    Great video,but man that is doing it the hard way! I changed the gearbox in my daughter's Renault Megane a few months ago, & I found it was easier and quicker to pull out engine & gearbox together. No need to pull out sub frame ,steering rack,,ect!!! Removal ,exchanged box & re installed in 8 hrs ,and I am not a mechanic!!

      Trouble is, this is a Scenic model, on a Megane you can lift the package out from above, on the Scenic they moved the windscreen forward so this is not possible...

    Loved this video but what a huge amount of work to get this thing out. Have you ever had to take out the entire engine on this Renault?

    Wouldn't it be easier to just lift the car away from the subframe/engine/gearbox/driveshafts/shocks/-basically-the-whole-package? Clearly you have the capacity to lift the car up, using the engine hoist. I have one of those, exactly the same model, and it can lift surprisingly high. =)

      I've struggled to find a replacement best is £600 rebuild with a 12 month unlimited mileage guarantee.

    • @DavidB-rx3km
      @DavidB-rx3km 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@simongb7897 Yes. I did it last year - it would have been ok if I had had a garage to do it at the time. There are still stains in the road because I knocked the driveshaft out slightly, and 3 litres of gearbox fluid drained out. You have to take the subframe and steering rack out - try to take as little as possible as it's difficult to get back together again - don't take the pipes out of the steering rack, the gearbox has a few different length bolts, just number them or something. I was left with a few things after, and I didn't know where they went. It rain perfectly after, but I sold it straight away. GOOD LUCK!

    What's the big deal to design an engine bay big enough so you don't need to remove so many things that are on the way. Gearbox should be attached only to the engine, drive shafts and to the mounts, and those are the only things that you need to remove, and maybe some electrical connectors. Stupid Engineers.

    Now I got the definition of the word "mechanic"! Mechanics are "nuts" :)......You want to fix one single part of the car; you will need to dismantle the whole car. I guess this guy was supposed to stub all the car tires to get flat even..Mix the car relays, fuse and remove the battery liquid.."HELL NO"
