@@JHTC I almost forgot to mention that I use Duracell and Energizer always. Both brands I have seen leak in my devices if I leave them connected and unused too long. Your video is extremely helpful thanks!
I buy my batteries from the Dollar Tree. This may have happened from the batteries being in for over 4 years. Funny they still worked. Tyvm for teaching me to do this correctly. I did remember the baking soda prior to the vinegar. Have a blessed day. Hugs 🤗 ❤
I buy Duracells from Costco and I've had them leak right in the package within 6 months of purchase. Package says good for 10 years in storage. I contacted Duracell and they wouldn't reply.
I have 2 Duracells batteries come together with my new Xbox controller and it leaked few months and corroded the controller contact plates. That why I’m here to watch this video.
Duracell batteries leak all the time even in their original packaging. Duracell sends coupons for replacements but why have to go through that? These are made in USA. Go figure.
I have a expensive electric telescope and the batteries leaked within 2 months of putting in. I thought the controller was broken so I disassembled it and broke the screen in process.
My problem was similar, my son's remote had been disguarded, when he finally found it... the batteries had corroded, I couldn't open the back, used a little wd40 , now ( he's 16) when I pick him up from school ( with all protection, for eyes skin etc) HE is going to watch your video and clean it himself, under supervision, of course. Thank you
I stopped buying Duracel years ago because of their leakage issues, I believe that like so many things today they are trading on a past reputation for quality that they no longer live up to, I had to dismantle my label maker in order to clean up the mess because of leaking Duracels and have writen a note to self on the case to "NOT LEAVE BATTERIES IN" . my favourite batteries are Varta or Energizer.
I have had problems with Duracell batteries leaking. I haven't seen this issue as much with Enegizer brand. I used to buy my batteries from Costco, they sell Duracell at the stores near me, some leaked within a month stored in a drawer.
I just cleaned a car code reader out that had this issue. But what I did was take it apart completely (just four screws) took out all electronics, and thoroughly rinsed every plastic part. Just need to carefully wipe the gunk off the PCB (or whatever it’s called) now with some alcohol. Thanks for this informative video as well.
Thanks. Well done. I needed this tip. I have a remote that I need to deal with. Also how did you get the vinegar smell off the remote? Doe the baking soda neutralize the smell?
I'm wondering if I used the vinegar sparingly in aa electronic lock that has a circuit board that I can not remove, if I were to clean it with a q-tip and then used compressed air to dry it, if the vinegar would remain caustic/corrosive? In other words, if it were to dry, would that help? If I were able to remove the battery compartment, that would be great - but unfortuntely, it's not made that way.
I chose another strategy - just bought (Chinese) 1.5V Li-Ion rechargeable batteries from Ali. 👍 They made their money back long time ago. Remote controls, DMM, not to mention how much more powerful my hair trimmer became. 💪 It seems like an "expensive" investment, until you do the math. Using my phone charger, they have a USB-C or microB plug. Even got a C size battery for my pop's Casio bell alarm clock. Haven't bought batteries in years now. All our flashlights take 18650 cells, just like the new models of hair clippers. Problem fixed - permanently. 😎✌
I will try this! I have a stereo remote the needs cleaning. I use wegmans store brand batteries. I use a necklace fan at work & I can get at least 12 hours of use out of them. I keep my batteries in a battery daddy at room temp.
Do you have to neutralize the vinegar after you clean it? I tried using vinegar on a really corroded battery pack and I mean blue corrosion was the color of the battery leak. I didn’t work gloves, unfortunately, but it did not come off. I never use baking soda and water to neutralize the vinegar, though I just use some water and a damp cloth.
The issue I've been having with my walker razor ear pro I'm a bit upset over it because I paid $65 bucks for these to use at the range, and it happened again after cleaning em out real good, and corrosion builded up again after putting fresh brand new batteries in it
great. I will add to the solution(s). If your device takes rechargeables (ask the mfg. or read the manual and never guess), you probably will never have corrosion. With flashlights, I do the following: 1. ziploc sliding lock bag; 2. flashlight with batteries not inserted; 3. batteries within a battery holder that holds each battery separately. 4. I used to include alkaline batteries win the plastic battery holder. Now that the household users understand rechargeable batteries, I store rechargeable batteries with the unit. Recently, I had to take apart a 2 meter hand held radio which took a detachable AA battery pack. Corrosion from alkaline batteries had destroyed the battery pack. Carefully, I read the manual. The unit did not take rechargeable batteries. So everything was cleaned up and this time I stored the batteries separately.
You have to be careful to avoid getting any liquid and gunk into the electronics near the terminals being cleaned. Otherwise it may lead to device malfunction due to shorts.
I buy Japan made Fujitsu batteries now, they very very rarely leak. I only saw a slight discoloring of the end of one battery in all the years I been using them but as for the brands seen here has killed countless devices of mine, I will Never touch those brands again.
Avoid all this ALKALINE mess ! , for 2 or 3 cell units , solder in a Lithium battery ( NEVER leak ) , salvaged from the HUNDREDS of disposable VAPES , found on most sidewalks , you will need to sort a little charger , fitted with mini croc clips , and charge to MAX of 4.2 Volts , NEVER connect directly to 5 Volt USB outlet , ( tried - n - tested ) , DAVE™🛑

Thanks for watching my video Ray! Your welcome.
Thanks. Well done. I needed this tip. I have a remote that I need to deal with. Also how did you get the vinegar smell off the remote? Doe the baking soda neutralize the smell?
You can just take a damp cloth (water) and wipe everything off. The smell will dissipate.
I'm wondering if I used the vinegar sparingly in aa electronic lock that has a circuit board that I can not remove, if I were to clean it with a q-tip and then used compressed air to dry it, if the vinegar would remain caustic/corrosive? You could rinse the vinegar with isopropyl alcohol, that would save your circuit board.

are there any alternatives for white vinegar?
You could just use water
We have grandkids so we buy in bulk. Usually Amazon or where they are cheapest, and keep a lot of spares
Love that!
What's the baking soda for?
To neutralize the vinegar. Thanks for the comment.
@JHTC so, does it make it less potent? I always wonder about that when I see them used for cleaning.
I was thinking , what's the sour cream for 😂
Lol, I like to reuse plastic containers.
Could i use something else if i dont have baking soda?
You can just use water.
Yes, value

How about zinc cell corrosion?
