Problem with the end of the combo Cali. Abyssalacia can only be link summoned with Fish, Sea Serpent and Aqua monsters. Trishula is a dragon. So your end board would still have Trish and Bahamut Shark on field. A different approach could’ve been to summon back Teus with Gunde. Then use that and Minstrel for Gymir. Use your remaining 3s for Levirtue Dragon, searching Virtue Stream. Then you could use Triaina to summon back Abyssgaios. Use Levirtue Dragon’s effect to transfer one material from it to Gaios and now you have a Quick Effect blanket negate. Granted you don’t have a 2nd toad, but you do have a on command banish and protection from common field wipes.

Absolutely not. We don’t need more engines like branded. Branded killed deck building for nearly every fusion or GY light/dark deck. It became a focal point for decks that you just play branded in anything. From decks like predaplants to even voiceless voice. For several years it’s felt like every fusion deck felt the same because most were playing branded in it. There have been ones that stood out on your own, but when you’re trying to make your deck better and the answer is always *insert random better deck*, it ruins deck building and having rogue decks. You’re not playing an optimal version of your deck, you’re playing an unoptimal version of a better defk
Also mermail abyssdine will miss the timing a lot because it saz "when" not "if" Poseidra rank7 is also Not a mermail so it wont synch well with that card. Others have already mentioned about trishula being a dragon. And you are absolutely right about abyss dweller its not needed to main 9/10 times we go into bahamut indeedly :]

Armored shark + XYZ Armor Fortress (and for the teus play, Torpedo) - alows you to get one more water to your hand by using a dead bahamut shark, making it useful for going second for the kill or more often to allow your discard based extenders to pick up after being handtraped/nibiru; i genuinely think they trump some of your ED and MD options. Plus, If you revive shark off poseidra effect it can bring back pike for lvl 4 extender for that second toad play anyway 2. virtue stream / levirtue dragon vs Trishula - triana can bring back abyssmegalo and levirtue can get it online with material, its passive effect means this can come up clutch vs tenpai as lvl 5 or higher cannot declare attacks and it can sit behind so many layers (toad, mermail king, virtue stream, abyssalacea, mizuchi, etc etc 3. for me and how i play this, mermail now has been upgraded to a 9 or 10 one card starter deck (teus, prince, diva, one for one), with a much more compact footprint and you even have multiple ways to search for mentioned starters so it modernizes the deck design to finally be able to play loads of non engine, be it handtraps galore, board breakers or crossout/called by for going first
If you're looking to discard 3 from your opponent's hand, mermaid abyssleed can tribute one attack facing mermail to discard 1 card to the grave from their hand. There are a lot of good ways to get him on field plus he is another level 7 body and frees a space in the extra deck.
Its rare that Konami makes decks like Mermail Atlantean and Branded and its why pure board breaker style decks are slowly dying out and now decks are mostly either a mixed board breaker and hand trap build or a pure hand trap build. A great point some people miss when considering how good a deck is is whether or not it has cards like Poseidra or Guardian Chimera that are board annihilating beasts and if they don't have one it doesn't mean that its necessarily bad but it does mean that it will have a fairly huge disadvantage against combo decks. Branded, Mermail, and Fire Kings are really amazing because they perform important functions that other decks don't. Some of which Ryzeal put on display in the OCG with cards like Bagooska, Zeus, and Exciton Knight. When your faced with a deck like pure Snake-Eyes the best to beat them is to have cards like Garunix Eternity and Poseidra to limit your reliance on having 2+ board breakers and force your way through them. It is sad though that not every deck can go 2nd and deal with boards as strongly as Mermail Atlantean, Branded, and Fire King can and if the majority ofvdecks could I think that there would be fewer complaints about combo decks.
Ah I see, I *have* been playing Mermail wrong. For some reason my Mermail deck has no water monsters and has a bunch of non engine and a generic extra deck and the rest of the deck is filled with Vanquish Soul cards. No wonder I’m doing the Mermail combos wrong.

Mimighoul can make a good amount of interruptions and Archfiend does what Moulinglacia does by using it during both turns. It can't be any lower than tier 2 because its to good to be put in the same category as Generaiders and Marincess.
Iunno man the Coelacanth build kinda seems to be where it's at right now - triple Abysspike and one of the fishborgs (launcher or harpooner) seems like a goated board

Your list actually looks very close to mine, except im on some hand traps. Not about to just constantly lose to "maxx c" for no reason lol. Oh, the card is pronounced like tlee eye nuh btw. Had to look it up myself.
imo something like lifeless leaffish (lvl 4 for more bahamut toads, and recycles) or even minairuka (again lvl 4, easier summon condition than dine, and can be used as a negate) are better extenders than dine despite not really being searchable. I do like dine though; I especially like its second effect where it can summon another card. I do a four-card loop by summoning leed off of ayssrhine, but you absolutely need extenders for that version. If you get to talents you rip 5 lol You may be able to get away with 1 gaios (me coping on not having to buy a $40 card) because triana can recycle your cards. can't wait for the new lvl7 poseidra to replace megalo and new rank 7
You could use Minairuka, Silent Angler, Fishborg Harpooner and the like, play 1 Copy, and run 3 Abyss Shark to search it out. It’s a very easy extender to summon out in this deck, and lets you search out the still good but less plussy fish you want to play.
Abyssdine is niche and for the most part… trash… Abyssocea tho? Actually a dope ass card. If you use xyz armored torpedo. You can full combo with it if you have that As for the abysspike, I think in every instance, you run 3 now. As starting with abysspike and dragoons or shadow squad is essentially full combo as well.
I’ll be honest with ya chief. Not a fan of this one. There’s just too many useless bricks. At least if you brick with HTs, you can potentially use them next turn. TTT is fine, but with Fuwalos, Imperm and Impulse being cards, this card is essentially a dead card. Minstrel at 3 is also fine, but it may be a brick when you go second. I main 1 and side 2. Since you can search for it. Megalo at 2 is wild to me tbh. Idk what situations you needed a second but Megalo is also a pretty big brick unless you’re going for game since the new Neptabyss can search for your equip spells. I’ve never played ice jade so idk much about her. 3 heavy infantry and 1 marksman is insane too since they’re crazy bricks. Heavy can be searched and marksman is only good going second BUT if you play crocodragon and have 2 heavy infantry or 1 heavy and 1 marksman? OOF 😮💨😮💨😮💨 I’d switch Trish for crocodragon. You go plus 2 giving him an extra 1K atk/def and 2-3 interrupts. I’d rather switch monster reborn with a HT or solemn judgement or something since you can monster reborn with other cards in your deck that you can easily search for (you could just play a second triana) Same with deep sea aria since you have plenty of searchers. It can be useful to bring gy down to 5 for moulinglacia, but as a 1 of unsearchable card, it ain’t worth it imo. But at the end of the day, if you like it and it works for, then pop off king 🫡
I picked up the deck for the first time today and played just 5/6 hands and I can already say that this list is terrible, imagine if a mermail master saw it
This deck list is... interesting, one thing I would highly recommend especially in a monster mash decklist like this one is playing coelacanth, it allows you to basically play through any ht. I've been testing the deck for a good few months now and I can easily say the deck needs coelacanth if you dont wanna lose to cards like droll or purulia. Btw, if you play coelacanth, 1 prince can still make 4 disruptions through 1 ht, except shifter.
I like the double megalo but your list is half baked. You can make this list alot better. Ive been going a bored breaker approach. Becuase the decks engine is so strong that it can play thou ht or w.e they try to throw at you. By the end they dont have enough gas to do anything
@@thecalieffect I'll tell you this simply, I've been playing the deck for 12 years and I can tell you exactly why your list is wrong. you have many cards at ridiculous ratios like heavy infantry or deep sea aria, not to mention that you are putting directly outdated cards like marksman, which simply has not been played for more than 10 years due to how slow it is and lack of relevance in the format, Added to that, there are many redundant cards, the mermail that you put outside of gunde, pyke and the new cards are not useful, you could add consistency cards instead of them, a monster reborn is not useful because you literally have one that is searchable, in fact, that It's another problem, you ignored all the searchable engines like armored shark and lapis dragon. I like your videos, but definitely, you should have done more research on this one, nice to meet you and my best wishes.

The deck simply has not been for good for 9 years, so you really can't say what works and what doesn't. You are free to disagree with what is presented, and I even said I was trying some things that are unorthodox, but respectfully, I dont move according to peoples feelings. Mathematically, the deck has an 87% of opening a desirable hand, which is the threshold for good yugioh decks. Cards also serve multiple purposes. Did you know that Marksman/Infantry's effect is Mandatory and you can place it as CL2 to chain block squad? Ofc you did, but did you know 3 cards out of 40 means you have a 33% chance, but 4 is 42% giving you a more effective way to dodge Ash/Impulse? Like I said, if you don't like something because of your feelings that's okay. I make those decisions sometimes too, but please, we have the same amount of tops with the new mermail cards and the new cards have the same amount of tops in the highest level of events right now. It says everything you need to know about the standard of this deck at the second.
