Respect to you brother for coming all the way from mother England to serve in the Greek military as I'm sure many guys who have dual nationality would. I wish the UK and Greece shared closer ties and an even closer alliance as they did in the past since they both share similar values.
"I wish the UK and Greece shared closer ties and an even closer alliance as they did in the past since they both share similar values. " My friend, UK ruined Greece. Look at WW2, after the defeat of Italy by the Greeks, the Germans offered peace and Greece to keep northern Epiros, however, no British or commonwealth forces were allowed to be stationed in Greece. Greece first wanted to encounter the Germans if Britain send nine fully equipped divisions to help Greece in order to defeat the Germans. However Britain couldn't even send 1 division, Greece obviously rejected this and wanted to remain neutral, not to provoke a German attack. Nonethless Britain send less then 1 division so they wouldn't lose any Mediterranean bases, 4 days later, Hitler angry and intervened. On the end, hunderds of thousends civilians dead, Britain robbed our whole treachery in their so called "liberation" of Greece in 1944 (spoiler: not to liberate Greece, but not to lose another Mediterranean base to the communists). And then lets not start about the Turkish invasion of 1974, where the British did not intervene and actually gave Greek/Cypriot military positions to the Turks for them to know where to bomb with their artillery and planes. Why? Because Cyprus wanted to join Greece and Holy Britain didn't want to lose their colony. If you are real Greek, go read Greek history, and no British propaganda history.
An excellent interview with a young man who understood exactly why he had done what he did and his pride shone through plus he explained why the Greek Soldiers march that way. Don't let him waste his time joining the British Army get him to join the Royal Marines or the Royal Air Force Regiment
RAF Reg are a horrendous bunch of perimeter pirates. Why would you recommend anyone apart from someone too fat or too thick for the infantry to join them?
lmao the RAF Regiment have higher fitness standards and have a much lower percentage of overweight soliders than the army. Not to mention they often top marksmanship contests, even beating Green Berets.
@@GJ-qt2kk "than the army". Pretty broad statement. Higher than regular infantry, the parachute regiment or some chefs and clerks? And what is that "standard"? 5 miles of death?
Honest mistake there, probably should have seen that coming. Higher than regular infantry and if you're in 2Sqn then you'll be at the paratrooper standard with having to go through P-Coy, 2Sqn also acts as a feeder to SFSG much like the Royal Marines and Paras. The 5 Miler death thing only gets more tired and dumb the more it's said, the video was not of their final assessment and was only a part of a warmup, not to mention the instructor was a Royal Marine.
Very interesting interview. For Greeks, it is a huge honor to serve in the Presidential Guard. It is the symbolic aspect of it that is important and I like the fact that this guy is getting it, even though he is essentially British. Moreover, I was surprised of his perfect accent when he mentions names of Greek heroes of the past like Kolokotronis and Karaiskakis.

@Hammody Ahmed Kurds are not arabs...Plus there is not a common arab state. There are 20, which are constantly fighting one another..Unless you think Iranians and Saudis can coexist in the same country..
@Hammody Ahmed I am well aware of your point. I am saying it is not possible. Iraq, Lebanon and Bahrain have a Shia majority while countries like Yemen, Kuwait and Syria have large Shia minorities. What makes you think that these people want to join countries like Egypt with 99,5% Sunni majority? Also countries like Saudi Arabia,Kuwait and Bahrain are extremely rich. Why would they want to join poor countries like Yemen and Libya and share their wealth? As for the Kurds, there are 17 million of them in Turkey and 10 million in Iran. Countries that you probably don't want to join the new arab state. Will the Kurds of Iraq and Syria prefer to join a country that will oppress them as much as Turkey does nowadays or create their own state, where they are the majority and make the calls? Just food for thought.
Hammody Ahmed With all due respect, but as Billaros says, I find it impossible to believe that all these countries/states/tribes will manage to be united, simply because they cannot co-exist and MAINLY because they (americans, jews & turks) WILL NOT allow this. Can you imagine how big threat to them this would be? That's why for sooooo many years, these three, are creating wars to this area.

Via Ted Guarino As one person put it, anyone calling these Evzones Clowns, should remember the evzone battalions are probably one of the worlds best Mountain fighting battalion units. These Evzone units kicked the Italians back into Albania during WWII until Benito needed to call in his buddy the Wall paper hanger, and the Ottoman Turks back into Asia.
This was a great documentary and super cool to see the guy explaining what's behind the scenes of being an Evzone. Hating all the stupid religious and political comments here though, they have nothing to do with this video.
what the evzones are wearing is if you look at it closely, is almost medieval. Evzones are wearing hose which was common for men in Rennaisance and Medieval times, and the fustanella is just an extension of the tunic. Just have a look at the way men dressed in Tudor England or rennaisance Italy, Its almost the same. That indicates that the clothing of the Evzones has roots in Medieval Europe (Byzantium).
As much as many like to ridicule the fustanella as feminine, warriors have tended to wear tunic with possible metal armor at the knee or above the knee. Just look at the hoplite warriors of ancient Greece or Roman empire art and iconography if military persons. Trousers limits your mobility in hand to hand combat especially in mountainous rocky terrain.
It’s the only kind of facial hair allowed in the military, except for those who join the Navy. Many opt for that style because many national heroes had it.

I'm also half Greek/Brit. I've also served in the Greek military although in a different unit.
My friend, UK ruined Greece.
I am a half greek as well with family from Cyprus, I would love to serve honestly.

An excellent interview with a young man who understood exactly why he had done what he did and his pride shone through plus he explained why the Greek Soldiers march that way.
Don't let him waste his time joining the British Army get him to join the Royal Marines or the Royal Air Force Regiment
Bawdsey64 Join the RAF Reg... are you sniffing glue ?
The 5 Miler death thing only gets more tired and dumb the more it's said, the video was not of their final assessment and was only a part of a warmup, not to mention the instructor was a Royal Marine.
amazing, WELL DONE. Nothing wrong with pride. Be proud.

Black people and muslims with greek citizenship serve in the army just like the rest of us.They are just not allowed to serve in this particular unit. Although some muslims (particularly of turkish origin) are not allowed to have weapons and they serve far from the borders with Turkey.
Thanks for the precision.
@kuvikina Sure ,as soon as the turks liberate the kurds..
That's why for sooooo many years, these three, are creating wars to this area.
im from greece and this is indeed the highest honor for a greek

No, the highest honor is giving your life for your country, or giving all your wealth for your country.
As a Signal Cadet on my way to become a reserve officer, we had the honor of raising the flag on Acropolis all days apart from Sunday that was done by the Presidential Guard (Evzones). Darn straight this guy is right, there is possibly no greater honor or another experience in my life that can compare with that, serving in such posts, honoring the dead and trying to bring hope and pride for the rest of the country!

Thank you for this Evangelos. It was very eye opening, and explained a lot. I always wondered what the pompoms were for, and now that I know they were for hiding knives, I think it is simply ingenious! I can imagine a godless turk wondering, "why is this man wearing that weird funny pompom" right before he gets kicked in the face......with a knife!!! May the zeal and love for God, that your ancestors had always remain with your people, and may the Orthodox Christian Greek martyrs intercede for Greece and for the whole world!
@kuvikina lol Greece wasn't involved in that war. Greece and Turkey were both Nato members back then and even today. However, the best the "brave" Turks could do against a weak Cypriot national guard was barely take 35% of small Cyprus. Really shows the incompetence of the Turks failing to take a small island against a weak and disorganized Greek Cypriot National guard that managed to heroicly hold them off from the largest part of the island against the odds.
@kuvikina if you hate Greeks so much what are you doing in this vid spamming each and every comment? Oh riiiight, you have nothing better to do, right... I'm sorry for you, child, it seems the people who raised you taught you that you're only worthy of negative attention, that's why you crave it so much. Either way, you have my God's blessing. ☺

As one person put it, anyone calling these Evzones Clowns, should remember the evzone battalions are probably one of the worlds best Mountain fighting battalion units.

Thanks for sharing your video.. enjoy and keep safe
what the evzones are wearing is if you look at it closely, is almost medieval.
Well done Evan !!!!!
