Peeta painted Rue as an act of defaillance. He wanted to show the gamemakers what they did. He also wanted to do something drastic so the gamemakers would take it out on him and not on Katniss. In the book, Katniss doesn't see the painting because they tried to remove it before she came. But she knows Peeta must have done something bad because the gamemakers are mad. And as her goal is for Peeta to live and not her, she also tries to do something drastic to take the target off him. They both received 12 out of 12 in their evaluation.
Finally someone has had their coffee,., Please school them. I don't get how people get confused with this... the same how they don't understand Peeta's character. Also Haymitch is not just a drunk for nothing, he's suffering from PTSD too.
Thanks for that extra bit of info. That makes so much sense now. That's really well fleshed out in the books because as far as we see in the movie, she just enters as he leaves after having painted that. She's raging whilst Plutarch and the rest aren't all that bothered (until she does that Seneca Crane bit). We know how Peeta feels about her so it made no sense.
@@chelliebean5773 not just PTSD from his quarter quell games, but ALSO coaching 2 tributes for 24 years just to watch them die every time. (until Katniss and Peeta)
we can only imagine the relief of all the parents in Panem when they heard the terms of the jubilee games and realized that their children were safe this year! sneaky but cunning, president snow!
Yes, Katniss is pissed at Haymitch at the end. She trusted him with Peeta's life and he betrayed her. In the book she actually attacks his eyes with her fingernails, screaming horrible things to him. "To punish Haymitch, who, of all the people in this rotting world, has turned Peeta and me into pieces in his Games. I trusted him. I put what was precious in Haymitch's hands. And he has betrayed me."
@@RamblersInc personally, i think he was wrong to completely leave them in the dark. Sure Katniss can't act and they were closely watched by the Capitole. But he could at least have warned them to never get separated. Also, i think in the movie it's not really believable how they get separated. No way Katniss would agree on this that easily when her whole goal is to make sure he survives. In the book, the argument is that they don't have a lot of time before the lighting strikes and the girls are the fastest and Peeta is too slow because of his prosthetic leg. They don't have time to argue and they're afraid the others will turn on them if they do.
🤔Now that you mention it....why wasn't there any sort of warning? Unless they all thought that telling either of them would lead to Snow finding out. She's much smarter than that.
@@RamblersInc Snow was watching them very closely. And it's emphasized multiple times in the books that Katniss can't lie or act. It's like she said in this movie "I'm an open book". Peeta is the good liar of the duo but I'm pretty sure they thought he would tell her if he knew anything. If Katniss knew anything, she wouldn't have acted as her usual self in the arena and the all plan would have failed. I agree with Haymitch that they couldn't tell Katniss. But he still could have given Peeta a hint.
"It's true his family doesn't need him. They will mourn him, as will a handful of friends. But they will get on. Even Haymitch, with the help of a lot of white liquor, will get on. I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me. [...] So before he can talk, I stop his lips with a kiss. I feel that thing again. The thing I only felt once before. In the cave last year [...] The sensation inside me grows warmer and spreads out from my chest, down through my body, out along my arms and legs, to the tips of my being. Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect, of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this is an entirely new kind."
@@RamblersInc yes, she talks multiple times of this warmth feeling when she hugs or kisses Peeta. She doesn't feel that with Gale. I think it's beautiful because it also shows how young and inexperienced Katniss is. Peeta is the first boy she ever kissed. She never had time to think about love before. She never felt sexual desire before so she doesn't understand it and refers to it as something she knows too well, hunger.
The change of Effie's character in this one is really good. She's like Haymitch in a way. She had to mentor two kids every year just to watch them die. She couldn't get attached to them. But when they both managed to survive the first Games, she was so happy and started to really love them. Just for them to get sent back in only a year after. Effie knows this is completely unfair. The deal for a winner was to be safe from the reaping for life. You can hear her sigh of relief when she picks Haymitch's name. She's probably thinking "at least one of my kid is safe". Then the total look of horror on her face when Peeta volunteers. It's heartbreaking how she then says their name and keeps her hand on Peeta's shoulder. They mean a lot to her at that point.
I thought this was her first mentoring position which was part of why she was sent to 12. It's the bottom of the barrel in the eyes of the capitol. It's been awhile since I read the books though
@@ptitepeluche05 in the movie, yes, but I believe in the books it is her first year. They're also technically not mocking her specifically, it's the capital accent they're mocking
@@calebsmommy812 no, this is from the book : "Suddenly he falls into a Capitol accent as he mimics Effie Trinket, the maniacally upbeat woman who arrives once a year to read out the names at the reaping."
The plan was always to short circuit the arena. Beetie was down because he attempted to short it out at the ground level force field. Sending Katniss and Johanna to the beach was a ruse so Johanna could cut out Katniss’ tracker, Finnick could cut out Peeta’s, and Beetie could short out the game. The books really help. The audio books have a good narrator and you can listen while going about mundane tasks through the day. I always thought Catching Fire would be broken up into two movie, versus Mockingjay. Thanks for a great watch.
29:28 "lightning doesn't strike the same place twice" Yes, it does. That's why people install lightning rods to divert lightning away from important tall structures in perpetuity. Lightning strikes tall things and metal things, no matter how many times those things have been struck before.
Cool to note the Roman motifs used (Panem, the arena, Plutarch, the parade and the capitol architecture). Which ties with "panem et circenses" (bread and circus), a way the Roman rulers used to placate the populace. Free food and entertainment to keep them complacent. It's used brillantly in the Hunger Games. Food and entertainment for the capitol but used as a mean of control for the districts. Katniss is defined by hunger, it's her primary concern, it's always on her mind. So Peeta (like pita bread) the baker's son who saved Katniss from starvation by throwing her a loaf of bread. (Twice, in the books, next time she sees him, uncomfortable, she looks away and sees a dandelion growing, triggering her memories of looking for food in the forest with her father. That's when she starts hunting for food.) So Katniss is hunger and Peeta is food. Also, this is the best reaction I've seen. And funny! Thank you.
The original plan was for Beetee to throw the spear with the copper wire at the wall and hoping to shut down the system, but it was too early and close to the force field that it ended up electrocuting him. That’s how Katniss got the idea, she saw what Beetee was trying to do and went for it. Also good catch with Johana pretending to kill Katniss most people don’t pick that up. This is one of my favorite book and movie ever. If you get a chance to read the books, you definitely should it’s amazing writing.
Little facts from the books; 1. People in the capital and outside district 12 were told/made to believe that Gale was Katniss’ cousin, which were easily believed by everyone (including Effie and the stylists) since they do have similar features (dark brown hair, eye colour etc.) and were really close/spent a lot of time together. Hence why Peeta had put a picture of Gale in the gold pendant alongside her mother and sister 🙌🏼 2. During the dance with Plutarch at the party he briefly shows Katniss a golden pocket watch with a Mockingjay engraved on/in it The morphling lady did in fact jump out of her hiding spot in front of Peeta to save him from the monkey/ape
@@RamblersInc yes she was. The victors tributes from the districts had varying degrees of knowledge about it : 3 - Wiress and Beetee 4 - Finnick and Mags 6 - Male and Female Morphiling 7 - Johanna and Blight 8 - Cecilia and Woof (we don't see them in the movie. Cecilia was a mother of three small kids, they all cling to her when she's repead :-( ) 11 - Chaff (Haymitch's friend) and Seeder (she reassures Katniss at one point that Rue's and Thresh's families were not punished after the Victory tour)
The morphling did came out and jumped in front of Peeta, so two people Sacrifice them self for him Mags and the morphling and if you notice Finnick in the cornucopian fight he stands in front of him and take a injury to the leg and gave him CPR when he could just let him die. One of the things they don't say in the movies Peeta lost his leg, so that why he struggles more, and one of the reason people are helping him, also people see him as to good to be in the games but they main reason is for Katniss because they know she went in with the mind to save Peeta, so if he dies she will be grieving so bad she will not have a good head to be in the games and she will ditch everyone and go on her own since she working with other to keep Peeta save and they need her close to get her out. Yes Katniss lost it when Peeta died because she does love him at the time she doesn't know what kind of love it is and you can see that Finnick and Snow realize she does love him, when they thought she was using him to stay alive.
As other commenters have already mentioned, the plan was always to short circuit the arena, but they had the beach electrocution plan as a cover up for the cameras. But an an interesting tidbit I just want to add, that I wish the movies kept in bc it was pretty cool, was how they had the whole breakout plan going in the books. Basically, Haymitch was sending them bread rolls every day to signal which day and what time the escape would occur, and thus, when to execute Beetee's plan. So for example, the first delivery was bread rolls from District 4 (each districts make different kind of bread, so that's why they can tell where it's from), signaling that the breakout would happen on the fourth day. But then every subsequent delivery was 24 rolls from District 3, signaling that it would happen at midnight on the third day. I reckon this is probably why Plutarch made sure to design the arena like a clock, though it does bank on them figuring out how to tell the time haha. I think in the books, he only started sending bread rolls after they figured out the clock. Regardless though, a lot of factors had to fall in line for the plan to work out esp bc Katniss is kind of unpredictable as well lol (plus it was super risky with a high chance of being caught), but the fact that so many tributes was willing to put their faith in it shows how desperate they were to break out of this messed up system. And it shows how much hope Katniss was starting to bring as well. Anyway, this was a fun watch and it was cool to see the details you guys picked up on, can't wait for your reactions to Mockingjay 1 and 2. And then hopefully The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes!! (which is Snow's back story if you didn't know, I'd love to know what you guys think of it.)
🤯 This is such a major bit of information left out of the movie. It would have actually felt like a breakout in the books whilst it came out of nowhere in the movie.
@@RamblersInc Hahah well to be fair, in the books she just notices how Finnick keeps counting bread rolls since her and Peeta were still left in the dark 😂But she thought they were counting it to divide up the food evenly (even commenting after the final delivery that it doesn't divide properly, and she thinks because in the next meal there would only be 1 person left standing so only 1 bread roll is needed). Also I think the tributes who were involved all had varying degrees of knowledge so not everyone knew every thing but yeah. But when it all comes together, you're like ohhh lol
9:40 Instant recall of the myth of Roman parties and the "vomitorium", where nobles would go to purge their bellies and go back to feast some more. The actual meaning of "vomitorium" is a passageway that allows people to exit a building in large numbers.
if you think making past victors competing again is fucked up, for the first Quell, the districts had to hold elections to vote which tributes to send to the Games. For the second, they had to pay up twice the amount of tributes, and those were the Games Haymitch won. A friend of Katniss's mother went that year, too. My theory is the Quell idea they replaced with Katniss's is that the parents of the reaped tributes would fight in the Games.
A little thing from the book that the film didn't really explain is that some of the other victors were teasing Katniss for her modesty by doing little things to challenge it. So Joanna undressing in the elevator and Chaff kissing Katniss were part of that. Always cracks me up a bit.
"The plan was always to save you, Katniss. You are the Mockingjay. This is the Revolution." These movies (and books) have some of the most Substantial subject and story matter of any "Young Adult" stories ever. [Unless you count Grimm's Fairy Tales from centuries ago.] In my opinion, the Hunger Games stories are instant classics. I enjoyed the discussion at the end, and how you were both surprised repeatedly by just how brutal this story gets. Looking forward to the next one. (The Dictator's Equation: Power = Brutality + Controlling the Message.)
Katniss never wanted a love relationship because of the world she lives in. She cares about Gale and Peeta. Peeta was the first boy to kiss. Katniss said in the first movie, "I'm not having kids". Gale said in this movie when he kissed Katniss, " I had to do that once". Meaning he never kissed her before. Don't forget she a young person being tormented by Snow. She knows this so she's ready to die.
Yes, Spiel's are real things. They're used to tap trees for things like tapping maple trees for maple syrup. Effie is one of my favorites in the movies, because she's real, imperfect but "genuine" in her own imperfect way. Sometimes your allies aren't perfect but they shouldn't just be tossed aside because of that. Plutarch is great one of the all time greats.
Amanda Plummer (Wiress) has had an amazing film and stage career. Tony winner (“Agnes of God”) and daughter of Christopher Plummer, she’s been in many great films, going all the way back to “The World According to Garp” in the early 80’s.
29:28 Thats actually just an old thing people used to say. Its not true at all. Lightning actually loves to strike the same place, thats how Lightning rods work.
Proper comment for my actual thoughts, after my hype comment pre-watch 😅😅 So the quarter quell is an amazing concept IMO - every 25 years they brought out an absolutely effed up way to reap victors for the Hunger Games. In the first quarter quell, the victors were voted for by their own community to show that the rebels chose the horror of war. In the second quarter quell the reaping took twice the usual number of tributes (2 boys and 2 girls) to show that twice as many rebels died as capitol forces. This one (the 50th games and second quarter quell) was the one that Haymitch won. There is an absolutely fantastic fan video on TH-cam of this quarter quell which I will find and edit the link in for. Second Quarter Quell th-cam.com/video/7mUjssn86h4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fC6Ua7jdKxEDWN7a In the books, the victors are meant to discover their “talents” - ways to show off once a year when they’re paraded around the capitol to kind of show like, “See? We’ve met their needs and now they can thrive and create.” Peeta becomes a painter, but all of his paintings are scenes of the hunger games that he and Katniss went through. The mutts with Glimmer’s fur and eyes… the stream where Katniss found him… etc. “Mutts” are the capitol’s word for their genetic “muttations” (sic) - creatures they have created or genetically altered. The hounds at the finale of the first games were mutts, as well as the baboons and jabberjays. Mockingjays are considered an affront to the capitol because they are a natural cross between a regular mockingbird and a jabberjay mutt, never intended to be created.
No wonder Haymitch is never sober. Poor guy has been through hell. That fan made video was brilliant....and brutal. The books must have really fleshed out the different mutts.
Mutts is the name they gave the capitols genetically engineered crap like jabber jays the dogs in the first one, the tracker jackers. Mocking jays are not mutts tho because they are the combination of Mocking Birds and jabber jays mating (if i remember correctly)
In the first film, here is something they did not explain from the book. (And it’s well that they didn’t because it’s too disturbing, especially for young kids.) Everything that the capital invents or alters are called “Mutts.” The tracker jackers for instance are genetically mutated wasps that the capital made, so they would be considered a mutt. The big dogs at the end of the film are mutts. The capital took the dead bodies of the tributes and mutated them into the dogs. So, the blonde dog had a dog tag with the number “1” on it. The red dog had a dog tag with the number “5” on it, which was fox face. The two Black dogs wore a tag that said “11” on them (Rue and Thresh.) The dogs still had the memories of the living human, but their personalities had also been altered to be angry and kill live humans. It was kind of a mental torture for Katniss and Peeta because they had to kill the other tributes twice. They could also tell by the dog’s faces who was who, not just the dog tags. Knowing that the dead humans have been mutated into a form of a dog was extremely mentally disturbing.
In this book, Katniss had to dance with Plutarch Heavensbee like what you saw in the film. What they didn’t show was that Plutarch secretly showed Katniss a pocket watch that he had made especially for him. When you rub your thumb across the crystal, a picture of the mockingjay symbol appears and then disappears…. And it was made of gold. When Katniss saw it, she didn’t understand. Why would he have a watch made with the mockingjay on it? She needed to hear his words he was saying as they danced and put two and two together with the watch. He was trying to tell her he was on her side and was he was part of the rebellion. But Katniss’ single weakness is she is only focused on her task of what she wants to have happen. In this case, it was to save Peeta and she to die. Everything else went over her head, which is what Hamich and everyone else in on the plot knew it would, she’s so single minded. YES!!! A Spiel is real. In real life, some trees are filled with fresh water. It is used as a spout to get the fresh water. Plutarch made sure the trees were in place and that Hamich would send the spiel.
Now you understand why some of us were frustrated when you didn't move on to this next part of Katniss' story in a short period of time. 😃 Details you asked about - The party and throwing up is based on a reported old Roman practice “Given banquets were a status symbol and lasted for hours deep into the night, vomiting was a common practice needed to make room in the stomach for more food. The ancient Romans were hedonists, pursuing life’s pleasures,” said Jori, who is also an author of several books on Rome’s culinary culture." CNN Tapping trees for water does exist *Sap from sugar maple trees has the highest sugar percentage; other maples and different tree species only have about half as much sugar. Sycamore trees (Platanus occidentalis), birches (the genus Betula), and hickories (the genus Carya) can also be tapped for drinking water that can be boiled for syrup." Hamich drinks because for 24 years (following the games he won) he has mentored 2 kids every year who died in the games. 3 books (the last book was made into 2 movies that was an industry fad at the time in Harry Potter, Twilight etc), one story. That and the YA love triangle were movie executive required. Remember the purpose of the books was to teach 12-18 year olds about politics and war. Published by Scholastic Books. Finnick is a great character and very easy on the eyes. I didn't recognize him at all in the Sherlock Holmes movie initially. No idea he was English his American accent (just like Liam's) is perfect.
And now I know how syrup is made 👍. You'd need to plant a hell of a lot of trees though? I didn't even think of that. I knew he's have PTSD from being in the games himself but I didn't even comprehend that he'd have to train 2 kids every year for the last 2 decades and watch them not return. That's really messed up and now a little surprised how he isn't completely broken. We should probably have watched them back to back.....but....we're idiots😂. Next one in a few weeks 🤦♂️.
Finnick was, hands down, my favorite character in the books and quickly became my favorite character in the movies, too (outside of maybe Haymitch; by the way, I would 100% take a prequel movie covering Haymitch's Quarter Quell victory).
Would be good to see how Finnick worked his way into being important in the capitol by trading in secrets. At least the rise before it all went to hell.
@@RamblersInc just a heads up, if you want to learn more about Finnick's story, pay close attention in next movie when he's talking. Most people completely miss this part because several things are happening at the same time. But you do get to learn Finnick's story if you listen.
It’s wild how the whole series is a commentary on how the rock are treated and the poor, and how humans like watching suffering as entertainment, the whole thing is sick but a very clever commentary on society.
Why does it matter if people in the districts believe in the love story between Katniss & Peter? Because if people don't believe it they have to wonder why they are saying they're in love if it's not true, the answer is to game the system, defy the state. And since both of them are alive still, it must be working, and if Katniss & peter can defy the state and get away with it, those people who know its all an act are going to be thinking that perhaps they can defy the state as well...
A big reason is it defines what Katniss’ motivation was to pull out the berries. Either she was a girl who defied the capitol and called their bluff, or a girl hopelessly in love who didn’t want to live without Peeta.
I don't think she acts in love with him outside of the games because she's always so freaked out about the life they live in the districts she's never really felt that way about anyone, she doesn't have time to feel any of it. Like she said in the first one. I'm never having kids. Gale and her never really dated. They have always been close and the feelings I am sure exist....but officially shes never been in a relationship with anyone. She cares alot about Peeta and Gale, she just doesn't let herself love them
That's a good point. So sad that she's had to do that to live a certain way in her district. The way she completely freaked out when we almost lost Peeta confirmed how she really felt about him.

Messed up that they based it off a real life speech like that....but fitting. I didn't even think of that. The kids from 1-2 that don't go to the games eventually become Peacekeepers. Makes sense. They're brainwashed just the right amount. Thanks for the breakup of the districts and building a picture of how it works (and the parallels with real life). It's brilliantly thought of, just as it's messed up as much. The torture never stops even after they won. The sexual favour bit made me fell a bit sick. Treated like objects basically. That's really well fleshed out in the books because as far as we see in the movie, she just enters as he leaves after having painted that. She's raging whilst Plutarch and the rest aren't all that bothered (until she does that Seneca Crane bit). We know how Peeta feels about her so it made no sense.

we can only imagine the relief of all the parents in Panem when they heard the terms of the jubilee games and realized that their children were safe this year! sneaky but cunning, president snow!
I agree. Perfect word to describe it. Cunning.
I feel for both of them here. He promised her but also what's Haymitch supposed to do?
Oh yeh, I remember that bit. Ugh, so it's a lose-lose situation.
"It's true his family doesn't need him. They will mourn him, as will a handful of friends. But they will get on. Even Haymitch, with the help of a lot of white liquor, will get on. I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me.

Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect, of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this is an entirely new kind."
That's ...beautiful. That's how it felt for her in the book?
@@RamblersInc yes, she talks multiple times of this warmth feeling when she hugs or kisses Peeta. She doesn't feel that with Gale. I think it's beautiful because it also shows how young and inexperienced Katniss is. Peeta is the first boy she ever kissed. She never had time to think about love before. She never felt sexual desire before so she doesn't understand it and refers to it as something she knows too well, hunger.
@@ptitepeluche05in a way what she feels for Peeta is hunger, just not the regular type😅

We got to see the real Effie here. I liked that they put that in.
I thought this was her first mentoring position which was part of why she was sent to 12. It's the bottom of the barrel in the eyes of the capitol. It's been awhile since I read the books though
@@calebsmommy812 no it's not her first year. Katniss and Gale know her before the reaping and make fun of her accent ;-)

Daaammmn. I didn't even think of it like that. It was ALWAYS the plan.
Lucky that Katniss figured it out.
29:28 "lightning doesn't strike the same place twice"
Yes, it does. That's why people install lightning rods to divert lightning away from important tall structures in perpetuity. Lightning strikes tall things and metal things, no matter how many times those things have been struck before.
Oh yeh........oops 🤦♂️
And funny! Thank you.
Great catch. I didn't know the words Panem and Plutarch stem from that era.
I like the metaphor between Katniss/Peeta being Hunger/Food.
I'm so glad she realised it.
Little facts from the books;
1. People in the capital and outside district 12 were told/made to believe that Gale was Katniss’ cousin, which were easily believed by everyone (including Effie and the stylists) since they do have similar features (dark brown hair, eye colour etc.) and were really close/spent a lot of time together. Hence why Peeta had put a picture of Gale in the gold pendant alongside her mother and sister 🙌🏼
2. During the dance with Plutarch at the party he briefly shows Katniss a golden pocket watch with a Mockingjay engraved on/in it
The morphling lady did in fact jump out of her hiding spot in front of Peeta to save him from the monkey/ape
They seem tiny but such big details in figuring out what side each character is on.
So was the Morphling lady a part of the breakout plan?
@@RamblersInc yes she was. The victors tributes from the districts had varying degrees of knowledge about it :
3 - Wiress and Beetee
4 - Finnick and Mags
6 - Male and Female Morphiling
7 - Johanna and Blight
8 - Cecilia and Woof (we don't see them in the movie. Cecilia was a mother of three small kids, they all cling to her when she's repead :-( )
11 - Chaff (Haymitch's friend) and Seeder (she reassures Katniss at one point that Rue's and Thresh's families were not punished after the Victory tour)
Yes, unfortunately for Peeta, she did convince Snow at that moment and now he has an easy way to break her :'(
Loved that tiny bit where just from his facial expression, you can see Finnick realising that Katniss loves Peeta.
She finally convinced Snow she was in love with him and then Snow went and ruined it 😡
“…This is the revolution and you are the mockingjay.” 🥶 cold as ice delivery by Plutarch

This is such a major bit of information left out of the movie.
Yeh. Sounds well fleshed out. I need to get to the books at some point.
9:40 Instant recall of the myth of Roman parties and the "vomitorium", where nobles would go to purge their bellies and go back to feast some more. The actual meaning of "vomitorium" is a passageway that allows people to exit a building in large numbers.
Yep. Messed up.
I hope in the Patreon reaction they notes the "Will you stay with me?" - "Always." moment. Definitely one of my favorite moments from this movie.
That was a beautiful line. He loves her so much.
She loves him too❤
if you think making past victors competing again is fucked up, for the first Quell, the districts had to hold elections to vote which tributes to send to the Games. For the second, they had to pay up twice the amount of tributes, and those were the Games Haymitch won. A friend of Katniss's mother went that year, too. My theory is the Quell idea they replaced with Katniss's is that the parents of the reaped tributes would fight in the Games.
Yeh, that's pretty messed up.
A little thing from the book that the film didn't really explain is that some of the other victors were teasing Katniss for her modesty by doing little things to challenge it. So Joanna undressing in the elevator and Chaff kissing Katniss were part of that. Always cracks me up a bit.
Oooooohh. That makes so much sense now 😂 Thanks for this.
And then she got angry at Peeta for laughing along and it was really cute haha
"The plan was always to save you, Katniss. You are the Mockingjay. This is the Revolution." These movies (and books) have some of the most Substantial subject and story matter of any "Young Adult" stories ever. [Unless you count Grimm's Fairy Tales from centuries ago.] In my opinion, the Hunger Games stories are instant classics.
I enjoyed the discussion at the end, and how you were both surprised repeatedly by just how brutal this story gets. Looking forward to the next one. (The Dictator's Equation: Power = Brutality + Controlling the Message.)
Let's hope it gets less brutal for her. She's going to need some serious therapy.
Ooooh good point. She's keeping her distance to save her and others more pain.

So the quarter quell is an amazing concept IMO - every 25 years they brought out an absolutely effed up way to reap victors for the Hunger Games.
Second Quarter Quell th-cam.com/video/7mUjssn86h4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fC6Ua7jdKxEDWN7a
In the books, the victors are meant to discover their “talents” - ways to show off once a year when they’re paraded around the capitol to kind of show like, “See?
I can’t wait for y’all to watch Mockingjay part 1 & 2!😊
Mutts is the name they gave the capitols genetically engineered crap like jabber jays the dogs in the first one, the tracker jackers. Mocking jays are not mutts tho because they are the combination of Mocking Birds and jabber jays mating (if i remember correctly)
"Seen as inciting a riot". kind of like the UK's social media policy , arresting people for posting opinions the government doesn't sanction.
"The dogs still had the memories of the living human" - That's so tragic.
Oh that's a key detail to leave out of the movie. Probably helped in providing the twist in the end though.

The party and throwing up is based on a reported old Roman practice
“Given banquets were a status symbol and lasted for hours deep into the night, vomiting was a common practice needed to make room in the stomach for more food. The ancient Romans were hedonists, pursuing life’s pleasures,” said Jori, who is also an author of several books on Rome’s culinary culture." CNN
Tapping trees for water does exist
*Sap from sugar maple trees has the highest sugar percentage; other maples and different tree species only have about half as much sugar. Sycamore trees (Platanus occidentalis), birches (the genus Betula), and hickories (the genus Carya) can also be tapped for drinking water that can be boiled for syrup."
Hamich drinks because for 24 years (following the games he won) he has mentored 2 kids every year who died in the games.

Finnick was, hands down, my favorite character in the books and quickly became my favorite character in the movies, too (outside of maybe Haymitch; by the way, I would 100% take a prequel movie covering Haymitch's Quarter Quell victory).

It’s wild how the whole series is a commentary on how the rock are treated and the poor, and how humans like watching suffering as entertainment, the whole thing is sick but a very clever commentary on society.
Very true. There are parallels on us...I guess since the Roman era.
@davidfairweather3301 Exactly 👍 Ps thanks for putting Peeta's name in text, Can never remember the way it's spelled lol..
Good point.

Which it is technically an established religion, Many people see them as low key cult vibes , They are usually overwhelmingly Caucasian Affluent And many of religions rules And myths especially the unspoken rules are looked at as being out of touch and bizarre, Much like the capital citizens were.
Love the video will definitely subscribe, Last fun fact for this too long comment , 1 and 2 and 4, Even though it was necessary for their survival they would have had to watch these children potentially brutally murder other children. When they come back after their The games they are forced to live in the weird creepy gated community fancy suburban development known as victor's village which since most districts didn't have that many winners Outside of the Richest districts That meant that these villages usually only had 2 or 3 people living in the would That meant that these villages usually only had 2 or 3 people living in the entire development of That meant that these villages usually only had 2 or 3 people living in the entire development of That meant that these villages usually only had 2 or 3 people living in the entire development of mansions. All of the money they received the game All of the money they receive the game just alien from the community further Add their issues with like PTSD or Add their issues with like PTSD or substance abuse because of the PTSD. Leslie Much like phoenix If the capital likes victor they will find ways to have them be in the capital to be parade around Coma, Brought to Parties like accessories And as Joanna referenced Exploited Especially for sex Again always as a novelty party favor or worse goody bag... Often is a thrill for capital citizens to be able to Hang out or sleep with someone that they viewed as nothing Too far from a vicious dangerous wild animal... Because only a wild animal would kill other human beings especially children like these victors did Never mind the fact that the capital was the 1 that forced them to do it. So by the time they announced that the 75th games would be reaping from existing pools of victors Citizens from the districts weren't looking at this as their hero or a community member being taken away and subjected to hell for a second bloody time when they were supposed to be safe... No they looked at it as a year where their children would be safe. Especially the parents of late teenagers 17 and 18Coma coma Because by the time around the following year they wouldn't need to be worried about the Because by the time around the following year they wouldn't need to be worried about the chosen because they would have aged outchosen. So this whole stunt works perfectly an exciting and new way Well simultaneously granting district citizens and unheard of And very much backhanded mercy that no 1 was going to question, Because if it make your child surviving who on earth would question thatthat?
Sorry for any spelling grammar mistakes and doing speech to text and holding a toddler I know you probably didn't read all of this because it's Absolutely bonkers long , But I love this series You seem to enjoy it And I've always felt that learning these little pc of information makes it even more enjoyable Do I have tried to make sure I didn't reference anything that would be a So I have tried to make sure I didn't reference anything that would be a spoiler for the next 3 movies! Enjoy can't wait for Mockingjay part 1 hopefully TH-cam notifications actually functions.😍
Loved it and we should have the next one up in a few weeks.
You managed to type all that whilst holding a toddler? You might be a superhero lol
You made the effort to type it all, so we made the effort to read it all 🙂
The victors who didn't get Reaped Died by the Capital , so it's kind of like a victors Purge
Either way you look at it...it's messed up.
Not quite. They were... held at the capital... not all of them died at the timing of this movie.. but there are still 2 movies left... right?😮
@@dorothytucker9305 I think in Mocking Jay The other victors were killed I forgot and Ballad of songbirds and Snakes is a prequel of young snow
reaction to mockingjay part 1 and 2 ASAP please!
Just a couple more weeks 🙂
Great! It is very interesting to see your joint detailed reaction to the film Robocop 1987. This is a cool movie 🤖🦾🔥
Do you have any plans to do it?
In the future yes.
Cool! I will really look forward!
