      There were though. It was a public event and all the hate letters and sabotaging that was done makes zero sense if it was done by a genuine attendee. It would be much more likely than an anti-furry group infiltrated the organization and broke it down from the inside. If they wore the costumes, it wouldn't be as if you could recognize if they were true furries or not, you wouldn't even be able to tell regardless.

      I kinda think there where, just like that time at my local furfest. A furry hater unleashed a Chlorine gas grenade. Luckly no one got hurt and they arrested the dude who did it. It's also not uncommon for people to attend convention to break stuff because of the same hate, not just in rainfurrest.

    2:14 so most furries don't own a fursuit bc they're crazy expensive because of their extreme difficulty to make, but as far as I've heard it's not too different to working at disneyland in a costume, it's warm, sweaty, uncomfortable and you don't want to just take off the suit bc you'd be breaking the magic, and since often there are kids at events with furries you don't want to traumatize them.
    Edit: also yea it does stink once you're done but at furry conventions there are usually rooms for fursuiters that are cooled and have water for them so they can take a break and not die from a heatstroke

  • @fenrissilverfang8419
    @fenrissilverfang8419 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    As member of the community myself, the simple truth is that just about every group or fandom has some (often very vocal) elements you really wish weren't part of said group/fandom.
    Unfortunately that goes doubly for furries.
    There's a lotta good people that dedicate a lot of their time to charity causes or help others to feel accepted and okay with their identity, but on the flipside leaving the door open and trying to be as inclusive as possible also means you get a buncha immoral and messed up people who use their fame or infamy for nothing but bs.
    Fandom's always had a fight with itself over reputation cause no matter how many good deeds are done here and there, all it takes is one mess to go viral and any progress on trying to show others that it's just a hobby and group that shelters many people who are trying to find themselves, regardless of ethnicity, religion, identity or sexuality is lost.

    5:10 Oh no, it doesn't have to be that at all. I have friends that work at the Toronto convention center and the surrounding hotels. After every major event where the attendees aren't all professionals or doctors or something they have to do the rounds. The rounds consist of looking for all the locks and power outlets filled with crazy glue, replace all the stolen/broken light bulbs, inspect the pool for feces, all manner of destruction for destructions sake.

    From what I’ve heard from furries the fursuits are decently comfortable, quite a few compare it to being sort of like full body pajamas. Of course some designs are far less comfortable than others and all of them tend to be very uncomfortable to wear during hot weather. As for the smell I’ve been told it’s really not much different from most other conventions where you’ll absolutely come across people who could really do with some deodorant. Quick side note for anyone wondering what a fur suit costs, they go for anywhere from about $800-$5000 sometimes even more.

    As someone who was active in the furry community at the time of RainFurrest, people were PISSED. RainFurrest wasn't like DashCon where it was one event. RF had been going since 2007 and was one of the biggest furry conventions. This one bad year killed a 9 year convention. This is in stark contrast with other big furry conventions like AnthroCon and Furry Weekend Atlanta where they local businesses welcome furries with open arms. There absolutely was some sabotage going on there.
    And no, I've never worn a fursuit. I've been told it's like wearing an entire couch while also inside an oven, though.

    Every group has their bad apples, it seems to a par that it could be almost taken in the literal sense here.
    Few Furries own suits, fewer attend those conventions, the later part mostly connected to the same reason other conventions only get a fraction of the potential targeted audience to go to them, while the former matter is a thing mixed between financial viability and or personal preference of just not wanting to have one. I count towards the later part, rather using my funding to go towards a full set of far more glorious medieval armor.
    In the end, this convention has been one of many thorns in our eyes, which is odd to say given few of us think of the fandom as a united collective for a great many reasons.
    My personal assumption to this could very well be yours, of the idea that some of the fandom simply seek to sabotage the others for personal joy, there is no fandom or community I am aware of that lacks such indivduals.
    Or, and that has been my long term assumption, it was active saboteurs that actually went to the con out of a disdain for the fandom, given Furries have far from few enemies even today, even less speaking about back then when the anti furry section of the web was not just a collective of early edgy teenagers and neckbeards that would collapse without their daily anime girl intake.

    You would think the hardest thing about wearing a fursuit is the head, making it more difficult to breathe, but they're actually fairly breathable. From what I understand, the toughest thing is trying to stay cool. If it's a convention happening during a cool part of the year in a colder climate, it's easier to make it work, but if it's anywhere south of Canada and west of Kansas happening any time from between April to September, you're probably suffering.
