JB. You’re the best synthwave TH-cam creator I know. It’s not a fair fight anymore. I turned a much younger guy onto your channel. You’d thought I helped him uncover one of the facts of life. Guy went and got a notebook and started writing songs down.

I loved the Miley Cyrus cover of Joelene, even though Dolly did the original. So I can partially see where you're coming from. I had a remix of [Jeff Wayne's musical] War of the Worlds, and some of them last 10 minutes from a song lasting 3 or 4 mins, but still having the main "bones" of the original.

There’s a simple reason I listen to JB. Synthwave is best enjoyed driving. This is a fact like breathing. He’s the only channel I know that does it. Is this the best kept secret? Because I played this music for a younger kid and he acted like I helped him discover the secret of life.

Edit: Agree on your point. Similar to the magic of Jazz. There is no cover in Jazz. It's all interpretation and a dialogue between artists
I appreciate the thoughts on remakes being a false competition. I do love a great remake (and this certainly is a great one) but I know I involuntarily pit them against their originals every time. I'm not necessarily trying to determine which is better but I'm trying to figure out if I enjoy the new version as much.
I've searched high and low for a cover of Everybody Wants to Rule the World and haven't found one that I enjoy as much as the original, though there are plenty that are great in their own right.
I both love competition and hate it equally as much. I hate the idea that something has to be deemed superior, but then also competition often pushes things to excel to a point they would not have.
I'm not sure I've heard the original. Maybe it was popular in the US. The start of this version is something else. The problem for me as a collector is that i can't buy this in flac or wav add this to the previous recent releases being the same situation.

I prefer the interpretation of a cover... it's not karaoke. My favorite covers are ones that are vastly different than the original. Like Naked Eyes "Always something there to remind me." For a long time I didn't even know it was an early 60s cover, and it's very different than the orginal..
I'll have to check that one out!
