    DLH was one of the best amateurs of all time, one of the best pro fighter of all time and yet at 39 is the best promoter in the business with Arum (a bad one). A true legend there is no one fighter since modern boxing history who achieve the half than DLH did.. never forget that .. a true Legend.. A did have a nice wife, the 2 best kids a father can have, a nice family job and I buy us a house 12 months ago.. One of my last dream : Meet DLH for just one minute of my life...

    I had a distinct feeling Oscar would win going in. I figured vargas would be to slow not throwing enough seeing how Oscar fights hes very accurate and precise and consistent.You to match it if you want to win Sorry you lossed 😮😮 Vargas.

    If i am not mistaken, it was summer of 2002. I watched this fight in a bar in toronto. Back in the days was real fighters putting real fights, Vargas had a heart of a lion, eventhough he was mismanaged and was thrown to the lions at an early age, He was the youngest champ in boxing histry. He fought tito,oscar,winkey,ike etc. He put a great show. Much respect to both of these guys.

    Thats the attitude of any (most) fighter(s). Regardless of how he promoted the fight at press conferences and confidence he held in his abilities does not negate the fact his potential was not reached due to rushing a young stud against best in business. Just my opinion bro.

    I love you man that's the BEST comment I've been reading since I'm a TH-cam user for 6 years.. And just one thing if Mosley beat him that's just because of steroids because don't think Mosley was using steroids just once because that's wrong.. And I agree for the draw against Mayweather because DLH was the champ.. and you cannot take the belt from him after this fight : that's another robberie.. And against B-Hop I think DLH was doing well but was not in great shape and that's why he did quit..

    the market for boxing generates this type of capital. overpricing through marketing and multi party involvement. look at hollywood and other sports pro and amateur(NCAA basketball and football). social plights dont come into the equation as the demand for high level performance in these fields of entertainment is a separate operation.

  • @SalvyMic
    @SalvyMic 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ncj25 Couldn't agree more. It was the fight he'd wanted even before he fought Trinidad and he couldn't back his words up. It's not like was some prospect, he'd already earned hard-fought wins over Ike Quartey, Winky Wright, and Raul Marquez, who were all very good fighters.

  • @sinusbradycardia
    @sinusbradycardia 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Vargas' win of over Winky Wright, although a close fight, was his most impressive victory considering that Wright went on to become a top p4p fighter. Vargas was rushed against Tito, but that is what made him as outstanding young fighter. Also Vargas' wins over Ike Quartey and then stopping Ross Thompson in the 4th was impressive. Thompson moved up to Super Middle Weight and went he distance with Jeff Lacy, who was built like a monster.

    The juice never helped Vargas become a better fighter. The man was a tactician. A master of the conventional stance and offensive boxing. Physical ability was always second to his skill. This version of Vargas was all strength and rage. A bull brainlessly running his opponent down or Margarito without the superhuman chin. De La Hoya never finished Vargas' career, steroids did. If he was good for nothing else that night, it was disproving the heinous rumor that DLH had no chin.

  • @jarettp8874
    @jarettp8874 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Damn Vargas was so much stronger than De La Hoya, No wonder De La Hoya said He'd never Fight Him,

  • @DavidByrne85
    @DavidByrne85 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    that says more about his conditioning coach than Mayweather. Oscar's bastardized version of the mayweather style was a semi-distaster, imo. You can't carry your left that low with the pretense of relying on your shoulder for defense and still keep so much weight forward on your front foot like Oscar continued to. Floyd does it sometimes as a ruse to draw leads, but he has the reflexes and familiarity with the style to 'break the rules' like that. Oscar wasn't even properly taught the rules

  • @salvi1979
    @salvi1979 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    it was actually not close, Oscar won a clear decision on points. The thing I respect about Oscar above many of the greats of the last 30 years like Leonard,Lewis,Floyd,Chavez etc is that he never backed down or ducked from any fighter ever win lose or draw you cant say that about many so called greats of the past 30 years.

    1) PEDs do more than just 'give you muscle'.
    2) Muscle MAKES YOU MOVE, there is a difference between athletic muscle and bodybuilding muscle. The right type of muscle doesn't 'make you tight'... far from it.

  • @sinusbradycardia
    @sinusbradycardia 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Vargas was on the down side here, IMO he was a much better boxer than he showed here. Especially against Winky Wright. All that muscle that Vargas put on only tires you out quicker and limited his flexibility. The muscle looks good, but unless you're naturally built it is not a good idea to put muscle on when your a boxer. Vargas was more successful when he was a little more loosely muscled. I have to had RIP Corrie Sanders, you are missed.

  • @ah93704
    @ah93704 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oscar wanted Vargas to waera himself out by hitting nothing but air and shoulders and arms...thats why he adopted those defensive techniques. he still managed to land his hook though

  • @youngunzvt
    @youngunzvt 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason why he used it was implicit in the context of my post. It was not the 'why' that was in question, but the efficacy of the shell when unaccustomed to it's benefits, namely, negating the right hand of your opponent and opening the roll-right counter. Understand that Oscar's best weapon has always been his left hook; made entirely useless when improperly using the shell and squaring your hips with your arms at your side. Stay in school.

  • @kingShadow29
    @kingShadow29 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Vargas was a pretty good boxer if he was not thrown to the lion at an early age, at 22 he was thrown to the deadliest puncher tito and at 24 Oscar out classed him. He was mishandled and rushed to early in his career. Why would a talented kid like Vargas been given steriod? Also I hate Merchant for discrediting Vargas and called him glass jaw.

    Following the result of this fight, Vargas would test positive for "steroids" and be fined $100,000.00 This would signify the literal beginning to the end of his professional boxing career.

  • @DEXTER941
    @DEXTER941 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    De La Hoya got away with wearing a very unusual high protector in this fight that protected him from body shots. Mosley's father Jack made sure this did not occur by alerting the commission before the fight that they would not fight him if he wore this type of belt protector. This type of protector is not good for a guy that likes to throw body punches and Vargas was always a great body puncher.

    Lets make something clear, fighter and boxer isn't the same thing. I am a boxing fan and yes, I have been in the ring. Fighting is something different. I could do 1000 things fighting that I can't do boxing. MMA is more fighting than boxing. However, I prefer boxing. It's more of a sport. MMA you make a mistake and fight is over in 2 seconds. A lot of time the winner isn't the best fighter. Just because a little mistake or a slip.

    The fight would've been over faster had he still been with Alcazar, just as Foreman said. Mayweathers style for oscar allowed him to get hit more and was more a slugger style. Oscar's boxer puncher style from alcazar would've dominated Vargas and Ko'd him sooner I believe. This was the best Vargas though, better than the one that Tito beat. The one that TIto beat was faster, but weaker and alot less educated. This Vargas that Oscar fought was the hungriest, strongest and fiercest Vargas to date.
