I am a cockney but moved to Elswick in 1984. I married a girl from Kenilworth Road. The photograph with the boy holding the bottle of milk. The skinhead in the leather jacket is my brother-in-law. His name is Thornton McLaughlin and he still lives in Elswick. These photos show Elswick exactly as I remember it when I moved there. I knew poor people in London but I had never come across such poverty and hopelessness. I am glad that I experienced it. My son was born in Newcastle General and he is 38 now. Tish has a real talent and this is just the type of photography I enjoy.
I'm a Geordie not too much younger than Tish. I remember the Newcastle she had the courage to document. Lovely, hard, and brutal at the same time. Go to the West end of Newcastle now. Some changes, but still the same. She clearly had a lovely way with people

Very intense, engaged photography!
Great photography from a photographer with a social conscience

The bleakness of socialism.
@@Anon54387 I think you mean the bleakness of conservatism, for most of that period, Thatcher was in charge.
We have never had socialism in this country clown
I knew her from the Side
