I'm an Aussie old fart, I love to sing, am married to a Filipina grandma, and have lived most of the last five years in Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao. We have a weekly videoke day at home, where we eat, drink and sing along with a male cousin of hers who is my best friend there. Yes, we all sing in English, Tagalog and Cebuano! The Philippines is full of amazing singers, instrumentalists, songwriters and bands. I feel so lucky to be able to enjoy their talents, especially when the songs are in the various Filipino languages. Everyone in the Philippines can be induced to sing, especially after a few alcoholic beverages. Online karaoke apps like StarMaker and WeSing (both of which I have sung on) are full of Filipino singers. It's a hobby and a passion for Filipinos. I suggest that, even though you probably won't understand the language, listen to Freddie Aguilar, Roel Cortez, and also the group Asin, all of whom are classics singing in mainly Tagalog, and modern singers in Cebuano like Ferdinand Aragon and the group Oh! Caraga. I've enjoyed hearing, loving, and singing their songs. All of them can be found on TH-cam. I have always had earworms, but these days I have earworms in many different languages! Mabuhay, at ingat ka! Mabuhi, ug amping ka pirmi!

We can sing Western songs not just because we are multilinguals but because we understand the context of the songs. That’s why most Filipinos have soul when they sing, it’s because they understand what they are singing.
We Filipinos just really love to sing, its basically a pastime for us. Just now I can hear the construction workers belting out some Tagalog songs next door amids all that drilling noises (My uncle's home is undergoing total renovation right now). Its a way to destress. another thing why most Filipinos can sing is that in olden days we are required to sing our National Anthem at school every monday morning before the class start. on rural areas they sing it also on friday after the class. maybe that monday morning voice training helps to becoming a singer 😆

My mom is a singer years ago! Until now she was still famous here in my home town (Davao City). And in 2017, she travelled to Manila, joined ABS-CBN and then competed in Tawag ng Tanghalan, a Filipino musical segment from the variety show It's Showtime. My mom is a singer years ago! Until now she was still famous here in my home town (Davao City). And in 2017, she travelled to Manila, joined ABS-CBN and then competed in Tawag ng Tanghalan, a Filipino musical segment from the variety show It's Showtime. I can't help but support her together with my family ^^
