  • The Englishvillage cricket match bears little relationship to other forms of the game like Test matches, One day games and twenty twenty bashes. Set in the wonderful English countryside surrounded by old oak trees, whaet fileds, cow pastures and hawthorn hedges. There is nothing like it on earth. The roles of the captains, batters, cowlers, fielders and umpires are explained in a light-hearted way. It is a game played at a leisurely pace interrupted occasionally by brief periods of excitement when a wicket is taken. The batters of each team try to score more runs than the other side while the bowlers try to get them out. Age-old machinery like lawnmowers, tractors, rollers and line- markers are rarely less than fifty years old. The pavilion allows the players to change, rest and take tea while the scorers keep detailed records and the spectators exchnge the local gossip.

I love your attitude and narration. Please continue to be the dear , eccentric Englishman you are. Many years ago I was introduced to the game by the local umpire in Northumberland where I started out in life . I’d sit in the sidelines and was so puzzled by the rules .. to this day I’m still confused !! There was always a great spread on the table in the pavilion, which, because of my young age , I was allowed to share. Great days indeed . Bravo British Cricketers 👍🏼 🏏 Thank you once again for your delightful presence.

Christine, you are a crazy woman! But I really appreciate your enthusiasm for my videos. Have you seen the one getting four eggs out of one? You should try it. Best wishes -The Eccentric Engliahman.

Really enjoy your storytelling! As a cricket fan myself, I've followed the great Somerset teams of the past but never watched a village match - definitely on my list of things to do in England :)

Thanks. You may seen that Somerset won the 20:20 cup this year. The village cricket match is a game like no other. Your kind words are enough to tell me that I am on the right course.
