- A rather rare documentary detailing the the daily schedule, life and work of Sir Thomas Allen in the years 1985/86, originally produced by Tyne Tees Television and probably broadcast on Channel 4 in 1988 as a supplement to the ROH 1988 production of 'Don Giovanni'.
An exceptionally insightful documentary on the life and modest personality of one of Britain's greatest baritones.

Thank you! Love You!
He's my favourite baritone as well =) Glad you enjoyed the videos!
9:25 - great point
I was wondering if you would put this up... Thanks! This is lovely :D
@drtmuir I know. I too prefer baritones over tenors. I agree that Domingo and Pavarotti are great, of course, but none of them inspire the sort of respect that I have for Sir Tom whose dedication and energy is so admirable. So it sort of saddens me that while everyone knows the big names of opera, talented baritones like Allen aren't readily known until you introduce them to more of their work. So that kind of explains why I post up Allen videos from time to time here =)
@drtmuir As for the machine getting broken, I think it's entirely justified seeing that the cause deserves all the commendation that he gets. =P
I bet Allen though would shrug this praise off all very modestly...esp. if he hears when he causes people to gush over him more than the tenor gods Domingo and Pavarotti!
Thank you and
I love you....Thomas..⁸
What is the piece he's singing at the beginning?? During the title scene?
It's Ford's aria "È sogno? O realtà?" from Verdi's Falstaff. Sir Tom has sung Ford a couple of times during his career.
@@cosifantutte90One of many people in Italian opera who ask whether they are dreaming. 😂
@drtmuir I'm getting curious - what did she write about him? ;-)
@drtmuir re 4. Well, she's justified in this case, isn't she ;-)
