driving to a effortless enjoyable drive.

    Always use a lock pin in the latch on trailer ball hitches .

  • @TubeLVT
    @TubeLVT ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I ensure that the ball is secured in the coupler by temporarily raising the tongue with the jack enough to lift the hitch slightly higher than its unladen position.

    I’m super happy I have experience in both TT and 5th wheel. I actually understand what he’s saying.

    One test you can do on a ball hitch similar to pull test on 5th wheel. After you drop onto ball and engage lock lift the hitch again with the jack (easier with electric jack). See if hitch pops off ball. You can also look underneath to see if capture plate is all the way around ball. Do not use your fingers, if it engages while fingers are there not good. Lifting the hitch with jack will also make it easier to hook up chains on distribution bars.

    My spouse was being helpful and hooked up my trailer. He greased the sway bars on my e2 without telling me. I def felt it swaying. 😊p

    Set your brake level, drive at 25mph and smash the trailer brake control you want to be able to stop your rig at that setting.

  • @middleclassretiree

    Yes there is such a thing as a safety “tug” when towing a travel trailer but it’s intended to ensure that your trailer brakes are functioning and all it takes is a application of the trailer brakes by hand and nothing else

    Would you cover how to adjust your trailer break controller to the right brake setting…..

    At 7:00, he's talking about something that's not bad, it just gets to him. But I can't understand what he said (four flat?) and I can't imagine how it would be used as he described it.

    #7. Have a tow vehicle that can handle the trailer.
    Not just the tow weight capacity but the ability to stop the trailer. Control the trailer in situations that could arise like WIND. Or Defensive driving. Stopping WHEN you lose the trailer brakes. (That is going to happen. It's not an "if" situation at all. It's a "when" you lose the trailer brakes situation)
    So many people out there pulling a big 5th wheel with the 1/2 ton or more with the 3/4 ton trucks that "SAY" they can pull it but it's MORE THAN PULLING.... it's everything else.
    Dually police here.... don't question my autoratie!!!!!! lol

    One thing I always do when pulling a trailer is pull out the break away cable and do a tug test. This ensures that the brakes work if it becomes unhooked. I also use my fingers to feel the ball to make sure it's latched. I would rather have to clean my hands than my trailer coming loose.

    😂😂😂 I thought this was a tow vid… it looks like you thought it was an exercise video. Wave arms up & down at your side & the chop with your left arm. Now, all together now… Cue the music And, 5… 6… 7… 8… 🕺🏻

    Maybe the driver should reach under the hitch and feel the lock to the ball? DA

    Laser mentioned what sounded like "4 Plat". I did not really understand what he said. Can someone provide clarification as to what he was referring to? I have a bit of towing experience but have not heard that term (or whatever sounded similar). Thanks!
    P.S. I guess I must be doing something right because I do adhere to all of the pointers that he mentioned.

    • @andrewparry8559
      @andrewparry8559 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think he said 4 flat. I think he was taking about people having a 4 flat trailer wiring connection dangling under their car. I could be wrong.

      @@andrewparry8559 Thanks for the reply! What you say makes sense. I guess he was referring to a 4 pin connector?

    Only thing I would say about this is the crossing the chains is just a personal preference. I have literally seen several trailers come unhooked and they still hit the ground with the chains crossed.

    • @co-lo-ra-do5607
      @co-lo-ra-do5607 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed - there are as many people who say to cross them as say not to.

    • @leeshearer9725
      @leeshearer9725 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup. Chain length with a w/d system will not cradle the hitch.

    • @barrynash1126
      @barrynash1126 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agree. My last two TTs had a single point of connection for the chains to the tongue. With this setup, there's no difference between crossed and uncrossed chains (unless you make the case that the stress on the attachment point is different).

    The trailer wheels are not far enough back, on Rv trailers, their all dangerous,

    •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thats likely for handling purposes, but yes putting the axles further back is more stable. But such a trailer does not follow the road in the same way, it will take up more side-ways space.

    • @michaelguerin4618
      @michaelguerin4618 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Side ways space, I am not sure what you mean by that,
